Holy Cow, I read the first sentence and called my Mother, who is doing all the work for this trip, her friend told her where she was looking at was nice, she booked the rooms the rooms this morning. I said, this might be a not so great place for a hotel and then read your post to her, she said..."Well, we are in Las Colinas", but she was a little alarmed...and was going to call her friend again for her own piece of mind.
so thank you!!
Yes Rev recommended Babe's chicken, and ESPN, another restaurant, we will try those both.

If it is in Las Colinas, you are fine. In fact, Las Colinas is pretty much like its own little city. It is on the far north end of Irving, away from all of the run-down crap old Irving has to offer. So as long as the hotel you've booked is there, I wouldn't change any reservations. There are a lot of nice hotels, restaurants, and stores in Las Colinas. It's night-and-day difference from the rest of Irving.

Elvis showed a lot of maturity last year when he bounced back in the second half after a terrible start. He may be better equipped to handle the lead off roll now than in the past. Maybe. I'd certainly rather see him in the lead off spot than Martin.

119 plate appearances last year in the leadoff spot, .231 average, .299 OBP & .269 SLG%, .568 OPS

820 plate appearances career; .269 average, .340 OBP & .308 SLG%, .648 OPS

Last year or years past, he's a different hitter in the leadoff spot, he gets on base at a decent enough clip, BUT his power numbers nose dive (doubles not homeruns, he's less aggressive in the leadoff spot)

rather we had someone like Cruz behind Beltre at 5 and Rios at 6 with Choo leading off

Not enough room in the outfield blue both of them, and Cruz won't want to dh.

FYI, there's a Babe's in Arlington near the ballpark.

If she's staying in Las Colinas and not going the way of Arlington there's also one on the border of Farmers Branch and Carrollton. The drive shouldn't be more than 15 mins or so to that location.

I didn't read the previous pages. I just thought she may want to drive by the ballpark, and Cowboys Stadium.

That would be a bad idea, Martin's not ready to leadoff, and it really has hurt Elvis' game in the past and Rios doesn't get on base enough to be a leadoff hitter

Steals don't mean someone is a good leadoff hitter

Why is it a bad idea to save some money on one player and then invest that saved money to add even further depth? Seems like good business to me. Granted we could use a good lead off guy but realistically Choo just might not happen. What I'm saying about Cruz might not happen. It sure seems like the Cruz thing is the best case scenario if Choo does't work out. Also, I never mentioned anything about steals, so I am not sure where that came from. It does't hurt for your lead off guy to be fast though… so he can leg out some infield singles.

It sure seems like most of the time you post on here it is to tell someone else they are wrong… when in all reality, we are all just trying to predict the future, which is something none of us can really do.

Oh I know. Hopefully she'll want to go to Arlington only for RBIA and not the idiocracy infested Cowboys Stadium. Just sayin :)

agreed, it would be great to sign but it seems pretty clear that is not in the team budget not to mention Cruz values his time in the OF as you noted.

I love the Cowboys and always will but I absolutely hate and loathe what they have become. We're the Raiders but even they're going to turn that thing around eventually now that Al Davis is dead.

Choo at the top means ALOT more scoring is going to happen

Well, potentially it means that but at the same time, signing him also ties up more money for longer which in turn means the team has less money to add depth at other positions for a longer amount of time. The way I look at it, Choo is not nearly as good as a player as Beltre. I really don't think he deserves a larger deal. I honestly don't think anyone is going to bite at what they are asking for him now. The Yankees way overpaid for Ellsbury, I don't think anyone else out there was even near the same ballpark for him.

If we want Choo, it looks likes its going to be a waiting game and if it he goes somewhere else, it may be too late for us pick up a legitimate plan B.

Did Cruz say he wants a full time outfield job?

Cruz has never been shy about saying how much playing defense means to him. I know many of you would say it doesn't show but he puts in a lot more work on his defense than he does on his offense… he has said that himself.

I am right there with you on that… I like to hope every season that maybe this is the one where they turn it around but deep down I know I am just kidding myself.

I told you why I thought it was a bad idea, if you can't handle a differing opinion then maybe this isn't the place for you, seriously why posit a suggestion if you're not prepared to handle a different opinion, it seems now like you expected people to agree with you

I could only assume by your recommendation of Rios for leading off that you were looking at steals as his OBP is pretty substandard for a leadoff hitter

Didn't say steals were bad, just not the best measure of a leadoff hitter

I'm all about saving money and looking towards the future but leadoff is a pretty big whole along with another OFer, seems like two birds one stone to me

Little bit of right now is important, if the goal is to not contend next year, then no point in spending money on either then and play the young guys, which I'm also OK with

Signing Cruz still leaves a big hole in the leadoff spot, signing Choo fills both

Offensively, while different players, they are essentially a wash, value wise

Its Beltre's defensive value that gives him the edge over Choo

You can't really base what Choo should get based on a contract signed 3 years ago by a player who plays a different position

Market value is what market is, do I think market should be what Ellsbury, Werth or Crawford got? of course not, but what's done is done
