Speaking of Tiny Richardson, is his knee really bad enough to push him into the 3rd to 4th round? The dude is EXTREMELY talented. maybe even more talented than Cyrus Kouandjio. If they were willing to risk a 4th on a running back with as serious an injury as Lattimore's then a 3rd for an offensive tackle like Richardson seems like a no-brainer.

I can't get over how overrated Darqueze Dennard is. Both McShay & SI have him going 15th to the Steelers. McShay even has him going ahead of Gilbert.

I'm extremely glad it looks like he'll be bumping a better CB down the line closer to the Niners.

I'm curious if Dennard slipped in this draft do you see value in him at the bottom of the first, or would you prefer we go with one of the other corner options that have been slated to be there?

I would be looking much more seriously at pass rushers after Aldon's latest incident. From a legal standpoint, I don't think this should lead to too much, but just too many issues with Aldon. We can't rely on the guy, which is a problem as he's arguably the best/most important player on the team. Dee Ford gets more interesting in the first, or even Kony Ealy if he drops (mocks seem to have him plummeting). A few mocks have Anthony Barr falling as well.

I really liked the Lemonier pick last year, and I think he's got starter potential, but Brooks is getting older and we can't rely on Aldon at this point. I think we've just about got to strongly consider taking a pass rusher somewhere in the first four rounds this year.

I'd go with Verrett or Roby before Dennard easily. In fact, Dennard is 2nd-round material IMO. Mid to late 2nd round (I'm not saying he'll go in the 2nd; I'm saying he belongs in the 2nd). Id' go in another direction whether it's the aforementioned CBs or another position.

Imagine how fast your buddy's (He who shall not be named) head would explode if they took Michael Sam in the later rounds. Sam and Martin both on the team, I would tune in to the board for the pure comedic value.

I agree. I do think our need at CB out weighs our pass rushing needs, but I wouldn't be bummed if we went after a pass rusher like Ford or Early if Fuller and Verrett were both gone. I think trading back might be our best option in that scenario. We can add depth at OLB a little later if need be.

The SI Mock is far better from a 49er standpoint than McShay's

Kyle Fuller
Jordan Mathews
Paul Richardson

Super Bowl!
This is by far the best mock I have seen. I would be ecstatic. I'd really like to get more help at CB if we can.

Breeland and Purifoy might slip due to their 4.6s at the combine, could find one of the two in the 4th round.

Richardson's final game in college. A lot of yards left on the field due to drops and just bad QB play.

My only problem with it is we only end up making three picks in the top-100, down from six to begin the draft. IMO, this draft addresses our current needs very well. However, it leaves us quite vulnerable to having major needs to fill in the next few years when we're in a position to get out ahead of those needs in a very deep draft.

Demarcus Lawrence - DL - Broncos

ESPN's Bill Williamson could see the 49ers "using a premium pick" on a pass rusher in lieu of Aldon Smith's arrest.

Even with Smith's future in doubt, Williamson still believes San Francisco's top draft needs are cornerback and receiver. However, the 49ers own an NFL-best six picks in the top 100, and it appears likely that at least one of those picks will be invested in an edge rusher. ESPN draft analyst Steve Muench mentioned Boise State's Demarcus Lawrence and BYU's Kyle Van Noy as good fits in the second or third round, and pointed to Texas’ Jackson Jeffcoat, Alabama DE/OLB Adrian Hubbard and Stanford’s Trent Murphy as Rds. 3-4 options. "[Lawrence] will likely be gone and they may not want to take a player who has been suspended three times over the past two seasons but he has the length, quickness and flexibility to develop into an effective edge rusher in the NFL," said Muench. CBS Sports' Dane Brugler interestingly also fingered Lawrence when discussing the same Smith-centric topic on Twitter. Brugler added Auburn edge rusher Dee Ford as a fit for the 49ers.

Demarcus Lawrence - DL - Broncos

Boise State edge player Demarcus Lawrence will visit the 49ers next week, according to Matt Barrows.

"A league source said the travel arrangements were made a week ago, before (Aldon) Smith was arrested at LAX for allegedly telling security personnel he had a bomb," Barrows writes. Lawrence is a fringe first-round pick, and could drop to around the 50 range, but his flashes of power and movement are very good.

I like Lawrence's skills quite a bit but I don't know if he'll consistently make wise decisions in his personal life once he gets to the NFL. If it weren't for that, I'd be screaming his name. I like Ford, too.
