I don't equate someone inviting to camp to WANTING HIM. I think it's pretty desperate attempt by you to claim it does.
What you tried to do was instead of saying what is obvious...they signed him you instead said invite to camp.

But even if you want to try and downgrade his signing to an invite to camp (by being signed) the team who invites him wanted him.

Brings back memories of when the Steelers traded AB... I was pounding the table sayin it was ridiculous they couldn't retrieve a 1st or 2nd Rd pick from anybody... But in the end, those 3rd & 5th Rd picks ended up being very sexy. They turned those picks into Diontae Johnson & Zach Gentry. DJ is a top 10 WR, and Gentry has been a decent contributor as a blocking TE.

In hindsight, most of the driving frustration in that equation was my disdain for Brown. I was onboard with the Steelers holding his rights & making him ride the pine or forcing his dumbass to retire out of spite.

Moral of the story is... Get the best deal out of trading someone while you can before their stock plummets.

Johnson is a top 10 WR in the same way that Baker is a top 10 QB.

Lol

Come on now
He thinks it ruins his narrative to say what I would guess everyone else here knows...if made a FA someone would sign Baker (and he likely has more than one suitor) because.......someone would want him.

For $19 mil AND assets? That might be another story.

Agree with this, though when it comes to Baker his stock has badly dropped because he was hurt and/or had a bad season. Thinking waiting offers a better chance for his value to rise (if could see he's healthy, maybe?).
Every situation is different. Steelers were pinned in a corner with AB; staring down the barrel of surrendering $22-23 million in (dead) cap to a WR that would NOT play for them. Browns aren't necessarily pinned in a corner with Mayfield. Most team 'allot' a higher percentage of cap to tie to their QB vs skill positions like WRs. Mayfield has a hit of $18m or so. Not much of a detriment to their team, other than it is making it difficult to sign some FAs they wanted to retain. But they have options & can afford to ride out his market value while the DW situation plays out.

I get why they are doing it. But I also don't think they are ever going to sniff any higher offers than they MIGHT have already received. And also worth mentioning, maybe they scared too many teams off with not being shy about their asking price.

It's going to come down to an injury and or Deshaun suspension.

100% agree.....though cannot imagine they are asking for too much. Would think at this point they'd take a 3rd rounder if team would pay his entire salary. But who know, they may think they can get more. And, sure, also might be willing to take anything if team would pay his entire salary.

Fight me.

10th in rec yds
5th in rec

With a dinosaur for a QB operating behind a bottom 5 OL, and a mickey mouse OC...

His average cushion of 4.6yds was lowest of all WRs, and yet he still averaged 3.2 yds or separation. That's insane. Teams pressed him at the LOS a lot, and he still thrived.

Both the Browns & Mayfield are making the trade more difficult, or at least trickier to achieve. Browns want to maximize their return (& return on their 1st overall investment), and Mayfield is going into the final year under contract & probably wanting to maximize an extension along with the trade.

This is a really tough trade to pull off to make all 3 sides happy.

You are absolutely dreaming there.

There is no way a team is going to take on his entire salary. Mostly because no one has that much space left under their cap (dont be fooled by cap space you see right now....none of it includes rookie contracts yet). And there is no way someone is going to pay a 3rd for a guy everyone knows the Browns dont want on their roster.

And I say that entirely knowing that 16 months ago I would have said that there is no way Carson Wentz goes for more than a 3rd rounder. And he has been traded not once but twice for more!

I just cant imagine a team bidding against themselves at this point in the offseason.

Not sure that's entirely true. I think the main problem right now is no team wants his 18m contract. The Browns gotta be willing to pay some of that if they want a team to trade for him.
Think prior to the draft the Browns could of moved Mayfield for a deal like Bridgewater to Bronco's last season. Panthers paid 17 out of the 20 million due Bridgewater and accepted a future 6th round pick for him. Not a lot difference between Bridgewater and Mayfield. However it seems the Browns over played their hand and teams went another (cheaper) direction to fill the gap at QB and so here we are.

honestly I think nobody wants to pay 18 mil if they didnt have too. Thinking they could get Mayfield at a discount or if the Browns just released him. Think Mayfield got stuck in the waiting game by both sides.
I think Mayfield will work well with Pete Carroll & Carroll's rah rah approach to players. So when Lock & that other guy dont impress, the Seahawks will blink 1st against the Browns & take the contract off the Browns hands.

If Mayfield ends up on the Seahawks I'm really going to want to hurt someone or something. Even if they simply get him as a FA.

I just hope some team is willing to trade for him. Don't wanna see BM just released. But wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens.

Mayfield playing in Seattle seems to make sense.

But PC already said the team's not interested in him. But PC also said they wouldn't trade Wilson.

If the Seahawks go with Lock then they wanna lose a lot next season to get a high draft pick in '23.

Living in Broncos country I've seen enough of Lock to know he's no teams long term answer at QB. He's not starting QB material.

Okay how bout dis?

The Browns pay the majority of his contract for next season AND throw in free lifetime tickets to the Rock & Roll HOF for the entire Allen family? All the Browns would ask in return is an 8th round pick. :heh:

dont worry.
Pete Carroll isnt a sand bagger. He wants to win. He will try to win.
He will go get Baker when push comes to shove.
Baker is a type of guy Pete would like to have on the team
Seattle will save the Browns from releasing him
Right guys?
