Seattle's front office and Wilson haggled over this for months. The amount I posted was close to Seattle's original offer, Only after Wilson quietly threatened to quit football and go to MLB did a deal finally get done. So.. Seattle felt it was in their best interest to Pay Wilson and secure a franchise QB for their success in the future. Smart move to be sure but is it too much? I think it is.

I think that any player making over say 300k is too much as far as I am concerned. I would love to have a job, working 6 mos, evn if it lasts for 5 years, some endoresemnts and I'm sure comped out the ass everywhere you go. But that's the way sports is these days, that a normal family cant afford to buy tickets, parking , food and some souvenirs, These owners were rich before they were football team owners.

Cam Newton has accomplished shit so far got a 31 mill signing bonus , so why not let Wilson get more 32, plus nice guaranteed money

Marino is another QB who was paid BIG bucks in his day and never won a super bowl and then you have Bart Starr who won 5 championships including 2 super bowls who played for pennies vs today's contracts.

All right, let's do this another way. Why don't you give me the giant list of black politicians that launched their political career from Washington state or the giant list of minority politicians who returned home out of tthe clear blue, after 20 year absence, and suddenly began a political career.

You can eventually parse it down far enough to where you'll be right I suppose. Nah, let's not bother wasting each other's time. Hey, you may be right. Let's let it play out and see. We get to see Russ spend 5 more years in the PNW, so we'll have to wait that long before he moves to Chicago or NY or Washington.

Seattle's defense is more responsible for their success not Wilson

As often as it's been debunked, I love it when someone trots out this tired line. Lets me know right from jump that they are some combination of lazy, dumb, or trollish.

But because some people haven't been following along, Seattle had a top 10 defense, a bottom third offense, and a losing record before Wilson came along. Wilson becomes about the only new starter on that offense and all of a sudden it's in the top half in yardage, top ten in points scored...and, hey, the defense isn't on the field for 40 minutes a game and they jump from very good to elite.

Funny how that works.

Yeah, I'm sure they took his "threat" to play baseball seriously. Dude washed out in AA ball, but was going to walk away from a high eight figure contract to give it another shot.

Right.

You should be very thankful of that. Those were dark times indeed. This was Stan Gelbaugh's inspiration..

Gelbaugh wasn't that mobile.

Cutler and Wilson.. most overpaid Quarterbacks in the league

Wowzer, putting that loser Cutler in comparison to Russell Wilson in ANY football performance way shows your lack of depth in football knowledge. Wow, just Wow. Cut..lllooollll....ler. Really, you came up with Cutler (the anti RW). Funny as hell dude. Too bad you were actually serious.

100% for sure, was there NEVER a time, that the Seahawk Brass took the 'baseball threat' to mean anything. To believe that (DUDE) is .....way....totally uncool. oh, and ignorant.

Romo got big escarole for not even being drafted, not bad for an undrafted QB
Tony has put up some solid numbers as a starting QB despite playing for some very average Cowboys teams. He had a great year last season with a good Cowboys team.

Brady was a true QB, a pocket passer, RW is a running QB. Just stop man u are looking bad right now. Please don't try and compare these 2. Now if you want to try and compare him to Mcnabb who was a running QB turned into a some what pocket passer Im ok with that.

yes I can see Wilson improve but making that much money he needs to be a lot better and be the main reason they win to justify the money he is making. Life is going to be different when they lose a lot of guys.
Nonetheless, the 'running QB' Wilson had better passing stats after his first three years than the pocket-passing QB Brady had after his first three years. Yes Wilson is quite a bit better at running the football than Brady ever was. But his passing stats are also better at similar points in their respective careers.

Which is no knock on Brady, who actually had impressive passing stats after his first three years and obviously went on from there to become a future first-ballot HOF-er. But the simple truth is, Wilson has had a remarkably successful beginning to his career in terms of passing efficiency, posing multiple threats to opposing defenses, leadership, and of course winning.

No doubt about he did have a great year last year, but he signed that big contract before great years or playoff wins. My response was more like some of the best fins come in later rounds. Brady 6th, Montana, 3rd, Curtis Martin 6th etc and some of the biggest busts, esp QB are first round picks like Leaf, Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith etc to name just a few
