In two years, maybe.

Key with Rutherford is power output. 2 home runs in 71 games this year. Repeats that in 2018 and value drops significantly as a corner OF.

Why wait and gamble when you can make a run this year and get these kids some October experience?
I'm not saying you wait. But you could have used Rutherford to try to get Gray, which I think is more valuable going forward and doesn't prevent you from adding some bullpen arms. Rutherford, it seems, is a high OBP guy and Beane jerks off to that. It obviously would have taken more, but it could have set them up a little better going forward.

Yeah, none of that makes sense, they correctly recognized this season that they are a legit threat to win the division and play playoff baseball, and correctly recognized last season they were not.

It really is that simple, and youre the first person ive talked to or heard, that doesnt see it that way

They dealt from a strength, the system is still loaded, Rutherford may have never manned the OF in the Bronx with or without this deal

Like I said. No matter what the Yankees do, you're going to support it.

Andrew Miller pitched the Indians to the World Series a year ago.

I would bet they tried that route, maybe Beane is asking for a lot more than are willing to give up.

They were talking Gray and Alonso with the A's, and as 500 mentioned yesterday, Rutherford as the centerpiece

I think its the A's that passed on that deal

And no matter what the Yankees do, you will poo-poo it

Last season you thought giving up Miller and Chapman was a mistake

Why? Cause you will be on the negative side of everything the Yankees do

I like this deal, because its ridiculous to suggest it isnt a good deal for both teams

Finding good value with the 4th round pick doesn't mean they won the trade.

Give me Logan Mankins vs the Broncos in the 2015 AFCCG and I refuse to believe the offensive line gets treated like a turnstile all night.

Don't get me started on that.

I like Trey Flowers as much as the next guy. But that was one of the worst moves of Belichick's career in New England.
BS it doesn't. Having Mankins on the field for the 2015 AFCCG doesn't guarantee anything. Miller was coming from the opposite side anyway. Take Flowers away from the 2016 team and there's a damn good chance you lose that Super Bowl. Plus, going into this season you would have neither anyway. So you would take Flowers away from the 2016 team, plus going forward, in order to have Mankins on the 2015 team? Stupid stupid stupid.

Can you please point me towards where I posted an opinion about either set of trades, either way?

My entire role in this conversation has been talking about the Yankees being rudderless about what they're trying to do.

Not about if they made good deals or bad deals. Simply that they made contradictory deals.

Maybe, we can only speculate. I've said for a while that I don't like giving up prospects for bullpen arms because I think they are overvalued. So while I think this makes the Yankees better and doesn't hurt their future, I think they could have possibly gotten more.

I think bullpens are the future of baseball, or at least it's trending that way.

This, Dirt, is the typical Patriots fan that I was referring to.

"Everything Bill did was awesome. Every positive hypothetical that I post is real and every negative that someone else posts is false"

Literally, this dude just said "Having Logan Mankins doesn't guarantee that the Patriots do better against the pass rush vs Denver. BUT not having Trey Flowers guarantees the Patriots don't beat the Falcons"

I could not give you a better example of a brainwashed Patriots fan if I tried for a week.

Again, it makes no sense, because last season and this season are night and day, and as Sox fan pointed out the 150 run swing in run differential is a string indicator of such

Every team in baseball with a strong system is going to use that system to its benefit depending on where the team stands....You are a Sox fan, you should know that better than anyone......If the Sox dont win a World Series this season, was the Sale deal a bad deal?

It would certainly take more than what they gave up in this deal, but I think the value difference between Gray for 2.5 seasons as opposed to Robertson and Kahnle is huge.

I think you are both really well informed fans, Soxfan is a pretty smart, objective dude

Agreed, Id prefer Gray, think the Yankees would too, but if it was gonna cost them another Rutherford type prospect, maybe thats where the deal died

I said having Mankins on the field for the 2015 AFCCG doesn't guarantee anything, as in, it doesn't guarantee they win. And I said not having Flowers in 2016 means there's a damn good chance they lose. Please point out what statement is incorrect there.

Using hyperbole in your argument just means it's a shitty one.

I'm just going to throw this out there for clarification, even though it's common knowledge.

The Yankees are rebuilding while trying to stay competitive.

It's a pretty simple concept and it should explain their motives.
