Why did the Cowboys completely give up on 2016?

Wilson choked by throwing the pass instead of throwing it away. Pre-snap reads are to survey the field but all they give you is an idea of what the defense may be doing. They don't tell you exactly what is going to happen. If he made up his mind pre-snap then shame on him. What if his recover fell? What if they shifted before the snap? What if a lineman takes one step back? The read told him it SHOULD be safe, but his job isn't over yet. You NEVER try a pass in the end zone that there is risk of an interception because it is the easiest place on the field to throw the ball away. He should have given up on the down. That decision cost him, his team and you fans another Super Bowl. The fact that the play call was idiotic doesn't really come into play. Yes, biggest choke in history. Very few choke jobs directly cost their team a Super Bowl. Many others were huge plays but because this was literally about the last play it was just huge. Doesn't mean he isn't a good QB, but you need to be objective. You sound like a Pats fan defending Brady

No, I don't. Wilson can and does make mistakes. Playing behind that O line he's made some AWFUL decisions trying to make something out of nothing.

But that slant wasn't one of them.

Look, it's not that hard, with a slant, the ball is out. It's a timing pattern. The ball is gone before the QB has time to look at anything. Trust your people to make a play. Timing. One two three, out. Boom, boom, boom.
You want him to violate the laws of time and space and NOT throw the pass when the ball is already out.

He didn't see Butler at all. Because there's no time for him to SEE Butler.

Listen to the all access stuff of him on the sidelines after the play, talking to Bevell. He had no idea who'd even picked it.

Choke? You want to put that on Carroll, I'll disagree, but I can see your point. On Bevell, same. On Lockett? Still don't agree, but I disagree less. On Kearse who whiffed on the rub? Maybe. But still harsh. But Wilson didn't 'choke' on that play. He did his job, within a 6" to 8" window. Ball wasn't perfect, but it wasn't a bad throw either.

Butler made a play.

You're judging the play AFTER the fact. Which is nice and all, but has nothing to do with whether Wilson did what he was supposed to do on that play. And he did.

Butler just made a better play. With an assist from Browner.

Maybe you're re-defining 'choke?' To be essentially meaningless? Anyone who doesn't get the desired result is a choker? Meh.

So Ezekiel will make the difference?

Dunno. His and my sidebar was about another Hawks fan posting a pic of Romo choking with the fumble in the playoffs vs Seattle. He didn't like that much and replied with a photo of Wilson throwing the INTC to Butler.

My point is that Butler made an incredible play there, Wilson didn't 'choke.'

I'll wait and see on Elliot.

Right... it's all opinion, not sure why you're getting so butt hurt over it.

Fact of the matter is... Dallas has more holes on defense than offense. When premium defensive players were available in this draft, it was a head scratcher, especially considering that Elliott (we'll see how he actually plays, but simply as a PROSPECT) is inferior to Fournette/Gurley/Peterson, etc. He just doesn't have the injury concerns 2/3 had.

In addition to taking a RB top 5 which is one of the lowest priorities in today's league since runningbacks grow on trees (and subsequently fall off them the quickest of any position) they take a LBer who while SHOULD be elite IF he recovers from a HUGE injury is out the entire year.
Who exactly were these premium defenders? Ramsey is far from a premium player. The chargers did us a favor by drafting bosa. This was a weak draft with very few elite players. I graded Ramsey as a late 1st, early 2nd rounder. Myles jack, tunsil and elliot were the elite athletes that actually produced. Ramsey is a project that seldom got turnovers.

Yes, 100% truth right there. I'm looking at their Denver type defense, on offense their eh.
Actually, I put them right up there with Denver as the two favorites right now. I actually like Wilson a lot and think he is in general totally clutch and one of the smartest QBs in the game...yet still I can assign blame when it's due on a particular play. Reminds me of the discussions I have had with certain Cowboy fans that swore up and down that in his 5 Int game (the 2nd one) that none were Romo's fault...NONE!!! People just see what they want sometimes and will argue it to the death. Worst part about discussing sports is when people can't be objective...

I'm probably going to over simplify it, but Wilson's biggest play is the dump off pass on the roll out. As soon as a D player leaves his assignment to go after Wilson he just lobs the ball to his wide open receiver. Now before Seahawk fan goes nuts I never said it's his only asset just his biggest.

Eh? They're a top-5 offense in points and yards. Top rated passer, top running game, #1 receiver had the league tie in TDs.

Just curious, what other offense to would you call eh?

What impresses me the most is when he hits those deep passes right up the midle of the field into tight coverage in big spots (GB game). Why can't Romo drop those damn balls in there??? What pisses me off when he plays us is those damn runs where he seems to get the first every friggin time!!!

I think they are decent on Offense, but I think a drop this year. I'm not a fan of Rawls really at all, not Baldwin for that matter as a #1 either. I think that changes your Offense assuming he is healthy. But, as long as you have Wilson you will be able to do enough to win with that defense.

There is more than a minor difference between Wilson and Bortles. And no, Bortles having a bunch of TD's doesn't let you overlook other flaws in his game.

I'm not a believer in Baldwin as a one either. But I don't think he'll need to be, Lockett is a much better player and a tough little shit. I think as long as he can provide a deep threat every play, the other guys will be able to produce underneath.
