The current level of the offense is pretty bad - considering - Vasquez - Mathis, Sanders and DT are pro bowl quality players on offense. Oz can QB sneak to a lot of 1st downs - he can roll out and run - keeping the defense very honest and he can whip that ball around the field.

Oz - also will have cold spells as a passer - and make rookie mistakes.

Oz should absolutely give you guys a much better chance to win simply because he will not turn the ball over as much as an aging, hurt Peyton Manning. With a great defense, the number one rule for the QB is to avoid turnovers. I love Manning, but this change was long overdue. Good luck to you guys!

I get what your saying Steeler but the "largest" problem is even with a somewhat or completely healthy Manning, because of his diminished arm strength etc, defenses know exactly how to defend him now. Because he needs to be able to step up in pocket to get any velocity thus accuracy on his throws they are blitzing and clogging up the middle and playing tight coverage on the quick intermediate routes of the wrs. They have no fear of Manning rolling right ( left isn`t even an option) and being accurate with his throws. A Manning run offense is basically a defensive coaches dream to game plan for. At least with Oz, their is the threat to run, move left or right and keep D`s at least "wary" anyway. I could actually see the run game improve also with Oz at the helm. It doesn`t matter if Manning can read D`s better than anyody else if he can`t make the throws unless he has a perfect pocket and able to step up in his throws. Well sorry to say,in the NFL you have to be able to make the throws on your back foot, flat footed, on the run,etc in this league. He`s been great, he`s battled serious injuries and he`s 39 friggin yrs old. Oz is Denvers best shot to at least win div anyway.

I have seen the Broncos play 3 games this season at the most...I see the deteriorating skills...you guys see every game and appear unified that Oz is the best QB for team moving forward...I still don't know if that truly is the best, but I'm raising the white flag on this one...hopefully Oz does well.

Well Manning has actually thrown the most in the league. We also have the most returned for touchdowns in the league. So the Broncos average has the biggest difference in the league right now in actual numbers. If you take away the defensive touchdowns/safety/special teams touchdown the Broncos actual number on offense is that of 18.7 points per game. That would put them at 27th in the league. Now obviously other teams have had some similar things happen but the point differential wouldn't be as big. Now on defense the Broncos have had 3 pick 6's returned on them. So the actual number for our defense is giving up 16.3 points per game. Now have to remember a lot of our games this year have gone like this last one where teams have taken advantage of points off turnovers since we have had so many. This past game alone 20 of the 29 points for the Chiefs came off of turnovers.

CD...I ended up hitting rush when this came over yesterday...after reading thru other responses from Bronco fans...right or wrong...it seems like it's time to turnover the reins.

Yeah I think we have finally reached that point that we can stop waiting for Manning to turn things around. This off season the Broncos asked him to take a $10 million cap hit and for a long time many thought that was very disrespectful of Elway to do that to a HOF player but honestly I think it was Elway realizing just how much the skills of Manning had diminished.

Really at this point the Broncos are in a win/win situation. They win because they actually do get an extended look at Osweiler and will have some actual game film to go off of to decide whether to resign him or not. Let's say he goes out and plays really well in Kubiak's system then the Broncos not only finally have some productive play from the QB position this year but also have the QB position possibly filled for the next say 10-15 years (he is only 24 years old). On the other side of it say he fails well then the team knows they probably need to look elsewhere for next year plus then can reinsert Manning to the starting line up and say injury is why he was out so it wouldn't cause huge division in the locker room.

Honestly none of us have a clue how this is going to go. Could the Broncos have the next great QB that sat behind a great starter and learned like that of Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Rivers, Eli Manning (sat the first 11 games of his career), Romo, and Palmer. Or will he be like Kaepernick with a lot of hype but fall flat on his face. Again the biggest thing is the Broncos know what they have in Manning. In the last 16 games Manning has played in he has only had 3 games with a QB rating above 100. Compared to the 16 games before that he had 10 of the 16 games with a QB Rating above 100. As hard as it is to admit because I have been such a big Manning fan and have loved what he has done for our franchise in his time here he just is not the same guy anymore. Yes he can have a decent game every once in a while but when there are more bad than good games it is time for the switch and give the young guy a chance to show what he has.

CD, I seriously doubt Manning will be back for 2016. I expect him to either retire (probably after a long talk from Elway), or be released by Denver. I could be wrong, but I really don't see Manning returning. The way I see it, Osweiler becomes the starter in 2016, or we go fishing again in FA and the draft.

I meant more for this season of the Manning coming back thought process. With injury it allows the Broncos say in a few weeks if Osweiler just plays terribly to reinsert Manning without losing the Locker room. IF this wasn't because of injury then the coaches would lose the team completely going back and forth between the two. I agree though that Manning is gone after this year. He just doesn't have another season left in him.

Just was randomly thinking today. Has a team ever started off as well as we have with worse QB play? I mean, for the most part, if your QB plays like crap you're going to be a bottom feeding team. While Manning has had a couple decent games, he's had several really, really bad ones. No one would argue that we've won despite Manning's play, and like most of you guys, I'm ready to give Oz the nod and see what he can. Can you imagine if he goes into Soldier field, against his old coach and old OC and puts it on them?

At the end of the day we still have a 3 game lead in the division, so whatever happens over the next couple weeks won't determine our season.

Well let's just look at the QB's around him in QB rating and I think we can see just how much our defense has carried this team. The only QB rated below him is Ryan Mallett who is no longer in the league. Right above him is Andrew Luck who has a losing record for the year in his starts. Nick Foles is then above him and just got benched for bad play. Above him is Colin Kaepernick who also got benched. Teddy Bridgewater is the first QB that shows up at 23rd in the league on a team with a winning record. So of the bottom 9 QB's in the league they all have a losing record other than Manning. Most of them have been benched and if not are because they are in their 1st or 2nd year of the season.

So again let's just say that Osweiler plays average (around 16th in the league) That would be a 30 QB Rating points higher level of play. Heck even 20th best in the league would be a huge boost for this team. We don't need Osweiler to play like a top-10 QB for us to win. We just need him to protect the football and take advantage of a few plays throughout the game. I'm honestly more excited to see what the run game might look like with Osweiler in now.

If Brock plays horribly as well, then that could pretty much end the season barring a miracle comeback by Manning. We might squeak into the playoffs, but probably that's it.

SO, this week could be a REAL turning point (as opposed to the GB game), for Denver's season. I have high hopes that Osweiler can be up for the challenge and lead this team into the playoffs.

Haha yeah I was planning on it. What is funny is I am winning my other two leagues I am in. For some reason this one is always my worst one every year. Partly I do sometimes forget about it since my others are all Yahoo ones so I forget about signing into ESPN to update my roster.

Yeah I saw a few times you preferred playing "BYE" over "Active" :). My bro got me in a pay league and I`am currently fighting for 2nd place @ 5-5. I started out 0-3 so making some headway. The other two...Family FF I`am hanging in a 5-4-1 and in the other, 1 game out of 1st with 6-4 record. To really help out I pkd up Edelman in trade 2wks ago. Great right? Good job in your others Bro. Stay Strong My Man!!:)

Just looked at my team and made some pick ups. See if I can at least look like I am trying. Always good to be doing good in the money leagues. I am doing decent in my money leagues. One of them I have won some decent money already because there is a weekly winner who has the most points.

Good post.

Elway played the position...he knows Manning was at the end last year...this (drop off) is almost RB like...as in off a cliff.

Os...it's now or never really to get significant snaps. He's played behind the one of the best to ever do it, so you'd hope he was sponging off Manning the last few years.

It all depends which local media people you listen to on Osweiler of whether he is the future. The Denver Post has a couple of writers that have been really negative towards Osweiler and saying Elway and the coaches just don't believe in him at all. Most everybody else though has been saying that Osweiler has been getting very positive reviews around the team. They all have commented that Osweiler is usually the last player to leave most days after practice/game film/meetings. He likes to stay after and get those extra reps that Manning usually takes during practices. Honestly I have no clue what to expect this Sunday. It could be incredible and the team finally has some fire back in them or it could be a complete disaster. I expect probably something a little closer to the middle of those 2 scenarios but honestly it just can't be any worse than what we saw this past Sunday. That was probably the worst QB play I have ever seen in my life and we endured the Tebow years around here.

I have no clue either...as we've seen via Landry Jones this yr...it's one thing to come in and back up mid game...it's another to prepare as the starter. The good thing working in Os favor is CHI really doesn't have much tape to go off, so they probably looked at HOU film with Shaub/Kub or in BAL.

No realizing just how bad it was, but I talked to my cousin out in Brighton, and he echoed what you guys are all saying...multiple picks 6s, every game at least 2 picks lately, more throws short...yes, you have to think Os can protect the ball a little better.

He's kinda lukewarm on Os...says the tools are there, but can he do it under game pressure?

I would think the Broncos FO is going to take a QB in this draft regardless. If he plays great...the urgency won't be as high.

I feel bad for being so rough on Manning, he was a good Bronco. Now back to Os, I'm not sure. He couldn't be worse. The thing that gives me pause about Os though is we went after Tyrod Taylor hard in the offseason. Offered pretty good money for him considering his resume. I wish we would've gotten him. He looks like a keeper. Imagine his athleticism and he's got a strong arm, throwing to our guys? He looks poised and he's tough. Buffalo got a good one there

I would actually guess that if Osweiler plays really well to close out the rest of the year the team will more go after a veteran to back him up and compete with Trevor Siemen. From what I understand the coaches actually really like the guy they drafted this past year which is why they kept 3 QB's. So it would make more sense to just bring in a veteran to compete if they know Osweiler is their man moving forward. Obviously if he struggles then who knows what they do. There is wide speculation of what Elway would do. Some think he could go after Kaepernick as he again is that athletic big arm QB that maybe is just needing a new start. There has been talk of RGIII as he did thrive in the Kubiak system his first year in Washington. There is talk that Drew Brees could be traded/cut this off season so I could see Elway making a move to bring him in as he does have enough athleticism to run Kubiak's system pretty well. Heck there is speculation that Elway will go big to try and get Andrew Luck with how much he has struggled this year and have that huge Stanford QB connection. Then of course you have the draft with Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff, Conner Cook, and Hackenberg all being mentioned for those 1st 2 rounds of the draft.

Honestly with everything that has happened this week my head is spinning about the future of this team. The right decision sets the team up for the next 10-15 years possibly. The wrong decision could easily derail a very promising roster. Hopefully Osweiler just makes things very easy and goes out and blows everybody away and the whole future of the QB for the Broncos is easily answered.

As for the upcoming game I do like that Chicago probably is having trouble figuring out just how to prepare for this week. I honestly have no clue what style of offense we will run...Will Osweiler be under Center like Kubiak likes? Will he continue to play out of the Pistol/Shot Gun? How does this change our run game with this switch? What different play calls can we make with a cannon arm compared to that of Manning? Sets up pretty nicely for Osweiler to possibly have a big game.
