Cam Newton: I'm an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven't

On the other hand, Karma is kind of ruthless.

Karma owes Peyton an upside, and owes Cam Newton a major humbling.

I love Richard Sherman. He's got a great story. We will be seeing him long after his playing career is over, possibly in broadcasting or in some other hi-profile business. He's this generation's Deion Sanders.

Who didn't love Deion?

Sherman, a Stanford graduate, is much more intelligent than Deion.

You don't get into Stanford being a semi-literate SEC type athlete.
You don't graduate stanford unless you have solid intellectual skills.

I believe players are still fined for throwing the balls into the stands but not if they hand the ball to someone.

What if they're throwing it to someone in the stands?

While we're at it, let's take all the fuckers that live in L.A. and N.Y. who wear that shit like an arm badge and have to remind you of their place of residence every opportunity they get...and put them on a boat too.

Hey, I'm from New York CITY, and I don't like your attitude!

Good stuff, but you have lots of people saying that the very act of celebrating anything in sports constitutes "showing up the other team," or "taking away from their teammates' accomplishments."

The league even invented a penalty for it.

I'm fine with that take. As long as you're consistent. Is a spike considered showing up the other team?

People used to criticize Muhammad Ali for this (arrogance, flamboyance) back in the day.

Then Ali became a Muslim and a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War.

This added to the criticism.

IMO, being cocky in an individual sport is very different.

Sanders went to an ACC school, but otherwise, yeah.

Player celebrate all the time. Eric fucking decker celebrates every time he scores. Stop the bullshit and acting like Cam is the first person in NFL history to celebrate when he scores
Oh yeah, you're right a player (QB) can celebrate any time he want to, but there will be some big DE or LB that will put a good "clean" hit on him. It's coming!!

I honestly don't care about the cockiness. That will stop when he is stopped. They start losing again, and he will be sulking, alone on the sideline with a towel over his head, throwing his teammates under the bus in pressers.

Dunno. I didn't make the rules. Heck I don't even know if it is true. Just something I was told by someone who may or may not have known what they were talking about.

Want him to stop celebrating? How about you stop his ass and don't get fucking destroyed by his offense.[/QUOTE.
Good point and some team or player will eventually ally "stop his ass".

As someone else said this morning, Cam was asked 3X to expound on why he is perceived by some in a certain way. He did not have an agenda as he went to the podium. They asked him a direct question in several different ways. If you don't want the dead honest answer, stop baiting him and asking him the same question in different ways

Maybe some of us are not there yet, but Idt most NFL fans really care what color Cam is...madison ave doesn't seem to care what color Cam is.

The critics are clearly in the minority, but anything regarding race has a much louder voice. Okay, he celebrates like a WR diva...as a QB, that doesn't sit well with old school NFL fans. We've never really seen another QB respond the same way...black or white...so there's no measuring stick here...I think you can not like the dancing, etc.

I dunno...some people have an arbitrary definition based on whether it's their guy that does it, or some other guy who is pounding their team. Spikes have been around longer, so they're kinda grandfathered in I guess.

Certainly rubbing your ass on the goalpost or pretending to take a shit seems to be universally reviled
