lol at salary dumping Fielder to a legit AL rival because of a small sample size of playoff failures. Rangers are big winners.

BOTH keystone positions are DEFENSE FIRST positions so Detroit should count any offense they get from Kinsler and Iglesias as gravy.

Offhand I'd call the Tigers the winners in this deal.

You give no weight to the fact the trade clears up positional logjams and fills needs on both sides?

I think it might have been a necessary evil for the Tigers at best.

Its pure win for the Rangers, though

So has anyone of the 25-50 paid talking heads I have read today on the subject.

IMO, it would be hard to say that the Tigers defense did not get A LOT better.

Yes, but everyone is assuming that Cabrera is just going to continue on his near historic pace

its more than salary dumping

it lets them respend that money elsewhere

like keeping scherzer and locking up miggy who can walk in two years

good deal for both sides, I think

I think they call that blind homerism. And, like WAR,....what is it good for?

Absolutely NOTHING!

Looks who is spending some $$$

Ervin Santana is almost certain to leave Kansas City as a free agent and the Royals [ame=""]announced[/ame] that they’ve replaced him in the rotation with Jason Vargas, signing the left-hander to a four-year contract. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com [ame=""]says it’s worth[/ame] $32 million.
Vargas was traded from the Mariners to the Angels for Kendrys Morales last offseason and threw 150 innings with a 4.02 ERA, missing time with a blood clot in his arm pit.
He’s a 30-year-old soft-tosser with a 4.30 career ERA, but Kansas City should be a good home ballpark for masking Vargas’ homer-related issues and before the blood cot he’d thrown 193, 201, and 217 innings the previous three seasons.
Vargas is a decent enough mid-rotation starter, but much like with Jeremy Guthrie last offseason the Royals are making a very long and expensive commitment to a mediocre 30-something starter. The Angels didn’t make Vargas a qualifying offer for fear he’d accept the one-year, $14.1 million deal, so they won’t get any compensation for his departure and he won’t cost the Royals a draft pick.

And that is why I think its a necessary evil. Always lock up starting pitching. But the Rangers are in a really good spot right now, imo.
