as far as I can tell I'm not inteferring with his work. I'm not obliged to sit back and relax, it's an offseason thread.
Not the JD can do no wrong thread. If that's the case, then why even have the thread? JD will fix everythiing so why waste the time. Let's all just sign off, OR constantly just sing his praises...or damn those who don't constantly praise his every move or lack of
Is it really that black and white? That's silly
I don't think saying "we are continuing to work on the team" is going to make anyone feel "warm and fuzzy"

You and your hyperbole. Bitch all you want. I don't care if you look like a whiny cry baby if you don't. Just know that nowhere in the gm's job description is it listed that he has to kiss you on the forehead and tell you it will all be ok.

Wow pretty impressive. Choo and fielder were 3 and 4 in amount of times getting on base last year

I know this isn't as popular with most of you but I say make Cruz that 3 year offer he requested from the Rangers and just lock him up. He won't cost what Choo will and that will give them more space to improve the pen, bench, or maybe even add another SP via FA or by trade. It also give Choice a little more time to develop (granted I think Rios' contract is up next year though). I think Elvis, Rios, or Martin will be fine at lead off. Keep in mind it was Martin's first season.

That would be a bad idea, Martin's not ready to leadoff, and it really has hurt Elvis' game in the past and Rios doesn't get on base enough to be a leadoff hitter

Steals don't mean someone is a good leadoff hitter

Lainey- a general rule of thumb is to avoid Irving at all costs. It is an absolute toilet. One section of Irving called Las Colinas is nice, but it is mostly comprised of corporate headquarters and upscale apartments where the corporate employees live. It's also where the Four Seasons resort is where the Byron Nelson is played. There are a handful of good restaurants there too. So if the hotel you've selected is in the Las Colinas area, then you should be fine. But anywhere else in Irving I would avoid like the plague. Irving is old, run-down, fairly poor, and generally an eye sore.

I'm not sure which chicken place was recommended to you, but if it was Babe's, then that is definitely a great choice. Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse (on Lemmon Avenue in Dallas) is great affordable BBQ. And there are tons of great options for Tex-Mex, provided it's not a gross low-end chain like El Fenix or Don Pablo's.

Holy Cow, I read the first sentence and called my Mother, who is doing all the work for this trip, her friend told her where she was looking at was nice, she booked the rooms the rooms this morning. I said, this might be a not so great place for a hotel and then read your post to her, she said..."Well, we are in Las Colinas", but she was a little alarmed...and was going to call her friend again for her own piece of mind.
so thank you!!
Yes Rev recommended Babe's chicken, and ESPN, another restaurant, we will try those both.

Choo, while expensive, provides several needed things

A solid power bat (.465 career SLG%)

A good leadoff hitter (career .389 OBP & .423 last year)

Solid on the basepaths (20+ steals 4 of last 5 years), but he will probably age better than Ellsbury b/c his game is not reliant on his speed as opposed to his hitting & patience

He does not provide much defense but he's also not terrible provided you keep him out of CF, but he's not worse than Cruz (minus the arm)

He's also not very good against LHPs, but he still manages to get on base at a good clip

Elvis showed a lot of maturity last year when he bounced back in the second half after a terrible start. He may be better equipped to handle the lead off roll now than in the past. Maybe. I'd certainly rather see him in the lead off spot than Martin.

Am I the only one that has a hard time paying a lead-off type hitter $20+ million per season?
