I agree with this because I know Burfict is a fairly dirty player.

If he was really going out to get a late hit in, he would have done it and it would have been bad. The way he ducked his head, pulled in his arm and only led with the shoulder make me think he was just trying ot make a play, and poor timing led to hitting Brown's head.

On another not, fuck Jim Nantz for going off on Burfict, saying he's out there headhunting when the dude led with his shoulder on a guy running across the middle, but Shazier can launch with the crown of his helmet and knock a player out and its 'an unfortunate, but legal tackle'

This is 100% accurate. Media is just lazy. It's easy to jump on the Burfict is a menace band wagon, instead of actually review the hit and making an opinion based on that one act.

Hitting a player in the helmet isn't necessarily a penalty. It's unfortunate, but sometimes it happens. It was a weak attempt at a hit by Burfict that unfortunately landed at the worst possible spot

When a player hits another late and hits him in the head it's almost always going to draw a flag....unless Green Bay did it.

It wasn't called for being late. The meme is he is a head hunter and it was an illegal hit. That is what the flag was for

Could have been flagged for either and it would have been the correct call. Pretty plain and simple, easy flag to throw. His intent is all that I question but at the end of the day like others before him he's earned a reputation that will fuck him up at times unfairly. Last night wasn't one of those times. He desered that flag.

Marvin Lewis is a terrible HC....he gets exactly what he deserves - live by the thug, die by the thug.

Guys like Adam Jones and Vontaze Burfict are very reflective of the current culture. Just a couple of hip hop gang men that should never see an NFL field. They don't have any place in our society, (better off in prison or found face down in a ditch) and it is only fitting that those two turds are the reason why Cincy is out.

Tomlin isn't too far behind Lewis either.....there is no reason why Joey Porter should be on the field popping off like he always did as a player. Simply a lack of control.

The Bengals deserve everything they get. This is just...Total...Complete...Embarrassment. The same can be said for Mike Tomlin, but he's had playoff success so he will keep his job.

Trying to take my bias away here Jake.

1st thing...I agree, it was not a pretty game and I think most Bengal and Steeler fans that know the history and the boiling point temperature of both teams was reached in the 2nd game of the year. Because of that, the refs said they were going to call it tight and not let the game get away from them....that = a lot of flags.

But...that said...imo the Steelers tried to play a clean hard fought game...Foster's 15 yarder was literally for nothing. I would question Tomlin as to why Porter was on the field during the game, but I think you're blindly lumping both HCs into the same place.

The long PI calls ramped up the penalty yardage, but for the most part the Steelers retaliated to Bengal action with some pushing and shoving, of course smack talk that you have in every DIV game.

PIT had no out of control players that I saw...Refs called a tight game...as they should have with two heated teams...the out of control activity I saw came from CIN...the stands and on the field.

What I find ironic is the fact that the (2) players that basically lost the game for the Bengals are the same (2) players that most of the league didn't want anything to do with because of their inability to keep their heads in the game... That falls onto the Bengals management and no one should be surprised about what Burfic and PacMan did at the end of the game... It's the main reason they didn't get employed by another other teams... Burfict was a stud in college but wasn't even drafted because of the fact that he's a head case on the field...

Is anyone really that surprised by what these two players did at the end of the game?

Sir...it was a penalty in today's NFL...doesn't matter if you lead with the helmet or shoulder...contact above the shoulders to what is deemed a defenseless WR is a penalty....he went for the knockout blow, and he got it.

The league office sure felt like it was intentional, 100 large was the feeling.

It looked to me like he knew what he was doing. 1 he was facing away from the play which is odd, and 2 he was watching the play on the big screen and somehow knew exactly when to jump out of the way, while his back was turned.

Every player who has ever played for Tomlin has said every single thing he does is calculated. For him to be standing right on the side line was no accident, it was clearly calculated. And the worst part is it worked. For a Steeler fan to claim this wasn't on purpose is embarrassing and another reason why so many neutral fans are sick and tired of Steeler Fan.

does not the real blame fall on Brown and Bengals ownership? Somewhere, I remember for years that they were the organisation that spent the least amount of money on player development, almost zero scouting, cheapest salaries, etc.

Going the cheap route and drafting/signing players that you can get on the cheap, because no one else wants them? Well, two of those players lost you your chance at a playoff win last night.

Can't coach stupid.

If Belichick somehow had players like Jones and Burfict, they wouldn't be on the team for long. Lewis doesn't have that kind of power, he has to play with the hand he's dealt. Look no further than the Browns (Mike & Pete).

my point exactly. He's forced by ownership to play these guys.

PacMan has a history, but that was all almost 10 years ago. He's kept his nose clean for a long time now, and has been playing at a Pro Bowl level. Shoving a coach who had no business getting in his face to begin with, especially after a coach on that same team had already taken a cheap shot at another one of our players isn't a big deal to me.

Burfict is completely out of control.

Porter had no business on the field, I agree, but as a player you just don't do that...I could understand it better if it were a Steeler player, but going at it with anyone not in a player uniform is over the line.

Nah...don't give Lewis that out...he doesn't pick players, most HC have control over who plays. The Bengals have been a haven for the salty types for a long time under Lewis...the unofficial home for wayward NFL players.

To his credit...Jones has pretty much been a model citizen off the field as a Bengal...now a solid, pro bowl caliber player, and Burfict is probably top 2 or 3 MLB in the game so that's why they play.

Winning is the MOST important thing: Not your selfish, personal macho standing in your screwed up head.

When it's all about 'you' the team gets put in a secondary position, and the championship cannot be won.

IMO...what happened last night is on Lewis and the player's themselves.

Yes, the Bengals have brought in several players with a "past", but they are not the only team to do that...heck NE does it, but they're not losing games to player stupidity.

Lewis should've have sat Burfict down before the game and said, hey we need you out there, but if you can't maintain control I'm going to pull you. Maybe he did talk to him before the game, but there were clearly times when he should have been pulled from the game.

What the Bengals lack under Lewis is a winner's mentality...winners don't often beat themselves and that's what happened last night.

I'm not necessarily sticking up for Lewis here, just pointing out that the organisation has a long history of poor leadership.
