Suspicion? Is that your complete analysis? He was an instant beast his rookie year. He's 10 pounds heavier and in the best shape of his life, healthy and hungry to prove his worth to his teammates.

Luck gets to be his appetizer Sunday Night. 3 more courses in weeks 11, 12 and 13.

man..I've almost forgotten what its like to have Miller playing...let the fun begin

Has a god ever been arrested for burglary?

How about for vandalism?

You would think there would be a god get out of jail free card.

You would think that you would follow your own team more than the Seahawks. But you dont.

No, but it is impossible to 'prove' that he will not be a beast off the bat.Why the heck would I 'strongly argue' about something that is nothing more than a conjecture. Maybe I should have made it more clear that it was a conjecture? I don't see what your beef is. If there is anyone who could go berserk after a 6 week suspension, it is Von Miller. With that being said, I would not be shocked if he started slow for a game or two before turning on the jets and eventually gets the "OLB Belt".

Of course Miller could get 5 sacks for giggles too, we will just have to watch to find out.

The main reason I will not consider Von Miller arguments yet is simply that he has done nothing in 2013. Why would he be in the discussion until he does? It is the best OLB of 2013...Granted, there is a very strong body of evidence to suggest he can outdo Hali and others based on the past, but shouldn't we wait a few weeks to confirm?

i find it surprising san fran fans are bashing a seattle stud draft pick. wait second that no i dont.

Oh come on. Saying it's crazy to claim Bruce Irvin has been the best OLB in the NFL so far this year isn't exactly bashing him.

It's hard to compare Von Miller & Tamba Hali. One plays in a 3-4 and the other a 4-3. It's a completely different position. Just about every time Miller rushes the passer, he's the 5th guy coming. Hali is almost like a down lineman who's going with only 3 other guys rushing the passer a good portion of the time if not most of the time.

This is actually a good point that I totally whiffed on, well done, Ninersickness.

I suppose it begs the question of can one, if at all possible with any degree of precision and confidence, compare a player from a 1 gap 3-4 ( Hali) to a player playing in a 4-3 (Miller)

That's not really true about Miller. He frequently rushed last year from a 4-3 DE position as part of a four-man rush.

Seems to me that Miller is more versatile than Hali. The former, in addition to being an outstanding edge rusher, is also capable of bull rushing, holds up well against the run and is excellent in coverage. Not sure that Hali can do all of that, though he is an outstanding edge rusher, despite finishing with fewer than half the sacks that Miller got last year.

Not really. On passing downs the Broncos usually play him like a 4-3 defensive end and the end moves inside. So usually he's rushing with 3 other guys.

By the way so far this year I'd take Suggs over anybody else. Hali did a lot of damage against the Raiders patchwork offensive line this year, and IMO has a lot more help across the defense than Suggs has. Plus Suggs gets extra credit for being one of only 5 guys to drop Manning this season.

Even if Von Miller started slow, he'll have a positive impact since opposing teams will probably double team him a lot. This will open up a lot of one-on-one match ups in the trenches and frees Ayers, Wolfe, Phillips, Knighton and Vickerson to attack the quarterback.

Certainly plenty of reasons ( and rightfully so, it is Von Miller, no team is going to wait and see what Von does) that Miller will make a positive impact right off the bat. I am just not sure we will be seeing dominance right away.

Denver fans are making some good points I must admit though. Interesting so far.

Have we slipped into the twilight zone?

A Pats troll claiming Bruce Irvin the best olb, just teeing up the SF trolls to cite his flaws? WTF is going on here......

Sorry but if a someone is going to toss Irvin's name into the "best OLB" argument.... laughing at that comedy is not something I can prevent. No one with a straight face can honestly say that Irvin is the best OLB in this league. That is just fucking stupid.

This is true on "passing downs," but an obvious passing down isn't very frequent.

You've probably seen more Broncos games than I, but I would be interested to see what percentage of the time he lines up as a DE and how often he lines up as an OLB. I would be willing to bet he lines up at OLB far more...

But this thread isn't about who the best OLB in the NFL is; it's about who's having the best season.

I was responding to your assertion that when he rushes the qb he's coming as one of 5 rushers. But more often than not that's not the case.

Completely understandable.

Now crawl back in your hole until the next time someone references the Seahawks.

your right he hasnt been the best this year but hes just coming back from suspension. i sorta missread the OP topic post, for -this- season yea hali and houston are the best. i was thinking who is the best olb in general so i brought up irvin. irvin has potential to be scary good.
