Everything I've read concerning the Rays and Shields is that due to his friendly contract that there's no incentive for the Rays to feel compelled to move him

Aren't his arbitration years coming up?

Wonder what it would take to get Shields and Wade Davis together?

I doubt Davis would be available. However, we really need bullpen arms and Tampa is loaded with them. Wouldn't hurt to look for a shields+bp arm

The more I think about it, the more a guy like Shields makes sense, but not at an insane return

Moreland, Grimm, E. Beltre and Luke Jackson would be an interesting package... Maybe swap out different pitchers not named Perez and Buckel, you don't throw your top pitching prospects at a guy only here for 2 years, its counterproductive

I am intrigued by the Royals listening to offers on pretty much everyone....I think it would be great for us if we could get Gordon and Hosmer in a deal. Everyone knows they need pitching so i would put Holland out there and they dont have a very good 2B so Kinsler could be an option. That deal would make great sense for both sides.

Kinsler would be too expensive for him and we'd be stupid to give him up.

Baseball Prospectus | Pebble Hunting: Trading Giancarlo Stanton

1. The total rebuild.
Rangers get Giancarlo Stanton.
Marlins get Ian Kinsler, Mike Olt, Leonys Martin and cash from Rangers; Garrett Richards and Kendrys Morales from Angels.
Angels get Alexi Ogando

Theory behind it: The Marlins get a mix of short- and long-term regulars, a top-20 prospect but also an immediate innings eater, and add enough players to the 2013 team that they rebuild some immediate credibility, and get all sorts of Cubans. They take advantage of one team’s positional glut and perhaps extension regret to add an All-Star middle infielder, the sort of player not typically available unless the Marlins are holding a fire sale.

Who says no? Actually forget the Who Says No part of this. Who Says No is dumb. These fake trades aren’t pointless just because one team is going to say no; after all, we’ve seen plenty of trades (Crawford/Beckett/Gonzalez to the Dodgers, Octavio Dotel to the Dodgers, Casey Blake to the Dodgers, lot of trades involving the Dodgers) where the Who Says No answer was so obvious before the trade even existed yet the trade still happened. No, these fake trades are pointless because they involve a bunch of names and no basis in reality; it’s like trying to guess what number between 1 and 100 a GM is thinking of, and then trying to do that five more times. Whether the trades are unbalanced barely matters.

Very doubtful the Royals move Hosmer, his value is way too low right now after a down season, and its not like they really have anyone to replace him right now

wonder what it would really take to get Stanton and Morrison?

Too much, more than likely... Stanton alone would would cost Profar and probably Perez, not sure I'm on board with that price for a guy thats already had knee issues

not sure either just got to thinking that Miami might listen on a deal for both and that it might be less than what some might think they would want.

I think you underestimate how high their demands would be

not underestimating or overestimating. after the "trade" it is difficult to tell what they might take. they want to unload Morrison and with the stink Stanton is raising they might be better off unloading him too. no one is going to get him free but it wouldn't hurt to try and see what they would be seeking

Why would we be even remotely interested in him?

don't know maybe because some think Stanton is a stud with major potential. but i don't care one way or the other, i'll wait and see what JD and Nolan have planned
