COMING SOON!

The Invitation (2016)

Release Date: March 25th - April 8th... Not really sure which. IMDB has it listed on their Mar 25th releases, but when you open the page it says "in theaters Apr 8th".

Synopsis: While attending a dinner party at his former home, a man thinks his ex-wife and her new husband have sinister intentions for their guests.

As some of you already know, I'm a pretty big fan of the psychological horror genre. But honestly I hadn't heard about this movie until just now. I'll have to do some due-diligence and dive deeper into it before assessing the potential. For now all I know is the director is the same person who directed Jennifer's Body... Not exactly optimistic after learning that fun fact lol. And the writers are well known action enthusiasts (Aeon Flux, Clash of Titans, etc), so I'm not sure what to expect. Seems like a very odd combination of director & writers. The trailer looks pretty intriguing and I'll definitely watch it. I just don't think this one is worth flocking to the theaters over. And honestly it doesn't look like it has the allure so it might be hard to find a theater that is screening it.

As you can probably guess, I loved Jennifer's Body. :D:D:D:D

The Witch - 9/10

Was not expecting this quality of a horror film, at all. I knew nothing about this film before going in. I'm in Nebraska for work and bored out of my mind so I just went out to see a film and chose this over Deadpool, very glad I did.

Eggers did an amazing job with this, showcasing the inner conflict that a devout Puritan Christian would live on a daily basis, very visceral.

I can't fucking wait to see his remake of Nosferatu now.

Man, it looks really good. I don't know if we ever resolved this, but it sure looks like a companion to Cloverfield to me.
Yep... @Johnnydollaz89 brought it to this thread. Looks like a sequel to both of us. Pretty crazy how under the radar it was considering----> did you happen to see who produced it???

How could he manage to get this project finished with everything he had on his plate?? Mind boggling!

I might be going to see this on Friday. I thought the trailer looked awesome! Glad to hear that other people are enjoying it! Makes the decision to see it a lot easier!

Be forewarned, this is a very slow building horror film, that really focuses on tension. This is not a shock and awe type modern horror film that most people are used to. Which made it all better for me, as I had no idea what to expect going in.

Fuck... such a quality horror film. I may even see this again in theaters.

But Abrams apparently came out and said that it wasn't exactly a sequel to it. So i'm a bit confused.

That's why I used the word 'companion'...might be a prequel, might be happening at the same time as the other film...that's what it looks like. Definitely connected imo, tho.

Anyway, looks like it's gonna be a good one. :thumb:

Looks like the Horror market is starting to heat up a bit for 2016! Heard great things about The Witch. I am sure that it will freak my wife out considering the previews and the subject matter.

I recently watched Blood Punch based on the decent ratings and the fact that it was the first lead role the squirrely heavy metal dude from Deathgasm. Solid movie. Interesting premise and well done overall but I question whether I consider it a horror movie or not. It is more along the lines of Donnie Darko and John Dies at the End in my opinion. Not that it is without a bunch of killings though!

The premise is that some meth-cookers go up to a cabin to do a short-term, big money deal. But the guy leading this venture is a complete psycho (who also happens to be a cop!) and things disintegrate into chaos after that (again and again!).

Positives:
*Interesting storyline that is pulled off reasonably well.
*More than a few gallons of blood and some decent mutilation! FXs in general are pretty well done.
*Not a big budget, but production values are good considering. The camera work, cutting and transitions (which is very important here in the storyline), etc. were all solid.
*I really enjoyed the soundtrack. Not a song track, but movie music. The fact that it stood out to me at all is a plus.
*Ending was cool!

Negatives:
*Acting was hit and miss. A bit wooden at times (although admitably intentionally for some). Some were good, others not so much but that is to be expected in a low budget like this I guess.
*Characters: Overall the development of the mains was a bit weak but when you are trying to make math-heads into likeable characters it is always going to be a bit of a stretch. The main buyer character and his crew partying in an old warehouse in the middle of nowhere were a pretty stupid bunch also.
*Not really a horror movie. The main plot point was definately something that could easily fall into the horror genre, and they did well with it when they addressed the backstory directly but they didn't really dig into it like they could have. Also, it was never, ever scary to me at all.

Decent movie. I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Interesting... THen I would definitely agree with Chef on the companion. Like a "side"-quel, if thats a thing lol.

Nevertheless! Can't wait to see it, and lookin forward to hearing what you guys think of it.

Long overdue... But I've been hearing more & more about it so I think its time to start hashing the discussion

JEEPERS CREEPERS 3

View attachment 92723

The official timetable has been set for its release in 2017 per Fangoria. Supposedly Victor Salva is directing it & Francis Ford Coppola is producing it. I know that is a long ways away, but you have no idea how much I've been anticipating this. Been keeping my ear to the interweb-ground waiting for a pulse. Last September we finally got one ever since Salva's comments back in '12 or '13 when he said it was "in the works". I'm sure some of you have read the articles from back in September about Jeepers Creepers 3 being "officially" on its way to being made. Many articles stating that production would begin in early 2016. Well, it's early 2016, and there hasn't been any new details about the movie and no updates about what they are up to as far as production goes. The details we do have are extremely vague at best. The plot is always changing, and out of all the several different storylines we've been given, they've never been anything more than a vague outline at best. And if we are to believe the most recent update to the story that was also released in the fore mentioned article in September, then it's the vaguest of them all. There's no cast attached to it. It's getting to the point where it's like the boy who cried wolf. There have been so many rumors and bogus start dates that until I am actually sitting in the movie theatre watching the damn thing, I don't think I'm ever going to believe anything I hear about it. I've been waiting for this movie for so long!!! I think the main problem has been the the controversy that surrounded Victor Salva being a pedo & serving time for it. They wanted to make the movie sooner but a big backlash started surrounding the movie years ago & the money was pulled out of it. I think it took this long just to regain the support & backing for the money. There's still a lot of people who are unhappy that Victor is returning to direct. But it doesn't make any sense when you consider he was already through the controversy prior to releasing the first 2 films? So why all the sudden did his past come back to bite him in the ass? Not saying he didn't deserve it, but that's a discussion for the PF so lets not get into that lol.

Whatever the case is... the fans are in need of substance. And its long overdue.

Excellent News ...I just hope they do it right.

Man, I can't believe it's been 23 years already.

23!!? You mean 13ish? haha

First movie came out in 2001, and the 2nd in 2003.

But I agree. This long of a wait on a cult classic type movie is going to need a good showing. There are a lot of fans out there anxiously awaiting this movie so it better not disappoint!
