Contending will largely depended on if they hit with their 2025 draft and if they did how quickly those guys get up to speed.

Offensively the team isn't radically different than the 2023 one and is good enough to contend but the defense is a complete unknown right now.

Saleh is a massive upgrade at DC over who they had last year but the defense is going to mainly hinge on the DL guys draft this season and how they pan out.
We now have serious talent on defense, assuming our draft picks pan out. What we lack at the moment is depth on the defensive side.

They will have to now cut their entire team and are in complete cap hell all because of this Purdy contract!

Or not....

Sources: 49ers make Warner NFL's top-paid LB
Prior to the Niners signing Purdy, the Niners had over $60 mil in cap space. The cap is exploding next season bc of the new TV deals so the idea that this contract will negatively affect the Niners is a farce.

Too old. Kittle is 32, I think CMAC is cooked (2023 was I think his final year), Williams is gettin' up there as well.

The one big thing is they'll have Aiyuk back in hopefully full capacity.
Kittle is still the best TE in the league. Look at his numbers the last two years. Expect Kittle to stay as WR1 in this offense. He's Purdy's go-to guy.

I’ll take Bowers, LaPorta, and McBride over Kittle. And why are you saying “still” when Kelce has been the best TE in the league for most of Kittle’s career?

I think Bowers is the best TE in the NFL at the moment, and Kelce is the TE with the best career that’s still in the league.

Don’t get me wrong. Kittle has been a great player. He’s never been the best TE in the league.

Rams beat thrm in the postseason when it matters.

And it wasn't 9 straight, it was which ended in 2020. Rams have won 3 straight, right now
49ers won in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 regular seasons. They won week 2 in 2023. Yes niners won nine straight regular season games. As for that playoff game, the 49ers played them a third time and the second time in LA within a month. It's not easy to beat a team three times in a season.

49ers didn't win the division in 2021 because of one person who had their number...Russell Wilson.

I think McBride and Bowers have something to say about that.

Yah. Some other team would've Cleveland Brown'd it the same.

There's always a simp out there. I mean Moab it's just how it works.

Whatever. I'm glad the simp was the 49ers in this case. Now I mean they simped on Lance and recovered from it, so maybe they can pull it off again. Easier to recover from loss of draft picks than contract guarantees. History shows highly unlikely.

This was great news for Seattle fans. I said this for the last 1-2 years (during the 2023 overrated season) as well saying I was praying the 49erse would sign Purdy to some dumbass contract... I got my wish today. If I'm wrong, you know I'll eat it here... In the moment, I'm celebrating and have already got your friends/parents drunk tonight. We'll call you around 11PM.
I mean, to be fair, the Browns simped on a guy a dozen or so teams wanted and that list of QB salaries showed why they were willing to guarantee his deal. If the guy played as those who went after him expecrted they'd have been glad to pay it and he'd be way underpaid.

As to Purdy....had to do it if SF.

Teams rumored to have shown interest in washed up Aaron Rodgers this year:
Rams, Raiders, Saints, Giants, Steelers, Vikings, Browns, Titans, Seahawks
Means absolutely nothing but if it makes you feel better go ahead and roll with it. LOL

Is Rodgers coming off an elite level season the last time he played, still a couple years from his prime with teams willing to offer multiple first round picks for him? Guessing you made some of these up as nothing credible suggesting the Browns had any real interest in AR.

Massive fail on that analogy.

Man there's no doubt as a whole since the return we have been a complete disaster. Hell, pretty much since early 70s.

But I wouldn't put those seasons on THIS regime any more than I would credit them for Paul Brown's success.

Most of the rumors of teams supposedly pursuing Watson were not credible either, at best teams were kicking the tires to see if a steal of a deal could be had for a malcontent, who was demanding a trade while being investigated for sexual assault and facing a suspension or worse, maybe even criminal charges. Leave it to the Browns to sell the farm for him.

Huh? we knew of a number of teams who asked to meet with him (he turned down many) and we know of at least 4-5 with whom he met.....all willing to offer at least 3 firsts.

also when offers were made was already known would not even indict him on criminal charges. still a massive fail on your part. But my apologies on this thread being hijacked and will get back to the topic.

Still think SF was right to offer Purdy a huge deal.
