That's really what made the tweet so incredibly great.

Also, the Lecavalier one was just funny because he thought Vinny was the missing piece. "Ah! All is well! Vinny is heeerrrre!"

It's a good thing twitter wasn't around when they got Roman Cecmanek and Jiri Dopita.

That was some funny shit on the radio, though.

"Like a Czech Mario Lemieux!" and "Hasek wishes he was that quick"

Before FN folded, I posted a comment when Umberger was released saying something to the effect that I will believe things are getting better in the Flyers front office if Hextall doesn't pick him up. A couple days later the deal was done. I know Hextall is in a jam with the contracts that Holmgren put together but this made no sense to me.

Don't know what other Flyers fans think of it.

Umberger still plays with a lot of heart and practically manufactured the OT home win against Pitt by himself. His problem is that he cashed in a big contract that he couldn't possibly live up to. The team changed around him and when they picked up a younger faster RJ on the waiver wire, his days were numbered. I still like him, and hope he finds the right fit. Philly is built pretty similar to Columbus (more wear you down vs flat out speed), so I don't know if that's the best fit for him. I fully expected to get a pick and have to retain salary. Glad the Flyers took him and gave up an asset.

5 years left on Hartnell might be tough to swallow, but he has the same goofy-ass personality as the rest of the Jackets, so that's good. Should be fun to watch. I think he's more versatile than RJ and a bit faster, IMO. It's an upgrade, but both contracts suck.

Plus he chose the best number to wear.

I was surprised at first but it's not that bad - R.J. can play center and wing, unlike Scott Hartnell - he only scored two less goals than him this past season, in his so-called "worst season" and he can play PK, which Scott Hartnell doesn't do - Scott Hartnell couldn't hang with Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek, and his playoff performance wasn't very good either - it seems like the Flyers have had to push Hartsy to try and get into shape, the year he was great was when Jaromir Jagr was there because he had someone he could go to the gym with and get in shape, since then he's been meh

R.J. Umberger isn't a difference maker but the reasons I outlined plus the fact he has two less years on his contract, and the trade makes a little more sense

I'm holding out hope that Umberger still has something left, but we will see this season. The only reason I could come up with for the deal was Umberger has one less year remaining on his contract and that gives Hextall a tiny bit of flexibility in a couple of years.

You'll like Hartnell, if he finds his comfort zone. He won't break any scoring records but he can give the Blue Jackets 20+ and provide a lot of energy. I think the Flyers may miss his attitude and the #HartnellDown twitter. What number is he wearing?

And, btw, we still haven't gotten a "Thank You" for Bobrovsky! :gaah:

All good points. I'm waiting to see what he does and hoping for the best.

Now if Hextall can bring back other ex-Flyers, like Justin Williams, Patrick Sharp, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Bryzgal.....oh no, not him!

Carchidi strikes me as a guy who is in the owner's pocket so anything the front office does is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I honestly thought the Fly-boys would do something a bit more esp. with free agency than this swap out. The dumped that awful contract, but dont really see any other huge upside from there.

To me, Hairbags looked old in the playoffs

In years past, they definitely would have done something bigger, but with Hexy here, that's not the case, and I'm happy about that - no need to overpay for middling players in free agency - Hexy knows that because he was in LA and helped them get that first Stanley Cup - you don't win by spending in free agency

I have the shirt already. Buying a jersey soon.

As for Bob, I tried to get a movement going to have Holmgren elected into the hall of fame in the Builder's category and have a statue put up outside Nationwide. Not just about Bob though, he also took Mason off our hands and avoided that whole locker room kerfuffle.

Hextall can't do much. They are already over the cap even with this deal. Now if he can get someone to take Lacavailler (sp?) in trade (Hello, Nashville) that would help.

Duh! Of course it's 43

Mason has been great for the Flyers. Didn't realize he was a locker room problem for the Blue Jackets.

Yeah, he just wore out his welcome with the entire staff. No questioning his talent, but he was not well liked off the ice. When Bob caught fire there was tension growing. He just didn't think he had to listen to anyone because he won the Calder. He refused to work and take responsibility and alienated a lot of guys. But he was just a dumb kid who had too much success too fast. Didn't know how to handle it and when he realized he was in trouble he didn't have the social skills to get anyone who would help him. Or had already pissed off the wrong ones.

I'm happy he's gotten it back together, with his fragile ego and Philly fans having a reputation for being unforgiving with goalies it was a recipe for disaster. He handled it well. One of the truest cases of "needed a change of scenery".

He did well and if he continues like last year, he should be fine. With Emery backing him up, there won't be as much of a concern about losing the starting job so that might make it easier for him.

I was impressed esp. the last games against the Rag's, he looked very good.

Kudo's to Emery for the way he has greatly extended his career by accepting a "bullpen" role. A few years back injury seemed ready to take him off the ice permanently.

Yea, he seems pretty comfortable as a back-up and he and Mason (reportedly) get along well.

Didn't Emery have some sort of degenerative hip issue ?

Yes he did and he deserves a ton of credit for working his butt off in rehab to get back to the NHL. Just don't ask him to put on a hat.
