They had an agreement and Disney broke it to demand more money. Sony said fuck you we made bank on Spider-Man (2.5 billion) without Marvel studios

Spider-Man leaving hurts the MCU story as it currently stands
I still need to see Far From Home, but Spiderman has such a full array of villains that they can use...shit, bring in the dude from Daredevil to play Kingpin and use that a little.

Nope. Daredevil is MCU. So bringing in Denofrio would go against this breakup.

Do you expect an all-star player to renew a low-paying rookie contract for his whole career?

Disney proved themselves when they revitalized Spider-Man after Sony derailed the franchise at the box office.

5% of the revenue when Disney was doing all the creative work is ridiculous.

Why would Disney originally agree to it then? And are you forgetting 100% of the revenue from MCU films that spidy was in

Disney didn't have to pull this move, they aren't hurting financially at all. They decided they wanted to blow up the deal. Sony did nothing wrong from what I can tell. Marvel fanboys don't care though

Again, go back to the player and contract analogy. A rookie player signs a low-paying contract with a team while the player is still unproven. Once the player proves his value on that initial contract, you can't expect him to keep renewing that low-paying deal for his whole career.

The original contract was a test to see if Disney could bring value to the table to revitalize Spider-Man. Disney proved they could. Having proven that, it's absurd and unfair to expect them to continue renewing such a terrible contract for them.

Disney didn't have to pull this move, they aren't hurting financially at all. They decided they wanted to blow up the deal. Sony did nothing wrong from what I can tell. Marvel fanboys don't care though

If someone is well-off, that means they should keep signing terrible deals? That's how fortunes are lost and people go from rich to poor. Would you be willing to partner up with someone, put in all the work, and get only 5% of the return?

So what heroes and villains can they use?

I'm pretty sure they'll find a way to get an agreement for the next Avengers movie.

Sony has the rights to the heroes and villains traditionally associated with Spider-Man in the comics.

minus Kingpin?

Some characters are shared between studios if they have established comics history with multiple franchises.

For example, Quicksilver was used in both the Fox X-Men movies and in Disney's MCU because Quicksilver is well-established in the comics with both the X-Men and the Avengers, so Quicksilver's rights were shared by Fox and Disney.

Kingpin is well-established in the comics as a villain of both Spider-Man and Daredevil, so his rights are shared by Sony and Disney.

The whole idea of Spider-man is undercut when you have billion dollar companies fighting over his rights.

Friendly neighborhood cash cow

Sony just wants to make Venom and Spiderman movie.... that they will fuck up again. Hell, Venom is fucking terrible. One of the worst blockbuster type movies last year.

Endgame killed the MCU as far as I'm concerned. If anyone is looking at the next MCU phase with confidence then you're seeing something that I'm not.

I don't think this is a big deal.

1. For most of Spider-Man's history he was a loner with occasional team ups or special appearances. Spider-Man and Batman have some of the richiest and most diverse casts of characters in comic history. There is easily 5 to 8 movies from existing storylines without other Marvel support.

2. Marvel's next phase is going to move away from the Avengers and we'll see them close out current Avenger storylines, focus on FF, X-Men, and other areas of the Marvel Universe. 5 to 8 years of material then and the Avengers will be re-booted and chances are something will be worked out.

I don't blame Sony as this is really their own money marker at this point and they can go way down in revenue per movie and still make way more than a 50/50 split would offer them.

Another point is that Disney still gets 100% of Spider-Man merchandise and that's a huge number as well. Sony gets zero of that cash.

People are getting bent out of shape but it's not a big deal and can work for both companies.

But MCU's influence did make them better movies though. The Andrew Garfield movies Sony did prior to MCU taking over were just not that good. I think that's what's got people the most upset. They made Spider-Man fun again. I'm not sure Sony can replicate that by themselves

Would love to see D'Onofrio take over as Lex Luthor over in the DC films. He'd be much better than Jesse Eisenberg.

Lassie would do better than Eisenberg.

Heck. Cryer is doing a better job in the Arrowverse...
