As for the LB play, they have looked good stopping the run so far. However, they, along with the DBs, got a little lucky that Kaep and Gabbert were a little off on some of their throws. Overall, the D has looked good.

Our O-line so far looks a lot like they did last season: great in pass protection and mediocre, at best, in opening holes for the RBs. Of course, they are up against an outstanding D-line, so one can't expect too much. Hillman and CJ Anderson have done a good job of gaining yards anyway.

The big takeaway is the 10/17 on 3rd down conversions. We did something similar against Seattle I believe. Still I agree a better showing in the ground game would have been good to see. Hopefully Ball can come in and get that extra 1.5 yards per rush we will need.

At one point in the 4th qtr the broadcast flashed a stat where the Niners had allowed 217 or so rushing yards the week prior and just 55 this week. You have to believe a team that has been one of the more hard-nosed at defense the last few years zeroed in on stopping the run this week after allowing 217 rushing yards.

One thing I didn't like to see was that one rushing yard Manning himself added. :gaah: Thankfully he came up grinning.

Makes ya cringe don't it? I can't believe Brady threw a tackle at Williams last week. Jesus H, it's fucking pre-season.

Something about trying to prevent that pick-six, even if it was merely preseason, probably got the better of his judgement.

So just rewatched the game and a few notes...

Probably player of the game in my book was Omar Bolden. The guy was everywhere on defense. Should have had a couple of picks in this one. I don't know where this guy has been the last few years but hey if he can help us go win a Super Bowl with some great play on the field I am all for it.

Osweiler is putting together a great preseason so far. His one really bad throw for a pick last week is really about the only pass that I question what the heck was he doing. He looked very calm and collected in the pocket and was very accurate. Not quite ready to declare him the heir to the thrown when Peyton retires but he is definitely making me feel a bit more at ease if he would be needed for some spot duty this year.

Brandon Marshall looked pretty good substituting for Trevathan. He was a little late getting to the hole on the RB on a few plays but all in all not bad.

The OL looks so much better this year. I realize we are playing against vanilla defenses but the 49ers and Seahawks have 2 of the better DL's in the NFL and can get pressure usually only sending 4. In 2 games (4 drives) Manning has only had 1 registered quarterback hit on him. Looks like this new combo for the OL is working quite well for pass blocking. Clark makes me a bit nervous as he can get stood up and drove back into Manning some but I think he will get better as the season progresses with more practice. Hopefully this unit can stay healthy as our back ups have been a complete opposite story. Also run blocking has been decent. We have 3 rushing touchdowns in 2 games which was not the case last year at all. And that is with missing our top RB so far.

Defensive Line is probably going to be the toughest place to make cuts. Unrein looked great yesterday stuffing the run and getting after the quarterback up the middle. I honestly think Vickerson might be in some trouble of making this team. Plus then how can you cut a guy like Anunike who has 2 sacks in 2 games and just looks like he is in the backfield every other play (given it is against 2nd and 3rd string players).

Injury Updates for those wondering...
Lamin Barrow has a bruised leg. Nothing serious. My guess is they have him on a limited basis this week to let him fully recover before the season.

Gerell Robinson--Hyper extended knee but again nothing serious.

Montee Ball--He is actually expected to start practicing again this week on a limited basis. Good sign he should be ready by week 1 at least in a limited role if nothing else.

Like Ive said before I dont take much into preseason but I would like to see Emanuel Sanders involved in a preseason game. Its been D.T. and J.T. and not much else when it comes to starters.

So far the Broncos have ran a bunch of formations that they maybe ran once or twice last season in the regular season. I think they are experimenting on the offense to see what works. They have ran big run formations with 3-TE's and then they have done the 5-Wide formations as well. I don't think we saw either of those at all last year (maybe a little of the 5-wide just can't remember). Sanders not being involved doesn't concern me yet considering he only played 2 drives in the 1st game and was up against Sherman the whole time and then didn't play this last game. My guess is they are being cautious with his injury plus not wanting to reveal how they actually plan to use him yet.

Also Welker was involved in both games having 3 catches in 2 games (just as many as JT).

Also I think DT and JT alone can make an offense pretty darn dangerous. IF they were all we had on offense I still think we would be a top-5 offense with Manning throwing to them.

:L Hard for Sanders to be involved when he didn't even play yesterday.

I think 2 major plusses of yesterday that I forgot to mention...This team in 2 preseason games has yet to fumble! They have made this a huge focus of the off season and so far it has shown they have improved in this area.

The 2nd and just as important is it looks like we escaped with only minor injuries. We have played 2 very physical football teams and so far our team has held up. Need to hear for sure how Barrow's tests come back today but otherwise at this point Trevathan is the only significant player that could miss some time. Very different feeling compared to last year. I think the physical play in practice has actually helped these guys in these first 2 games to not only match the physicality but because of that be the ones pushing guys to the ground instead of being the ones pushed to the ground and risking injury.

Overall, very good both sides of ball. What impressed me most was on the D side of ball. The front 7 depth looks great. Even after most starters were out, the pressure and intensity didn`t diminish much at all. Up untill recently, when starters were rested, you saw a deep drop off in caliber of play from the back ups,etc. Would of liked to see Thompson get more carries with 1st team in this game. Bolden impressed me as well. McCray didn`t. Seemed late to react on plays I saw. Dysert performed as well as could be expected given his cast of characters. Very encouraging team effort all-around. This wk vs Houston we should see the play book open a tad bit more I`am assuming. Cuts aren`t to far away and I`am not looking forward to that at all.:{

The Houston game should be a great test of our revamped offensive line. Clowney looks downright scary.

Agreed Randymon. This is one of those years not looking forward to cuts. I usually like to see how we form our roster but knowing there are some quality guys who have worked their butts off for this team are not going to make it does not sit well right now. I honestly have no idea how they are going to choose this year.

Also quick update on injuries. Gerrell Robinson is expected to miss a week or two (he was a long shot to make the roster anyway) and Lamin Barrow is actually expected to practice tomorrow so crisis averted at this time.

Also don't forget this week for practice the Broncos are having 3 days (Tuesday-Thursday) where they will actually be practicing against the Texans. Should be a great test for our OL to have Watt and Clowney going against them. Probably not going to face a tougher 1-2 punch in the NFL the rest of the year.

Two good points. The second is the one I've most appreciated, since I remember watching the preseason games against Seattle and SF last year and feeling like we get pushed around in both games. Certainly not much evidence of that this year.

That is a nice block by Latimer. Also a nice job pulling by Franklin, which is good to see, since I've read that he's struggled some with that.
