Couldn't play for shit? He had a 3 year stretch where he put up better than replacement value. He wasn't a horrible player, but it wasn't his primary focus at all. And he was doing this all in under 100 games a year but once.

Then I stand corrected.

Am I being crazy when I can imagine the Rangers signing Tanaka and using a SP in a trade to sign someone like CarGo or Braun for that big bat we so desperately need?

It's a possibility but they may even try to roll out a super staff if Tanaka is the real deal. Imagine having Darvish, Holland, Harrison, Perez, and Tanaka for a 5 man rotation.

That would be awesome...but ask Darvish how he feels about losing 1-0.

That's been bantered around quite a bit actually. Many seem to think it's JDs preferred route for acquiring an OF.

I wonder when Tanaka will decide what he plans on doing?

The Rangers did it as a move to show the minor leaguers in their organization how to act and inspire to be as an athlete. Wilson is an outstanding citizen and person. He will come to camp and his work ethic and personality might inspire some of the younger guys. Pretty cheap for a motivational speaker if you ask me.

I think HE has decided. He wants play MLB. It's his club that's not sure if they're going to post him.

I heard the club say that they would leave it up to Tanaka. I guess $20 mill is not enough for them after the $51.7 mill paid for Darvish.

I don't foresee the offense being as bad as they were last season. They can still improve the offense with adding Tanaka. They'll always have the option to trade one of them for a bat but if you don't want to severely overpay for offense then you might as well improve your pitching in this particular scenario.

I think it's a safe bet that if they were to get Tanaka that Perez or Holland could procure a DH or COF.

Thats awesome we got Russel Wilson. Now the Rangers can make a serious push for next years Super Bowl.

But seriously, I can see him maybe getting a call up when the roster expands to do a some Prince running, I mean pinch running. We might need someone new for that now that Gentry is gone (I'm pretty confident we have several other speedsters on the farm though). Still september call up happen around the same time as training camp, so we may never see him but I got to admit, I really like the guy.

I could be wrong but I pretty much just see the Rangers resigning Cruz, adding a little depth to the bench and pen, and maybe a slight possibility of a blockbuster trade for Price or bid for Tanaka. But that last thing only only give a very small probability of happening. I honestly don't think the rest of the off season will be as huge as we are all hoping for but just trading for Prince, re-signing Cruz, and retaining Rios from last year should boost the offense some. Sure we lose a little offense from Kinsler but I think you pick up more in Prince overall.

You could be right. I sure would hate to lose one of those guys. Perez whose potential is just being tapped and his salary very club friendly and Holland who overall did a very good job last year and has gone through what Perez is getting ready to go through.

Well stated and makes perfect sense to me.

And it's not like he doesn't have baseball talent either.

Gotta give up something to get something. I know that when Volquez was first traded I was very taken back, but I think that one worked out well. However this would be less of a risk vs risk trade. It would be proven vs proven.
