So the NCAA acknowledged Texas A&M redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel did not accept money, but they "compromised" with A&M suspending him for a half a game. That makes no sense.

I'm not buying a word that guy says. He does not pass the smell test. Manziel has uber-douche written all over him. Especially considering what his parents said to the media. They were just like Titus Young's dad - defending & making excuses for him. He's going to be one of the guys against whom I'll be rooting.

He's not a douche. He's just not politically correct, and is dumb enough to keep putting himself in bad situations. I don't see why you would be rooting against him because of this.

I don't see why you would be rooting against him because of this.

Because I'm petty & jaded when it comes to football.

He just smacks of douchery to me, and I'm going to root against him like I do Manti Teo, Cam Newton, Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews, the Welcher Aaron Rodgers (until he makes god on the Ryan Braun thing), DeSean Jackson to a lesser extent, etc.

Oh and Wes Welker for his whiney comment about Belichick.

Oh!!! And Peyton Manning for being the butthole he was passing up a chance to go 19-0 with the Niners. Loser! I hope he gets a paper cut. Like I said: petty.

If he is projected to be drafted that low by the other people that matters (32 GMS / owners), I wouldn't hesitate to draft him in the 4th or 5th and cut ties with LMJ. Odd man out would be the loser between a competition involving LMJ and Hunter.

De'Anthony Thomas - RB - Ducks

Draft insider Tony Pauline labeled Oregon junior offensive weapon De'Anthony Thomas with a sixth-round grade entering the 2013 season.

Thomas is an "explosive running back with the speed to run to daylight as a ball carrier, pass catcher or return specialist," Pauline writes. "Multi-cut run who’s incredibly elusive. Has size limitations and more of a situational runner." Thomas' former teammate Lamichael James was selected in the second-round, while Kenjon Barner lasted until the sixth-round. Thomas is a better receiver than both.

Coach Sing's protege:

Andrew Jackson - LB - Hilltoppers

Western Kentucky senior LB Andrew Jackson, likely the team's top NFL prospect, said the Hilltoppers are "going to handle" Kentucky on Saturday.

"I don't care anything about them," Jackson said. "We just gonna hit 'em in the mouth and get it over with." Western Kentucky beat the Wildcats last year in overtime, but both squads lost some talent to the NFL. Jackson projects as a two down run stuffer thanks to his ability to work between the tackles, but he'll need to show more range to improve his evaluation.

A.J. McCarron - QB - Crimson Tide

Alabama senior A.J. McCarron ranks as the No. 3 QB in the 2014 class, according to NFL.com's Bucky Brooks.

"It's rare for a quarterback with two national championship rings to fly under the radar, but that is certainly the case with McCarron," Brooks writes. The former NFL scout goes on to say McCarron has been unfairly labeled as a game manager. "Additionally, he is a masterful play-action passer who frequently fools defenders with strong run fakes before pushing the ball downfield for easy scores. With the NFL game built to fit his non-descript playing style, McCarron is more valued at the next level than many of his more decorated peers." If he were building a team, our own Josh Norris would like to have McCarron on the squad, but in a backup role. We like his ability to carry out a gameplan, however, he has downfield limitations.

Johnny Manziel - QB - Aggies

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks listed Texas A&M redshirt sophomore Johnny Manziel as the No. 2 draft-eligible QB prospect leading into the 2013 season.

Louisville junior Teddy Bridgewater checked in at No. 1. "While NFL scouts struggle projecting his game to the next level, the fact that he has torched SEC defenses, including the defending BCS national champions, has certainly helped his evaluation as a dynamic franchise quarterback candidate," Brooks writes. "If he can demonstrate growth as a pocket passer, Manziel might break the mold for what NFL evaluators covet in an elite quarterback." We obviously value a quarterback's ability to lengthen plays with their feet, but passers must be able to win in tight situations in order to succeed.

Jadaveon Clowney VS James Hurst in an hour and a half. Should be a great matchup.

Ra'Shede Hageman - DL - Golden

Gophers Minnesota senior DL Ra'Shede Hageman made five tackles, .5 for a loss, one blocked kick, and one pass breakup Thursday against UNLV.

Minnesota was in charge after the first quarter and multiple Gophers made plays in the backfield. We look forward to seeing Hageman against top competition. He''s be workout warrior during the draft process, so posting tape that backs it up will help.

Marqise Lee - WR - Trojans

USC junior WR Marqise Lee caught eight passes for 104 yards against Hawaii on Thursday.

Head coach Lane Kiffin used both Cody Kessler and Max Wittek last night with limited success. The Trojans force fed Marqise Lee last season and he'll remain the focal point of their offense. Lee is silky smooth in his routes but hopefully he isn't limited by his quarterbacks this season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins - TE - Huskies

Washington junior TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been suspended for the school's season opener against Boise State.

The one game suspension stems from Seferian-Jenkins' guilty plea to a drunk driving charge in July. He spent one day in jail. "One source said UW coach Steve Sarkisian had initially handed down a two-game suspension for Seferian-Jenkins, but the suspension was reduced after Seferian-Jenkins met some of Sarkisian’s disciplinary 'requirements.'" beat writer Adam Jude writes. The future NFL tight end has also dealt with a broken pinkie, which required surgery. The Huskies face Illinois on September 14 after the opener against Boise State.

Jadeveon Clowney - DL - Gamecocks

South Carolina junior DE Jadeveon Clowney registered three tackles and three QB hits against UNC on Thursday.

Many will question Clowney motor and stamina in the coming days, since he was obviously winded in the sweltering heat in Columbia. The stud defensive end was on and off the field after the first quarter, but admitted to an illness that emerged in the last 24 hours. Even though Clowney did not register a tackle for loss his impact was extremely evident, forcing the Tar Heels to run the majority of plays in the opposite direction. Larry Fedora seemed rattled, or at the least cautiously aware, by Clowney's presence from the opening kickoff.

Derek Carr - QB - Bulldogs

Fresno State senior QB Derek Carr completed 52 of 73 passes for 456 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in Thursday's 52-51 overtime win against Rutgers.

Carr began the game a bit sluggish, but he threw his first touchdown of the season with two seconds remaining in the first half and proceeded to assault the box score. He shattered the old Mountain West records for completions (42) and attempts (67). Carr must work on some mechanical throwing problems (he throws off-balance, for one) and his pocket awareness and poise (tends to panic and/or force throws under fire) if he is going to improve his draft stock. Carr, however, has no such poise issues off the field. The link below leads to a recent harrowing article in the New York Times about Carr's newborn son, Dallas, who was discharged after spending more than three weeks in the hospital with a digestive tract defect.

I have to address David Pollack's comments about it being "inexcusable" for Clowney to have taken some plays off.

The dude dominated the line of scrimmage. I don't care that he didn't get any sacks. No player goes 100% every play; nor should they. Not even Jerry Rice. If you go 100% every play your 100% gets lower really quickly.

Sure he's not in football shape yet. But we saw him in football shape last year. It's not like the guy's Bryant McKinnie.

The announcers today are talking about how Sammy Watkins was playing hurt a bit last season. That may explain why I saw a surprising lack of power in his play last season. Very impressive today & the game's not over.
