The lack of another poll is actually not shocking at all. If they were to do a poll and the results came back and said the majority of the populace didnt think the name should be change, it would take alot of steam out of the debate.

They probably have done a poll, just not with any result they want published. Unfortunately, any poll the redskins would do, would immediately be qualified as biased. We need a more recent poll, done by an independent group, to truly understand the current landscape of this issue.

To say that Bob Costas is an idiot is well, ya know...looks sorta stupid. That is why I posted it.
I will cut you some slack as you probably did not read what some of the earlier posters wrote in this thread.
As for what you believe on him winning his 8 sportscaster of the year awards or the others, I won't get into it.
He does not shy away from the main stream issues. Never has. Is that grandstanding? Your opinion.

Now I do disagree with Costas on the Redskins name issue, but many Redskins fans don't take into consideration the guilt that many feel about the name. Most of these people did not grow up loving the Redskins and what the name stands for to us Redskins fans. I respect his opinion, and I hope he learns to change it one day. If he doesn't, I won't lose any sleep.

Please re-read my reply. Nowhere did I call Costas an idiot. I called him a pompous windbag which IMO is true (as it is for many of these network types who believe that they are God's gift to all of us). He is part of a trend of journalists who try to overhype everything.

Also - why should any of us feel guilty about the name Redskins? I have posted many times here that if the name changes - so be it. However - nobody should beat themselves up over the name, and - again - I have yet to see a poll where a large % of Native Americans take exception to the name. All I see are token protests and loudmouth journalists and politicians voicing their opinions on this one (when oddly they said nothing for years & years & years).

You want to worship Costas - great - I will choose otherwise.

Forgetting the politicians, wouldn't it be something like this?

Skins fans supporting the name, 95 %.
NFL fans supporting the name, 75 %
Non NFL fans supporting the name, 5 %

You left out one major area in this one - % of people who don't care. For the non-NFL fans I am guessing that this is very high (save for the people who want to make a cause about everything or hate sports).

Again - this was basically a non-issue until very recently. Why do you believe that is the case? I think a big part is that the media (particularly the WP & ESPN) had time and space to fill. Why else did this go from 0 to 60 in a very short time?

You don't even pay attention. I posted the awards info before you even got here. Therefore you were not the one calling him an idiot.

My post to Cali was all about 10 seconds of polling fun with this frustrating issue.
That's all. Sorry I did not hit the streets on this one.

Any of us feel guilty? So you are not a Redskins fan? Take it easy, I know you are. Please read that paragraph again.

Also, the fact that people who are not Redskins or NFL fans or sports fans might feel guilty about the Redskins name, (even though you and I don't)t, doesn't mean they are wrong. It doesn't mean that you and I are wrong either.

I see no difference in attacking the Redskins name, than the Indians, or Warriors.

And no I don't worship Costas. He is a very intelligent man though. It took Peter King a long time before he finally got on board the Art Monk bandwagon. I still don't believe it was genuine. I think he was trying to save face. I call him a stubborn bastard. Do these guys have egos? Yes. Does that get in the way of common sense at times. Absolutely.

I didn't just mean Redskins - I meant everyone. Why should anyone (at least at this time) feel guilty about the name Redskins? Did they do something wrong? Whoever feels this way is a pretty weak person who really doesn't understand the situation. Oh well.

I will leave it that - nothing against you or anyone else here - we are all mainly fellow Redskins fans & I respect that bond. Peace and HTTR (or Hail to the Whatever :suds:)

It all goes to the infinite arrogance of these two to think that a.) anyone really cares about their political agendas or even if they do, that b.) they have the right to shove them down our throat.

And I find Dan Patrick guilty by association. I used to like him (even got on the air one morning years ago with him discussing Bobby "The General" Knight) but detest him now.

Agree about Patrick - gets harder to take by the week. Also - whenever I see his show he is constantly promoting his appearances is those horrible Adam Sandler movies - could he more obvious?

He makes me sick. Even during his last few years at ESPN he acted as if he were the celebrity and the actual athlete was the nobody.

I'm sorry but not even remotely the same thing. I've never once heard a single person refer to a Native American as a "Redskin" and certainly not in a disparaging manner. It's faux outrage from people who want everything to be offensive. Good Lord, it's so frustrating when people want to create something that isn't there.

Let's put them on exact same terms then, suppose there were a team called the "Blackskins" and their logo looked like this,

I suppose you wouldn't find that at all inappropriate either.

I would have no problem if there were a team named the "Whiteskins." I'm sorry but I don't see any correlation between the two. I've said it before; if a large group of Native Americans comes out and says they find the word offensive, I would be fine with changing the name.

What would the Whiteskin logo look like? Buddy Holly?
