Probably a more realistic scenario than many of us are expecting.

The only things I'd change are I'd keep France at first as he's solid defensively, I'd prefer someone other than Frazier at second and I'd really rather move on from the Kelenic/Trammel/Lewis experiment.

Two other realistic candidates that I haven't really heard linked to the Mariners are Jose Abreu and Michael Brantley. Brantley is a Bellevue native and his dad played for the Mariners. They're not long-term solutions but I think they'd both really help the team the next few years.

I would rather not see Ty France at 1st base in 2023.

mainly due to defensive range concerns with the new anti shift dealio beginning next season. 1st basemen are going to have to play slightly deeper and shade a tad more to 2nd base side to keep ground balls outs from becoming base hits thru the infield. i just do not think he has quick feet nor the athleticism to cover as much ground as most 1st basemen.

next reason is his durability. He lacks the everyday player grit that alot of ball players have.

I would rather see him as the clubs steady DH in the line up ( batting 5-6 hole, no base path sloths in the top 4 spots )

Or trade him off if need be. I think we saw near ceiling with Ty France 2022 numbers. His super hot early start 2022 was a fluke over a small sampling of at bats.

I would rather add a rock star single outfielder and a MLB average 2nd basemen and 1st basemen vs 2 lower tier outfielder adds and an avg 2nd basemen.

The eeny meeny miny mo of DH all of last season was a distraction to the line up as well as club house jinx.

Jerry gonna have to drop some coin the next few months, should be interesting

I like Nimmo too but, imo, he's a bit too fragile for a 5-year commitment, which is probably what it would take. I'd rather they trade for Amed Rosario. Rosario is an FA after next season so it wouldn't cost too much to get him from Cleveland. Cleveland, a low-payroll club, probably won't want to pay Rosario what he will command for the third time through arbitration. And who knows? By the end of next season, maybe one of our fading AAA outfield prospects (Kelenic, Trammel, Lewis) will have shown enough at the MLB level to take over for Rosario in 2024.

RF Amed Rosario (R) (from CLEV for Winker and [maybe] a lower-level prospect in the #12-#15 range. Free agent after 2023)
SS Crawford (L)
CF Julio (R)
1B Josh Bell (S) (FA, 4 yrs/$68 mill). This guy is at the top of my wish list with everyone else a distant second
DH France (R)
3B Saurez (R)
C Raliegh (S)
LF Kelenic (L)/Trammel (L)/Lewis (R). I wouldn't mind punching in Haniger (3/$39) or Conforto (2/$25) here if the price is right but I don't have much confidence that the price will be right.
2B Frazier (L) (FA, 2 years, $17 mill)

lastly ... referencing April - May of 2023

If Trammel / Toro and or Kelenic are all 3 ( or even 2 of the 3 ) in the Mariners dugout on a regular nightly basis, we are in big trouble and the front office has really failed the fan base and the city.

If Ty France can bat .270 hit 25 HRs and drive in 80 runs and contribute all season long from the DH position, its a win for the Mariners.

if they play him at 1st base, he will miss weeks - months and suffer from injuries. and have lower offensive numbers when he does play

I heard a rumor that Braves have called at least 3 teams about Acuna Jr with Mariners being one of them. The podcasters who brought up the rumor said it was true but 0% chance M's get him. A man can dream.

Do the Mariners even have a package that could get him? I truly know nothing about him from last year.

Hollander at today's GM meetings:

1- It’s still early, though, and Hollander said “we’re not close on anything.” But in discussing how the Mariners are handling their interest in a talented class of All-Star shortstops in free agency while staying committed to 2020 AL Gold Glove shortstop J.P. Crawford, he at least kept the door open on exciting possibilities.

“We just want to be open minded to get better. I do think the great likelihood is that J.P. Crawford is our shortstop. He has been our shortstop, he’s the heartbeat of our team and brings so many attributes, both tangible and intangible, that are really valuable to our club. But we have not ruled anything out and I just think it would be a disservice to our team to rule anything out.”

Then he reiterated something that appears to be pretty important for Seattle.

“But I don’t anticipate J.P. not playing shortstop for us.”

2- “I actually missed Julio’s announcement because I was on the phone with a club talking about a trade, so I had to go back and rewatch it,” Hollander admitted.

The Mariners are in active trade discussions as today’s 5pm CT deadline to set rosters prior to next month’s Rule 5 Draft looms, and they’re showing a willingness to move left fielder/designated hitter Jesse Winker, reports Jon Morosi of MLB.com (via Twitter). As has been expected for some time now, the M’s have also discussed potential trades involving fifth starter candidates Chris Flexen and Marco Gonzales, Morosi further adds, though the team has not yet engaged in a scenario where Winker and one of those pitchers would be moved in the same package.

Could M's pull of another Winker/Suarez trade this offseason? If so, my guess would be with Brewers for Wong and Renfroe. Fills two needs and I am reading Brewers are looking to lower payroll.
