There was honestly a line I kept waiting for in this episode. When Maester Aemon was talking with Sam in the library, I was expecting Sam to say something along the lines of "You're wrong about duty, Maester. Love is not the death of duty, it's the start of it." Or at least somewhere in the episode I thought he was going to say that.

That would have been great! It definitely seems to apply for Sam.

Yeah they definitely alluded to the fact that it's not strictly followed or enforced, but it was still being implied that they were breaking the oath. Whereas Sam seems to be the 1st to suggest that it's not breaking the oath at all.

Good point.

Though to be fair, we didn't get to spend much time with the guy in the harness that got flung down the wall after the explosion to hear his perspective.

Is there a reason why they wont let the northerners pass through the wall? Is it just because they know they would create havoc elsewhere?

I am fine with the episode running long but the extra scene at the end of the credits was just mean! If I didnt want to find out a location I would have missed it!

Just an amazing episode. I figured the Tyrion & Jon Snow storylines would resolve but not that they would cram in so much else.

Spoiler alert...

- Tyrion's progression has been impressive. Starts as a clown, builds up to saviour of KL, showing honour and cunning on the way, followed by tragedy and potential martyrdom. Now he's emotionally damaged and cynical. Can't wait to see where he goes next.
- Did not expect Stannis to show up North of the Wall... How did his troops get there? Loved the scene between Snow and Mance.
- Bran Stark. Wowzers. Really implying that the supernatural elements will be upped a notch next season. What did the dude mean by "You'll fly"?
- Khaleesi realizing it's a lot harder to govern then conquer. Still a pretty meh second half of the season for her. Hope they combine the storylines soon.
- KL should be a mess next season. Who's in charge? Power vacuum?
- Did not expect the Hound / Brienne fight. Nice bonus. At least the Hound didn't go out to an infection but had to have played a role. And Arya is ice fucking cold.
- Mountain Clegane going Bane mode next season? For a second I thought he was dying and that would be Tyrion's salvation.

Great episode and just a fantastic season.

A great episode and a great season all around.

I was really hoping for a huge shocker to close out the season (very end of Book 3 for the book readers) but I guess that will come next season. Ughhh waiting sucks! That being said, after Stannis, Onion, and Red Witch didn't show up at the Wall last week I figured that wouldn't happen until next season, so I'll call that a wash.

Brienne vs. The Hound was great! I know a lot of book readers don't like a lot of the changes (I only dislike omissions but never complain about any additions that I recall). This interaction didn't happen in the books but I was hoping for it, and was disappointed by the fact it never happened in the books. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised when it happened. I think the infection he got a few weeks ago was a red herring for the book readers like myself.

that whole scene was pretty amazing.

question going back to season 3. When the Red Wedding occured, one of Robb Starks top commanders left just before the massacre to take a leak outside, did he die too? also did Robbs cousin who got married also die? I thought we would learn their fate this season.

So Jaimie and Cersai are in full control now? I dont think the hound will die, guy is too stubborn
