Yeah so they were behind 7 teams overall and 3 teams for a playoff spot. That's not the same as being behind 9 teams for a playoff spot like you claimed.

At some point in July near the deadline last year, they were behind the 3 teams you see there that are behind them as of today

You posting "They are 2 games better than last year" was completely implying an agreement with this asinine idea that they should treat this deadline just like last season because their record isnt much better
Nothing I said implied any of that, why would I imply that and then do a complete 180 on it a second later? You misread what I posted, that's all.

Cool

We are so rabid, we facilitate change

We also made it so the home team gets a player in the HR derby

Positive change. Unlike Boston and NY bringing roids into the game.

The relevancy window for KC will close on September 30, and will not be re-opened in our lifetimes

Well that's just a pretty dumb argument. For one, it's not true, and through the July 18th game last year the Red Sox had played 90 games as opposed to the 95 games they've played this year. Just look at the standings through the same amount of games.

2016 Yankees: 46-46
2017 Yankees: 48-44

2016 Red Sox: 54-41
2017 Red Sox: 53-42

Ok. Sorry, I compared July 19th a year ago vs July 18th today.

And the total games play was slightly different. So the losses were slightly different.

A better response would have been "yeah, you're pretty much right" instead of "you're ever so slightly wrong"

But, it's a message board. Some folks gotta know-it-all.

A grand total of 3 games difference spread between two teams is not the difference between "a juggernaut" and "eminently beatable"

At least now where I come from.

They weren't behind those 3 teams when they made the deals last year.

LMAO

They traded one guy of value who by all estimates you read is a minimum of 3 years away, they have "pivoted their organizational strategy"

And EVERYONE that has no dog in the fight sees them as a far better team than last season

So why are they only 2 games better than last season?

You know its more than just the record that defines whether a team is better or worse....There is no way you look at that Red Sox team and have the same confidence you had last season

The Red Sox were dealing with far more competition last season within the division alone, let alone the entire AL....So them having the same or a better record last season, indicates to me pretty clearly they were better last season

9-21 i believe in one run games?

Something that was supposed to be a strength of theirs?

They rank 2nd or 3rd in baseball offensively, and were probably in the high teens last season

Tanaka was better last season, but not sure the starting staff as a whole was much better

Cant emphasize enough how much this years team has been impacted by heartbreaking brutal losses by the Bullpen.....Cashman realized correctly that if they address the BP, this could be a pretty good contender, now lets see how it pans out

They traded the #36 prospect in baseball for a couple of relievers.

Rutherford is ranked higher than Clint Frazier. A year ago, most Yankee fans were over the moon with getting Clint Frazier.

A year later they're over the moon that the did the exact opposite.

No different than Patriots fans who thought trading Logan Mankins for Tim Wright was a good thing.

I call it like I see it.

I agree that the difference between the Red Sox last year and the Red Sox this year is not close to this idea of last year being a juggernaut and then being eminently beatable. Their offense is significantly worse and their pitching is significantly better. Pretty simple. Now, last year the offense went cold in the playoffs and the pitching wasn't good enough to make up for it. So it didn't matter that they had the best offense in the league. So who knows what will happen this year in the playoffs. Red Sox are also in a better position standings-wise at this point than they were last year.

I won't speak for other Red Sox fans, but if you think I'm feeling less confident with Chris Sale and a lights out Craig Kimbrel than I was with Rick Porcello and a shaky as fuck Craig Kimbrel, you're very mistaken.

You win in the post-season with guys like 2017 Sale and Kimbrel.

I point towards the 2016 Red Sox getting swept in 3 games because they got no starting pitching in the playoffs.

Please dude, if Yankee fans were here singing the praises of Blake Rutherford, youd be telling us "He's a Single A player Yankee fans expect to be a superstar".......Now youre a big Blake Rutherford fan......I have no idea what rankings you look at that has him rated higher than Frazier, but Frazier is still a Yankee, so of course you need to minimize how good he is....If they traded Frazier last night, youd be telling us how shitty Rutherford will be, and round and round

And LOL at "a couple of relievers" as if BP strength isnt just winning World Series like almost every season now

They also scored 4, 0 and 3 runs in that series, and the offense has looked significantly worse

Pen isn't as good as it was last year. Lead the league in blown saves and as dirt mentioned they suck in 1 run games this year.
