If there is a God out there please let someone make an offer for JVR at the deadline any offer is good. 10th rounder no prob, a signed stick you got him, a roll of tape he's yours.
ha that contract is not looking good

As I view it, possible deadline moves could include:
Simmonds - even with a down year we should get a decent return
Gudas - has actually been one of our better players and is signed for another year;
Raffl - A team that need 4th line depth and PK would find him useful;
McDonald - his contract sucks, but does he upgrade another teams 3 pairing?
Weal - 1 year left and could bring some 4th line depth;

Of the above, I would not want to see Gudas go, but he is a luxury to have on the current team. Could probably get a 3rd for him at the deadline. Raffl may get us a 4th round pick. No idea what Simmonds would bring and I am not sure why anyone would want the other 2 or any of the goalies not named Hart.

4 more years of that contract it will look even worse.
For all of my gripes with Jake's play I would put up with his contract 1000x more than JVR. Man...did anyone offer anything close to that or did we bid against ourselves again.

With the way Hexy was terrible at free agent signings over the years i wouldn't put it past him to have out bid himself. He was a third line LW in Toronto for a reason.

I mean, the bold that's kind of what we're talking about. There aren't a lot of players out there that are better than Giroux, the 5-6 guys that are, aren't going to be traded. Voracek, statistically, also one of the better players at his position over the past few years.

Maybe you make it up by getting two B+ players for your A+ player, but historically that's not how it works. You trade 'now' players for 'future' players and hope that your future return outweighs what you gave up in the now.

4th paragraph:
Gee ,Jake, Couts, JVR, Simmer - combined 20 points since December 20th
Kucherov- TB 15 points since December 20th

That's such a shock value, hit generating line. I'm sure you could hand pick a stat that looks bad for every team in the league. For example, Josi, Subban, Arvidsson, and Johanssen, probably the 4 best healthy guys for the Stanley Cup contending Preds have 13 points since 12/20. The Avs, who had one of the best starts in the NHL, have only gotten 14 points from their top 5 scorers this season since 12/20 (Rantanen, MacKinnon, Landeskog, Barrie, Soderberg). Kucherov is blazing hot, that stat means nothing. Gotta sift through the garbage.

From the same article: "This is a club capable of much more than being one point ahead of the NHL’s basement."

Missing the point. Who on that list are you going to get in return?

"Because the team around him has been a bit of a mess it’s probably easy to overlook just how good Claude Giroux still is. He was one of seven players in the NHL to top 100 points during the 2018 calendar year and is still one of the league’s elite playmakers. After a couple of down years from a points perspective he has quickly rocketed back to the top the past two seasons."

I dont need a player back as good as Gee. Id like to get two 50 point players that play an all around game and add some size at the same time. if we cant get that keep Gee and look to trade Jake or Couts or simmer or anyone else that we can get back a good return to help make this team better. I think at this point everyone should be tired of the same old first round and out or miss the playoffs team.

Lol. Find me a team that won a cup by having a bunch of 50 point scorers. I'll wait.

"The challenge for Chcuk Fletcher isn't to 'save' this season. It is to make the right mvoes to put the team in position to avoid the cycles of recent seasons without tearing up the farm system or making panicky trades to appease the add-by-subtraction folks. Has to wait out the right moves" - Bill Meltzer

Couldn't agree more.

Back to the top of a 15 man list landing in the 14 spot.

Ovechkin - 87 points
Kuznetzov - 83 points
Backstrom - 71 points
Carlson - 68 points

These guys are all stars, far exceeding 50 points? That's my whole point. Obviously having a bunch of guys capable of 65 points and higher is a good way to win a cup?

You can't win cups without stars. If you trade Giroux, your star, for 50 point guys, you don't have a star any more.

Las, you're not getting the point here man. The Blackhawks, 3 guys over 60 points, one of which was Kane who missed 20 games.
