I have been meaning to post this for a while but I don't think there is any doubt that Richard Sherman is the best CB in the NFL right now.

Since Richard Sherman started playing in the NFL his record has been tremendous. Even in his rookie season he played at a level close to what Revis was at:

2011 Sherman vs Revis:
Revis: 45 tackles 4 INTs 35 catches allowed 41.2% catch percentage 508 yards allowed 1 TDs
Sherman: 48 tackles 4 INTs 38 catches allowed 46.2% catch percentage 493 yards allowed 3 TDs

As you can see, Sherman's stats his rookie year compared very well with Revis. In coverage, Sherman is just as good as Revis is.

But what really separates Richard Sherman from Darrell Revis is his ability to create turnovers. In 2012 in addition to being even better in coverage than he was the year before, Richard Sherman had 8 INTs and 3 FF.

Richard Sherman's 8 INTs 16 games in 2012 were more than the 5 INTs that Darrelle Revis has caught in his last 33 games. The initial reaction I would expect in response to this is that Revis was thrown at less. But as you can see above, he was only thrown at slightly less than Richard Sherman.

One of the reasons why Richard Sherman is so dangerous to throw against is because his rookie year at Stanford he was a freshman All American at WR. If you have watched Sherman play on a regular basis you would notice that he makes incredible catches quite frequently playing CB.

Richard Sherman is the NFL's best CB and only seems to be getting better. In week 1 he completely locked down Steve Smith, who did not have a catch against Sherman covering him and if you watched the Sunday Night game last night you would see that Sherman completely locked down Anquan Boldin who the week before had 200+ yards against the Packers. Boldin looked like he was about ready to have a tantrum at any moment going up against Sherman.

As a Bears fan, Sherman is probably the only CB in the NFL I would take over Tillman.

Could you imagine if Tillman had Sherman's coverage ability? That player could legitimately win MVP. Too bad it doesn't exist.

Tillman's ability to create turnovers is just incredible. How the hell does a CB force 10 fumbles?

I was hoping for more disagreements on this.

My only problem with Sherman is that I feel like he is becoming more known for his mouth than his play on the football field.

After his rookie year I posted a thread on CBS saying he was a top 5 NFL CB and should have been given the Pro-Bowl nod over Brandon Browner and got blasted. Seems like people don't disagree now.

And remember what all the talking heads gave the Hawks draft for those two years?

C's and D's.

Unfortunately I don't agree with the whole "any publicity is good publicity" thing.

He makes himself and the Seahawks the NFL's villains. I love his play, but I don't like the negative attention he brings to himself.

After seeing Sherman play his rookie year I became one of his biggest advocates but I will be honest and say that I was scratching my head when the Seahawks drafted him. It is incredible the player he has developed into since coming into the NFL.

Having 2 great safeties behind you, not shadowing #1 WRs, having a great front 7 in front of you sure helps though

I dont believe it is really negative,he likes Carroll and the Hawk franchise,we gave him and Browner,Kam etc a chance to excell and they did and do,this team is a players team they want to play hard and are given every opportunity to compete for a spot no matter who they are or where they were drafted.

This is true but safety play is bigger in a cover-2 type scheme, the Seahawks predominately play man to man.

Also last year outside of Chris Clemons the Seahawks struggled to get a great pass rush going, which is why they added Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett. I don't think his supporting cast is any reason to take away how outstanding he has been in coverage and his uncanny ability to go up and pick balls off.

Marketing himself to what demographic?

Well for one his bashing of Bayless, his taunt's to Brady,he is making a name for himself because whether many wish to believe or not people were over looking the Seattle Legion Of Boom and Sherman was like "Hey look over here you fools"

If Sherman didn't play for my team I'd hate him for being such a punk always talking trash.

He backs it up but I still think it's not a classy thing to do. He acts like a thug. Having seen him on TheRealRobReport I know he's actually a really chill dude but he makes himself look bad IMO.

Sad thing is I think instead of forcing people to take a look at his play people just associate him with talking smack.

His destruction of Skip Bayless was great but Bayless did have a good point that his trash talking makes people look at his mouth instead of his play.
