Yeah, with all due respect, youre letting your fandom get in the way of reality

The only reason the Yankees arent in first place by a few games is because of their BP, and because their record in one run games is dreadful, and they just added 2 excellent arms in the pen

And give up on the "Yankees arent contendors" dream, its almost August, and BEFORE this deal, they were one of the 2 wildcard spots in an eminently winnable division

I'm not disputing that they added two good arms.

I'm just disputing that this move makes any sense given what they did last season. The division is just as eminently winnable this year as it was last year when they dumped Beltran, Chapman and Miller.

Most Yankee fans were on board with what Cashman was doing last year. Those same fans should be upset with this move. If you were unhappy they with what they did last year, I understand why you'd be happy today.

I dont know if youre fucking with me or not

The Red Sox, Blue Jays and Orioles were juggernauts this time last season, and regardless of the standings, were far better than the Yankees, and Cashman knew it

Orioles and Blue Jays are now virtually eliminated, and the Red Sox are deeply flawed, far more than last season

There is no significant difference between the Rays/Yankees and Sox this season

Rays and Sox have better starting pitching than the Yankees

Yankees should now have the best BP, and between them and the Rays, those are the 2 best lineups in the division

Youre just not seeing things straight if you dont realize this division is totally up for grabs

He's fucking with you, it's not hard to see the logic in this deal at all.

Adding Sonny Gray is still a possibility too.

I looked at them pretty closely every time theyve played the Yankees this season

Yankees have shut them out 3 times this season, and everyone else in baseball 3 times

Dustin Pedroia has 4 Homeruns and 30 something RBI's and bats 3rd some nights

Xander Boegarts is a nice average hitter who has fallen off mostly thanks to Big Papi not batting behind him

I like Hanley, but you have to admit he is not terrifying teams as their cleanup hitter

Id take all those guys on my team, and Betts of course, but when they are making up your BEST hitters, and not just pieces in the lineup, thats pretty bad

Ya think? I was assuming the A's backed away from a similar offer for Gray/Alonso, before they turned to the White Sox

Last year the Red Sox were a juggernaut, this year they're deeply flawed?

Frankly, I don't know what in the hell you're looking at.

Last year they had no Chris Sale, David Price was a mid 4 ERA pitcher, Craig Kimbrel's ERA was 2 full runs higher than it is now and Pedroia and Erod were hurt.

Sure, David Ortiz is gone and Hanley and Porcello have predictably gone back to being the slugs that they are. Frankly, Pomeranz is giving them 85% of what Porcello did anyway.

But the Red Sox had more than enough run differential last year to sacrifice some mashing for some much needed front end starting pitching.

If you look at least season's Red Sox as a juggernaut and this one as eminently beatable, then you and I have differing opinions on the value of starting pitching.

Absolutely

Jorge Mateo, Chance Adams, and a few low-level prospects like Abreu or Guzman may get it done for Gray.

  • The A’s could be nearing a deal to send Yonder Alonso to the Yankees, as Oakland’s top scout was recently spotted checking out New York’s minor league talent. Low-A players Estevan Florial, Hoy Jun Park and Freicer Perez are all reportedly in play for the swap.

The Yankees and Red Sox respective win totals are identical today as they were one year ago.

Identical.

Both teams.

Identical.

but that is completely independent of what the Yankees were last year and what they are this year.

They are no better now than they were last year. Literally. No better.

I understand what you're saying about the rest of baseball being a bit worse. But that shouldn't matter to a GM's ultimate vision. Last year they sold. This year they added

How does that not register to you as a team that doesn't know what they're trying to do?

As i just posted, they were behind 9 teams last season for a playoff spot, they are now one of the playoff spots

There was no Sanchez/Frazier and Judge on this roster this time last season, Severino was a disappointing stiff

Last year at this time, and today, are night and day, it seems everyone around baseball realizes that

As far as the Sox:

Sale is amazing
Price has been better

However
Porcello was a CY Young pitcher last year, and a dime a dozen pitcher this season
JBJ and Betts were superhuman for most of last season, and both have dropped off from last season, JBJ big time
Boegarts has given very little in terms of run production
3rd base is a black hole
Pedroia looks every bit the declining offensive player
Benediti cant take the job from Chris F**** Young
Leon and Vasquez
Moreland

Cmon bud, you cant tell me Sale and a better Price is offsetting all of that

So long as you were unhappy when they dumped Miller and Chapman, I have no problems with being happy with this deal.

But if you were on board with selling last year and are on board with buying this year, than you're no better than the "In Bill We Trust" Patriots fans who will applaud any move Belichick ever does.

Sanchez, Judge and this version of Severino does not make them better than what they were last season?

How is that?

The Yankees are just 2 games better than they were last year at this point.

No reason to give up on the division, my statement is all about the context of the conversation, last year and this year, nothing is even similiar
