Conforto is interesting but can anyone explain why he is highly touted? I wouldn’t mind him being on the team at all, but he is 2 years removed but being worth a multi year deal. If he gets a 2 year deal it should be massively incentive laden.
I keep reading $17-19M per year on a 2 year deal. Huh?

That is a few dollars more..but its Scott boras..
So that is expected..I'm ok with it..but haniger
Would have to make close to that..
But if he is a dh..I guess he would outfield..
Maybe once..or twice.a week..or something..
So ok....so let say..haniger
.10 or 12 mil..with production bonuses..?????

If that is the case then no thanks. As a fan 10 for 1 year then ok. Sign a deal that is league minimum with incentives that can reach 20 million. Can’t take a year off after a crappy year and expect to get big deal. I will guarantee if he wants that contract he won’t be signed going into spring training. Boras is a prick but Conforto isn’t ARod or any top star that he can dictate on a club.

I think ulmax is the only one highly touting him. He seems like a gamble to me. But so is Haniger, at a higher annual price and longer commitment. Conforto's one advantage is that he is a left-handed hitter. If they are going to add a power hitter, I'd prefer it be a lefty or switch hitter. The middle, power part of our batting order is right-handed heavy right now.

I can go with 5mil..and production bonus up to 20 mil..sounds good..including his normal def ence

And haniger same..sounds good..only a bit under,.

.yes that is with production bonuses..and into the be playoffs.....

Same with conforto.up to 20 mil....

Both one year dreals..ok..with options for 2.. ok
With 10pct increase..ok..or make a new contract...

If you can get 60 plus hrs from those 2 ok..70 or 80 ok again...
Much with haniger would depend on
health I
But if he is not healthy .you need a guy maybe
At all Tacoma.

but white would do that..

And if Perez moves fast..it could be him as well

You need more like 400 hits because every team is going to pick up an extra 200 hits with the new limitations on defensive shifts.

I am not too worried about jerry clutching his purse all winter and not making a few improvements to the ball club via position players with greater upside than what we lost ( Haniger, Frazier etc )

he has proven to be very creative in the past and I think he pulls off a deal or 2 that fits and improves the club. He is aware as anyone what a crucial stage things are and pumping the breaks too early is a rookie mistake for a GM / front office.
Seems like you're a bit more optimistic than I am although I don't entirely disagree with you.

I've just been of the mentality that I would rather use money to bring in improvements as opposed to shipping off prospects for them.

But the facts are he had a small string of goods games and no injury mentioned. Then he struggled and injury is the reason. Then he takes hundreds of BP balls a night which isn't a cure for a wrist injury. I think people see him when he is good then automatically say he must be hurt when he struggles. Maybe it is so but everything surrounding it says no so that makes me believe fatigue. Legs? Mental? Not sure but done buying the he must be injured excuse.
France before getting hurt on June 23rd:

.316/.390/.476

After he came back:

.236/.288/.399

I don't think he ever fully recovered and they played him out of necessity. Pretty sure there were a few games he was out in early August after re-aggravating the injury but I could be remembering incorrectly.

Yeah it is weird, I read they reached out to Nimmo, but the only other real things are they linked to that Japanese pitcher and Jerry is trying to trade Flexen and Marco. Nimmo seems fine but I don’t understand if they aren’t willing to “overspend” on one of the SS but are cool with overpaying for a pitcher who IMO projects to be the number 5 guy if he signs with them. And I can’t see in any scenario do the Mariners get a significant bat with Flexen or Marco as the centerpiece.
I heard they were interested in some Japanese outfielder, but haven't heard anything about a pitcher.

It doesn't sound likely but Bogaerts makes so much sense to me. In the short term he could play second or shortstop, and once Suarez's contract expires we could move him to third.

Realistically if we're looking to flip Marco or Flexen for a second baseman, I think the best we're going to get is a mid-tier second baseman who might be a slight upgrade over Frazier.

I like Nimmo too but, imo, he's a bit too fragile for a 5-year commitment, which is probably what it would take. I'd rather they trade for Amed Rosario. Rosario is an FA after next season so it wouldn't cost too much to get him from Cleveland. Cleveland, a low-payroll club, probably won't want to pay Rosario what he will command for the third time through arbitration. And who knows? By the end of next season, maybe one of our fading AAA outfield prospects (Kelenic, Trammel, Lewis) will have shown enough at the MLB level to take over for Rosario in 2024.

RF Amed Rosario (R) (from CLEV for Winker and [maybe] a lower-level prospect in the #12-#15 range. Free agent after 2023)
SS Crawford (L)
CF Julio (R)
1B Josh Bell (S) (FA, 4 yrs/$68 mill). This guy is at the top of my wish list with everyone else a distant second
DH France (R)
3B Saurez (R)
C Raliegh (S)
LF Kelenic (L)/Trammel (L)/Lewis (R). I wouldn't mind punching in Haniger (3/$39) or Conforto (2/$25) here if the price is right but I don't have much confidence that the price will be right.
2B Frazier (L) (FA, 2 years, $17 mill)
Probably a more realistic scenario than many of us are expecting.

The only things I'd change are I'd keep France at first as he's solid defensively, I'd prefer someone other than Frazier at second and I'd really rather move on from the Kelenic/Trammel/Lewis experiment.

Two other realistic candidates that I haven't really heard linked to the Mariners are Jose Abreu and Michael Brantley. Brantley is a Bellevue native and his dad played for the Mariners. They're not long-term solutions but I think they'd both really help the team the next few years.

If Dipoto has plans to shop Crawford, he won't make that knowledge public. Crawford is the heart and soul of the team. If you publicly state that you want to trade [the heart and soul of your team], that could be a team-morale killer. Not really the feeling you want to be the white elephant in the room when camp opens up in February.

I don't think Dipoto is endorsing Crawford because he knows he can't pay an elite shortstop. I think he is endorsing JP because he believes the team needs Crawford's leadership. At least, I hope that is why he is saying it.
I completely agree with you but I wasn't insinuating the Mariners shop Crawford. I just don't think they should limit themselves from pursuing one of the top SSs on the market. Crawford is the heart and soul of the team, and as a leader he shouldn't have any problem moving to second if necessary.
