Sounds like bullshit. He wasn't the only player hazing this, coward. Miami is trying to put all the blame on Incognito to protect the brand. That's obviously speciation but I'm just not buying this shit. The team didn't know a thing about this, even though it's been happening for two years? Come on, man.

Reports are the team was told about this, and nothing happened. I have heard only one name mentioned with this story with RI, he was the only one suspended. If more players were involved, I am sure they would be suspended along with RI. As far as I know, RI was the worse one. Sure other players maybe be in on it, but racists and threatening phone calls?

Martin has been placed on some list...I forget.

I find it hard to believe that, NO ONE, in the locker room would come to his defense, if what you're saying is the case. It seems like a lot of truth is being withheld at the moment.

From the details that I have read all of the veterans on the OL were in on the bullying. RI looks like the ring leader of the group but all of them were guilty. This also sounds like Miami is not quite like any other locker room in the NFL in they have taken things further than any other organization in the NFL and I do think RI is a big reason why. Martin at some point did go talk to the coaching staff about this but from what I have gathered ignored him on the issue. It wasn't until he walked out that the team finally stopped turning a blind eye to the issue.

Now I do agree that Martin should have at some point just said stop but we have no idea what all RI and the others were doing whether it be physical abuse and/or mental abuse. From the sound of it there were some very threatening calls me at some point to the point that Martin at least took them very serious and was willing to fork over $15,000 just for one trip in fear for something happening to him. That doesn't sound like just regular rookie hazing to me.

???????

You are under the ridiculous impression that they were bullying him because they didn't like him or wanted him to suffer. It seems like an unlikely reason considering he is their teammate. A much more likely reason is that they wanted him to show more gall and stand up for himself.

This is why multiple former linemen have said that he should have stood up for himself, either verbally or physically. It's also why there have been multiple fights on Hard Knocks and the teams have normally shown pride in the rookies when they do it.

I'm not saying they didn't like him. I am saying they saw and easy target in somebody they knew they could push around and took advantage of the situation. With stories now coming out about how the veterans were using the rookies to make car payments and mortgage payments, be a personal ATM to all veterans, pay for trips, meals, grocery bills, strip club visits. I understand he maybe should have stood up for himself more but when multiple teammates are coming up abusing this and then you have RI threatening him over multiple phone calls and text messages it can be tough for many to stand up for themselves. In any other work force there would be people fired, lawsuits handed out, and criminal charges brought up. I understand the NFL functions a little differently but there is a line that these Dolphin players crossed. Agents of former Dolphin players have talked about how the Dolphin organization is the worst locker room situation in the NFL. This isn't just like regular NFL rookie hazing trying to get the guy to stand up for himself. This obviously has gone way beyond that and so far all we have seen is the scratching of the surface in this situation.

It's fucking football, for crying out loud. If this dude is that weak of mind, fuck him. I really am starting to believe that it will end up flag football. Man the fuck up, bitch.

I am sick to death of the " It's Football" Argument. We all know that thanks for the news update.

People can still be pro athletes and be emotional, be physically strong and emotionally weak, the fact that it's football has nothing to di with, such an asinine comment.

I just saw that on ESPN. I guess I'll just wait until the evidence unfolds.

And yet, by all accounts, Dez has earned the respect of his teammates and is a very productive NFL player. That is more than Johnathon Martin can say.

Might have more to do with their talent levels than who they told to pound sand, though.

Still SOUNDS stupid.

Unless there were legitimate death threats...guns brandished, etc., then stand up and be a fucking man. If there were the aforementioned involved, then why didn't he go to the police?

I'm sure there could be a lot to this, but it just sounds ridiculous.

I wonder if Robotic Dreams would consider Aldon Smith emotionally weak for his issues?

The more info that comes out in this case, the Dolphins, the more bizarre it gets. Somebody here posted that the rookies were making mortgage and car payments, but the Bleacher Report article says they jokingly hinted at that. Hell, I don't even know where to start, because if they actually made mortgage and car payments, it seems as if there is no end.

Emotionally weak, or just dumb....all that money...fn hire a team of experts to help you, and get back to work and earn yer pay.

It's tough to empathize with multi millionaire's problems.

Obviously all he was going through was enough for him to walk away from millions guaranteed money. Plus he was on his rookie contract where he was making a little over a million a year. We have no idea how much these veterans were making him give them and from the sounds of the threatening calls and text messages my guess is there was a threat of some kind of physical violence towards him if he did not cooperate.

Go to the authorities then.

Or stand up to them.

Hell, hire a team of thug-bodyguards...DO SOMETHING!!

It seems he has a fragile mind, that would've inevitably cracked, with or without the bullying.

If this is some Aaron Hernandez kinda gang, shit...maybe, but you still could involve the police, and if you truly felt that you were in danger, then that is what he should've done.

You have people around the country commit suicide everyday because they are bullied. Yes they can take it to the authorities but obviously mentally the fear of retaliation against them is what keeps them from doing so. He went to his coaching staff and told them what was going on yet nothing was done. He tried to reach out for help it just wasn't answered. He did finally stand up for himself and walked away from it. Honestly I thought it was the mature thing to do instead of completely snapping like he could have on these guys he just walked away.

That's your burden not mine, money has little to do with emotinal stability. By this train of thought you would be more sympathetic to some poor, homelss, crackhead then you would a guy earning a level with issues.

Gigantic children who shave. I am not sure why people are cool with it in NFL locker rooms. Can you bully and haze people at your job? If so, I doubt it is in a high skilled field.

Be adults. You are, in theory, supposed to be one at this age.

Martin by all accounts is just a different dude. Ivy League parents, Stanford educated, and not opposed to going his own way. Can't fault the guy for being different.

If RI was a team leader like they are saying he was then instead of making things difficult and hard on the guy he should have found a way to bring him closer to the group!

For everyone saying man up, remember football is as much a team/family thing as it is a business. The Phins are playing for a playoff berth they are not already looking at 2014! If anyone should have manned up it should have been RI and his little posse and found a way to make Martin and the other young's guys part of the team instead of making them pay the bills.

SO now there are racists and threatening voice mails from RI? Well this got even more interesting..Getting picked on is one thing, but being the subject of racists attacks is another(if true).

This.

Incognito sent texts saying he was going to shit in Martin's mouth and do stuff to his family. That ain't "rookie hazing."

I love it. It's okay to chuck a plate of spaghetti on the ground when people leave if you try to sit next to them because he is just "different."

Are you all serious? That reeks of mental instability. The correct way to respond to bullying is to tell the person to stop. If that doesn't work, in a normal context you go to authorities. In the NFL, where you have to project an image of toughness, you can either do that or physically stand up to them. What you don't do is talk to no one and just sulk like a little child and eventually leave a team that is paying you millions of dollars to perform.

That's not okay just because somebody bullied him. It suggests mental problems and/or weakness. Neither of those are a good thing in football or in life.

Uh...it certainly allows more avenues for help!? Get some help if yer emotionally unstable. Do some research, read some theories, study treatments....be proactive.

I don't condone bullying, but I don't condone the victim mentality either.
