Haha
I never thought for a second the Cowboys would take him. Think about it in retrospect though...make the offense Lamb, Pickens and Turpin on the outside and make Warren the TE. Or take Turpin out on 2 TE sets and have Warren and Ferguson as the two TE's. I love Booker, but I can find a guard quicker than a mismatch like that kid

I won't miss that dumb shaking his head look by McCarthy this year after another dumb penalty. Glade for a new beginning.
It was mind boggling that some fans wanted him back for the 2024 season and utterly ridiculous that a few still didn't see the need to fire him after last season and thought he played no role in that disaster.

maybe
not likely.

you're still mad i was right about the draft direction. We took a fat boy and RB day three. Thankfully not a TE or QB in the first two days.

who said reactionary?
Where were you right about the direction?
You said a WR and DB in the first two rounds. That's 0-2.
You also said 5 starters. Jarntt and I both said a great draft is 2 starters and 2 rotational. Glad to see you have come around to common sense and amended your "5 starters" Bullcrap down to "5 rotational", which is close to what 2 and 2 adds up to. Now if you can backtrack off your Mazi love fest you'll really be cooking

100% right.
It looks like for the present, Jerry is giving Schotty a fair shake. Schotty had a lot of input in the types of players they drafted and the guys they went after in FA. I feel like Schotty will hold up his end in he gets what he needs
The one thing the Jones Boyz do right is they listen to the scouts and coaches on draft day. Now we as fans all know that's because they don't know any of the players themselves, but they still do it...usually. That's nothing new or that just started with this group of coaches. Sometimes that leads to listening to Marinelli and getting Taco and sometimes it pays off. Mostly though, Will McClay is absolutely the one in charge and then Jerry rubber stamps everything. If you watch the war room during the draft you can see it and you hear it from all the media guys around the team afterwards as well. It's clear when Will makes a case for something that's what they do. BUT, they listen to the coaches also which is of course how it should be. Schotty and the two Coordinators all come off as very smart people. I don't know how good their scouting ability is but I'm thinking they can pick out a football player from his tape a lot better than any of us and probably better than McCarthy who just looked lost half the time. They are the ones who need to play out the hand that is dealt so they need a voice as well.

I also like, no love, that they went away from need and went back to BPA which is another sign McClay got his way. As everyone knows I am an annoying, broken record calling for that over and over. You can tell it was a concerted effort after the last couple of 1st round picks because they told us a million times before, during and after the draft how 'you get into trouble by forcing needs' - again Will got his way. By all accounts from the media draft guys they were taking WR if McMillan was there but then didn't force it when he wasn't and surprised everyone with a nuts and bolts pick that they knew might be criticized, but they took their guy. It also seems that the OSU RB Judkins was the top round 2 target if there, but again they didn't force the need when the guys they liked were off the board.

That is how you draft IMO. Needs are to be filled in free agency. Drafts are for picking your board. If they nail the top 3 picks the draft will be a success even if the others are all misses and history tells us most day 3 picks more than likely will be. I would guess you usually get around one guy 5th round or later who is on the team in year 3 and most of those are backups? But once in a while you find a Bland. Hopefully Blue or one of the other guys will be our Bland this year :hope:

Spot on.
It was clear that the last two years, the Cowboys went away from BPA in round 1 and Jerry mandated DT and LT, and that led to the Mazi bust and the disappointing season from Guyton who wasn't ready. That's how one of the best drafting teams in the NFL has two subpar drafts. They got back to letting Will run it and Jerry rubber stamp it this season. That works

I am in wait and see mode with Guyton. He could still develop into a solid player. I think they got better OL coaches on the staff now. Solari was terrible.

Mazi has had multiple coaches and has not really improved yet.

I'm thinking the coaches haven't defined either at this time

I agree with you.
I do think Guytons immaturity last year means that he has a short leash this year. The new staff cares about heart and effort in addition to talent, that amateur hour crap Guyton pulled last year will get him a seat on the bench watching Richards if he doesn't grow up. The positive for him is, he has all the talent.
For Mazi, I think the best thing they can do is get his weight back up to around 340 where he played in college and at least turn him into a run stuffer. Even when playing lighter he is slow off the line, and he can be blocked by one guy. They can't wait on him all year. He should have camp and preseason to prove himself and that's it

Guyton certainly has the length to be a good tackle. He just needs more reps. I agree about Mazi. Fatten him up and see what happens. This is a critical season for him. JT may push him.
