Lets say Manning performs very well and leads Denver to SB. Whether they win or not. Lets assume Manning doesn`t retire and wants to play at least one more year but Brock decides he wants to leave and have opportunity to start regardless of Denver offer. If this scenario comes to be, does Denver have to consider drafting a qb in rd one so they can start the grooming process? I realize they would also need to find a FA vet to back up Manning and not sure how they feel about Siemian either. I don`t know about you guys but things can get real dicey if they keep Manning. Your thoughts Gents ( and Lady )

I just don't see them keeping Manning. Even if he decides he wants to play longer, I think the Broncos move on from him. He just can't make it through a season healthy anymore, and his salary is way too high to justify.

If Brock is determined to test free agency, that's where things could get dicey. I foresee Denver using the franchise tag on Von Miller, and that leaves Brock the freedom to see what kind of offer he could get. If a qb needy team like, say, Houston decides he's the guy, I could potentially see a scenario where they offer him more money than the Broncos are willing to go and he's gone.

If that's the case, I would expect Denver to look to the draft. They should have a lot of draft picks this season with all of their compensatory picks they're expected to get, so they should have the means to move up if they're so inclined. I don't follow college football enough to know who that might be or where they might go, so I'll leave that speculation up to other's more knowledgeable than myself.

Well, I hope it does not come to that. This QB class has not blown me away. Maybe a Cardale Jones but he needs to sit for a year or two before he is NFL ready. (good Big Ben replacement IMO)

The more I watch Cardale Jones the less I want of him unless it was at a good value stand point he has a lot of work and I don't think he is the brightest to fully develop all of his talent.

I sometimes wonder if Braxton Miller could be a good 5th rd flyer for us as a slot guy/return man too speaking of ex OSU QB's.

If this scenario happened here is what I would do...

We would end up drafting somebody early. Maybe Lynch falls to us as teams see he is not ready for the NFL day 1. Other options are Carson Wentz who needs a year for sure, Cardale Jones, and Christian Hackenberg. You look to figure out which one has the highest ceiling and take them.

Then you also hit FA where Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins, and my personal favorite Ryan Fitzpatrick. Any of those 3 could probably hold down the fort for a year. Probably won't be a great year by any means but with our defense you only need somebody to play average for us to stand a chance of making the playoffs.

To me with this scenario probably good chance we don't win the Super Bowl and we are really taking a huge chance on a rookie hoping they develop. This is why Brock definitely has to be a huge priority. He at least knows the system and players and I think he could do a pretty good job and if all else is good enough to be the guy that you lean on until you can develop somebody else.

I honestly wouldn't be completely opposed to this. I do think Kubiak could do well with RGIII. He has shown he can work with QB's of all kinds of ability and still get great results out of them.

All the above posts earned a "like" except for the RG3 part :). Yeah I agree Denver is in a pretty tricky spot and I`am in agreement that you just cannot afford to let Oz get away. The best scenario that prob has 0 probability of happening would be Manning takes another pay cut and back up roll behind Brock. I just don`t see Brock being comfortable with Manning in his rear view mirror regardless of Denvers offer though. In a perfect world??? Yes I would take that. I also agree that theres no qb`s in draft that "stands out" to me either. Of course that means diddly squat and has forever. The top 3 Qbs could end up busts and 2 or 3 guys drafted 2-7 end up being stars or above avg, which is almost as hard to come by. But I just don`t feel very confident in this class. Hope we don`t have to get desperate come April or May when I believe the draft is now. Maybe Simian turns into the next Drew Brees too!!!! :)

Why Kubaik liked him is his NFL throws in the wind .. Said he loved him because of bad weather ..

We are keep Oz I am sure .. Is there not a anther tag that we can put on him or is that tag gone now ?

Each team only has one tag they can put on one player. For the Broncos good chance that they use that on Von Miller unless they can get him signed before the date where you have to tag a player. Also tagging Osweiler would be very expensive. We are talking $19 million just to tag him for one year. Good chance we could get him to sign a contract where he gets paid that over a 2-year period not just one season then have to sign him long-term after that.

Prior to Chip Kelly landing in SF, I would have said that we make a play for Kap , but with Kelly there, I don't think Kap is going anywhere

I know the question was "if this scenario comes to be", but in thinking about it, I don't see any way it happens ...

Let's start out by listing the teams who might have interest in Oz:

- Houston
- Cleveland
- Chicago ( depending on Cutler ... plus, the Fox connection )
- Washington ( I think they resign Cousins )
- Buffalo
- Philly

I think the Skins resign Cousins ...

Philly has a new coaching staff coming in, with Pederson being a head-scratching choice - I doubt it ...

Cleveland ?? .. it would shock me if Oz tested FA to sign with that mess

A reunion with Fox ?? .. I think Cutler stays, even though Gase is gone

That leaves Buffalo and Houston, with Houston being the obvious choice ...

Now let's try to figure out why Oz would decide to go with the Texans over the Broncos

- Starter right off the bat
- More money

I see no way Manning comes back next year with the Broncos, unless Oz shocks everyone and goes elsewhere on his own ... but in this scenario, Manning is Plan B, because if we can get something done with Oz, NO WAY Manning returns a Bronco .. not as a backup, not in any way ......

That would leave money for the team - a Super Bowl caliber team

So the only way I see Oz going with the Texans is a huge contract that Elway wouldn't match - and I don't think that happens

I think there is a Master Plan in place here, and has been since drafting Oz .... Elway knew that at some point, Kubiak was destine to return to Denver, and Oz was a fantastic fit .. Oz won the confidence of the team this season, and to my eyes, proved that he could not only QB the team and run the offense, but be a leader ..

Oz stays

Agree with Spirit on this one. Elway has already said that Oz is one of the top priorities to resign. I'm sure before this benching happened that Kubiak and Elway both talked to him about wanting him to be the QB of the future. No team knows more about him than us right now. So I just can't see the Broncos letting him walk especially knowing what is out there available which is not much unless something happens between Cousins and the Redskins.

I don't think there's anything Manning can do this postseason to get the Broncos to pick him over Oz next season.
In the event Oz either doesn't want to stay or gets a far more lucrative offer elsewhere then that's where things get tricky. This is the scenario I've been worried about for years. You spend this 2nd round pick to draft a backup and groom him up for the starting job and he becomes a free agent when he's ready to do so and suddenly very attractive to other teams. And in a year where the team also has to re-sign its star pass rusher as well as other key contributors.

I honestly wouldn't be opposed to rolling the dice on an RGIII in the short term while looking at the draft for longer term options. With a dominant defense he might be enough to win some games and compete. His mobility would certainly help get the running game going and give them some options there. If we're talking head cases I'd be intrigued by Johnny Manziel too. I know this crazy talk, but if nothing else how entertaining would it be to get both of these guys and let them compete for the starting spot? It'd never happen and you might lose your locker room forever, but you can't tell me you wouldn't be interested in watching it play out.

I think Elway is going to do his damndest to make sure he gets Oz back. He'll look foolish if the QB the team has been grooming for years just walks out on them.

That's what I am talking about. Ive been sorta thinking that since mid season. Osweiler didn't do anything to make us think he can't start but he didn't do enough to say the job is his either. RG3 on a one year deal to compete. I know a lot of people will be upset like the Arian Foster deal... But low risk if the right deal is signed. Part of me thinks though that a team like the Rams will give him a nicer deal takign a chance on him...

Imagine RG3 going to the Rams after the trade the Rams and Redskins made on draft day. That would be funny.

My first choice would be to keep Oz. I read somewhere he would be looking for a 3 year deal around 36 mil. If he goes elsewhere, I believe RGIII could be sucessful in a Kubiak offense. He has all the tangibles and most importantly he has been humbled beyond belief. He is not my first choice, but he might be the best option

RGIII might actually be the prototype for the type of qb Kubiak is looking for. He's a true threat with his legs and he's got a cannon for an arm. Where his heads at is the question

Honestly with how the Cap has gone up that is a really good deal if we can get him signed for that. That would make him the 21st highest paid QB. Good chance that both Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins, and maybe even Ryan Fitzpatrick sign contracts worth more than that so signing Osweiler to a $12 million per year deal where he would be about the 23rd highest paid QB really is paying him more for where he is right now than what usually happens of a player getting overpaid by somebody for what they think he could be worth.

Sam Bradford... I read somewhere he was seeking 25 million.

That guy is as average of a QB as I have ever seen. Not to mention shoulder issues and a torn ACL. Never liked him that much coming out of the draft and still don't.

He is a worthy starting NFL QB with how down the starting QB play is in today's NFL game, but he will never be worthy of a #1 overall pick.

I agree and is why getting Osweiler at a 3-year $36 million contract to me is a huge steal with how much QB's are getting these days. Even an average QB in today's NFL is making something like $15-19 million. So we could be paying below average money for a above average to possibly good QB.
