For most teams LT is a premier position. With a mobile QB like Russell that position carries a little less weight. It's a really interesting choice. You pay a QB a HUGE contract, you think they would want a good OL to protect that investment.
They lose Okung moving forward and there literally isn't a OL on that team that projects to even average a year or two down the road. And LT isn't something you typically find in quality later on in the draft. Obviously you can't pay everyone but I would have thought that Okung would have gotten a deal over Wagner. Wagner's a better player but he also plays a position that is a hell of a lot easier to find a decent replacement for.
I doubt many Seahawk fans would trade Okung for Wags, I sure would not.
Okung has missed 10 regular season games in the last 2 years. It did not affect the team too badly regarding wins and losses and allowed for younger players to get some snaps in games that count.
I am not dismissing the importance of having atop flight LT, but we have still won when ours was out and he was a team leader in money, penalties, and missed lots games.
We (Seahawk fans) know we need to make concessions to keep our main guys in house. My guess is Okungs is gone and most likely Irvin next year unless the cap increase is massive next year. We will also lose some depth players.
Fortunately Seattle will get some comp picks to ease the pain of players lost to FA.
