We were hearing about Derrick Henry as a freshman.

Lol thats funny because Derrick Henry considered transferring middle of his freshman year because he wasnt being used. You didnt hear about him until the OU bowl game when he had his coming out party. Just another example of an idiot on the internet not knowing what the fuck they are talking about but posting anyways.

A power runner that runs over guys in college doesn't just translate to the NFL. As mentioned, he's not a threat out of the backfield, either.

That's what people said about him coming out of highschool as well.

In high school, dominant players can rush for 350 yards and 6 TDs in a single game.

He's not going to run over people in the NFL with the same ease that he does now. That's not a knock on him, it's just the difference between college and the pros

He did in highschool. His stats were stupid crazy as I recall, that's why everyone said it back then.

While the power difference is reduced in the NFL, there are still plenty of abusive power backs in the league and they are always in use.

Marshawn Lynch is probably the only one I can think of who runs with a similar power game.

I suck at evaluating talent like this, but I won't be surprised if he does better than any RB Alabama has produced lately. He has something they didn't have - way more speed.

First RB I can remember at Alabama since Saban has been here where he doesn't get caught once he's gone. And I'm not talking about times where the defenders just blow things bad and they weren't close to begin with, he's so fast and they don't know it and it even makes them take bad angles.

Ingram, Richardson and Lacey all would get caught from behind. They would get good yards after contact and such, but they always get caught from behind by faster DBs. Lacey the least of those 3, but Ingram especially. Not Henry, dude is straight gone.

I saw an article at the start of the year that called him a scat back. I didn't think it was really accurate as it tried to claim he wasn't a power back just the worlds largest scat back, but he's got the speed to get to the edge and break one.

Best way to contain him is to not let him get up to speed, because once he's up to speed - I feel sorry for the guy who has to bring him down if he is able to catch him.

Our #2 Drake is probably another back that has that speed, but of course he doesn't have the size/power. He really is our scat back. A bit different than the normal Alabama RB.

Henry was a beast in the sugar bowl as a freshman. Thankfully you guys just stopped giving him the ball. That's the only way to stop him IMO. You need to score and score a lot. Force bama to throw not because the run game isnt working but because they are falling behind in points.

He is going to have to learn to make guys miss a little bit or nfl defenders are going to wear him down.

Watching he and Perine this year, I've thought several times about what each back would do if they played on one another's team. Perine gets a lot of play for how powerful he is, but he cut 10 pounds this summer and I'm surprised nobody talks about the speed he's picked up. He's showing a similar ability to run away from DB's once he gets out in the open. :L at the jealous whorns who say he's not particularly powerful, and now fast

Back to what I was saying, I wonder if their production would also mirror the switch if they played on each other's teams. No back is going to carry the ball 40 times a game in Riley's offense, especially not when they're sharing the backfield with Mixon. I also think Henry would be able to pick up the pass catching responsibilities if he had to, though he would have to practice at them. Perine wasn't much of a pass catcher last season either, but saw the writing on the wall and worked at it and has gotten pretty good at it. With Henry's athleticism I don't know that he'd be any different. Conversely, would be Perine be able to carry the workload Henry carries for Alabama? I think he'd have the tools, but Henry might be just a little more of a freak than Perine.

Our defense would be more able to limit his damage than we were then, but Henry is still going to get his. The trick is to get ahead, and stay ahead, and avoid having your D on the field too much, because if you start going 3 and out Henry is going to wear our front 7 down by the fourth quarter.

System rb.....vote McCafferty
PAC defenses were terrible this year gotta go with Henry over McCaffery . McCaffery will get a trip to NY and one of those cute little view asters Stanford made for him tho :dhd:

I think it should go to Baker Mayfield but with some votes already in I see it going to Henry

It's hard to tell because of the other variables. Different lines, different QB's, teams purposely fucking up their fields, etc.

I'm sure plenty of teams have good quality RB's capable of performing well in many situations. Elite RB's are probably the easiest of things to come by.

PS: Remember when everyone called me stupid for having Oklahoma in my top10 preseason and the best Big12 team while not ranking TCU or Baylor in the top10? :D

This ^^^^. McCaffrey played 9 defenses of 62nd or worse, but the bulk of those were closer to 90 to 120 range. He built his numbers on very weak defenses. The guy is no doubt good, but he faced three top 50 defenses and he became a normal back in 2 of those three games and had a decent game against the other one. Sorry, but if McCaffey played top defenses weak in and out, he would be an average back at best.

I've watched McCaffrey. He's great. He affects the game on offense and special teams. But this is a done deal. Henry will win the Heisman.
