I've been around a lot of people who are like him personality wise. I don't see myself being worn out about it especially if he is helping my team win games. That is the part I don't understand with Seahawks fans. No QB has won more games to start their career than Wilson. I could understand this more if he was losing games and acting like this.

It's not that he wouldn't help us win games, but it's a team sport, and we badly needed to reload the talent apart from QB. Wouldn't have been able to do that in short order while paying Russ $40M a year. We'd be stuck in the perpetual 9-11 win range without picks high enough to make the impact we needed. Then what if he walks away anyway? Had to strike while the iron was hot.

All of this is a completely separate issue to his personality though.

I'm interested to see what Russ does now having an offensive minded coach and a GM that is about complete opposite of what Seattle has had recently in Schneider. To me the lack of talent around Wilson has so little to do with his contract and much more to do with the GM/HC messing up everything.

Let's just look over the last say 7 or so drafts and what kind of talent they have brought in...

2021--Hurt by trading away picks for a safety that really is a linebacker
first pick they made...D'Wayne Eskridge. Did very little in year one. Have to see what he can do moving forward.
2020--Jordyn Brooks--Ok starter so far but has a long ways to go to prove he was a good pick.
2019--L.J. Collier--Most were wondering if he would even make the roster this year
2018--Rashaad Penny--Have to see if he can continue how he finished last year, but so far his career has mostly been one injury after another.
2017--Malik McDowell--Wow what a bust
2016--Germain Ifedi--Again another swing and a miss

I get that some later round picks hit like Chris Carson and DK, but for the most part the roster is bare of talent because of the wasted draft picks. Throw in then the picks sent away for players that have not lived up to the hype with the trade.

So to me if I am looking at a list of reasons the roster has not been Super Bowl caliber after Wilson has gotten paid I would say Wilson's contract would be pretty far down the list. Yes it makes it harder and you cannot ignore the QB contract, but you also can't ignore how incompetent the GM has been.

I won't disagree there have been bad picks, but he's also the guy who drafted 5 Hall of Fame caliber players (Thomas, Chancellor, Sherman, Wagner, Wilson) so he gets plenty of leash in my book.

At the end of the day, Seattle found itself in the position of needing to stock quality picks, and the best way to do that was to use their blue chip, who may not have stuck around otherwise.

If Russ wins Denver a trophy, OK, you win the trade, but it doesn't mean hanging onto him would have netted the same result here. If he doesn't, and Seattle turns into a contender again in 2-3 years, I think that makes it a win in our favor. Time will tell, but at this point I'm not unhappy with the way things ended up.

Oh I get why Seattle made the trade and think it was probably the right decision especially considering the relationship between GM and QB. Get what you can while you can. I'm more pointing to it seems like so much blame for the shortcomings over these last 7 years is laid at the feet of Wilson when in reality he is the one that has been keeping a lot of it together in my opinion.

And as for the GM. I guess I am a bit more of a what have you done for me lately. I loved John Elway and his work to start off his time in Denver. It had reached a point though he needed to go. Too many mistakes along the way that led the Broncos going from Super Bowl winner to bottom-5 team in a hurry. Thankfully he made one final great decision in hiring George Paton.

Kind of like Seahawks fans saying that Wilson was on the downhill trend of his career and early huge success shouldn't be why he keeps his job shouldn't the same be said of Schneider? At least Wilson has continued to play like a top-10 player at his position. I think there is an argument for Schneider being a bottom-5 GM the last 7 years.

I'm sure he was keeping the team above average with what he could do, but that alone is a problem when the goal should be winning a super bowl. The holes in his game became more glaring though as well, and the rest of the team wasn't going to be improved enough to get back to the 2013-14 years without the equity we got for him. Kind of a catch 22 situation.

What he could do was keep Seattle as a wild card team at best. That wasn't going to change by firing Pete and John then paying him to stay IMO.

My thought has always been a QB almost alone can get you to the playoffs. I mean look at the top QB's and almost every year you see them making the playoffs. The rest of the roster is what matters once you make the playoffs. QB's at that point become an even trade so then it comes down to roster and execution.

I guess to me this is where I disagree with your thought process. Look at the Ravens. Rarely are they picking top-10 in the draft yet they still find ways to get tons of talent in the draft. They continually get raved about for what they can do.

Look at Seattle when they had their couple of years of great drafting. It wasn't the earliest picks that made the biggest impact. In 2011 James Carpenter was an ok plyaer but it was the K.J. Wright in the 4th, Richard Sherman in the 5th, Byron Maxwell in the 6th picks that mattered more. The next year it wasn't Bruce Irvin as a top-15 pick that made the difference. It was the Bobby Wagner in the 2nd, Wilson in the 3rd, Jeremy Lane in the 6th picks that made a much bigger impact on them winning Super Bowls.

So I don't think you can blame Wilson again for the lack of talent.

Throw in 4 of the 1st round picks have been traded in the last 10 years. One for Percy Harvin who other than a great return in the Super Bowl did jack squat for you guys. Then the 1st round pick and Unger for Jimmy Graham who was ok but again never lived up to that trade. And then again with trading 2 1st round picks for Jamal Adams who has never lived up to that on top of handing him a huge contract.

Heck honestly this last draft I was not the biggest Charles Cross fan at least that high in the draft. Loved the Mafe, Walker, Lucas, and Woolen picks though and think they will end up being a bigger part of the core moving forward than possibly Cross.

I expect the Broncos to come out and execute the offense well - this kind of thing is what Hackett excels at. The defense - I'm less sure about.

You guys are probably my favorite group of fans over here, but game day is game day :)

No one knows Russ's weaknesses like Pete.....and to think your offense is gonna be a well oiled machine after not playing at all together in the preseason is a big ask. It's gonna look clunky, choppy. Big plays will be made but Pete in primetime is hard to beat. Hawks get this one, then you'll get rolling. I don't care for our corners right now, super young and inexperienced, but I don't like your receivers either. If you pounded the rock, I think it's easy W for the Broncos but guess who doesn't like to do that......:)

Good luck fellas.

I quite agree that we won’t be a well oiled machine, especially on offense. (Sorry, Mingo.)

But do you think Geno Smith is going to lead you to 23 points? Maybe if your special teams get 21 points? I do think it’s going to be a mistake filled first game of the season. But I’m guessing it will be something along the lines of 20-10 Broncos.

No, Geno will not lead us to 23 points.....our running game will.

Billy Turner will be out this game. His knee is doing pretty good and likely back next week.

Hamler and Gregory are good to go.

Not everyone starts the season like Green Bay George.
