I mean, he has a near 1,000 game body of work in the major leagues to assess his ability off of. I agree that he is certainly an upgrade, though. That and we didn't even give a top 20 prospect in our own system.
It's a pretty damn important pickup. Nobody besides Kopech has been worth a damn setting up for Hendricks and he's limited in how much he can pitch. In the post-season we can go Kopech/Tepera/Hendricks and not have to rely on Bummer/Ruiz/Crochet.Here's a bit more detail:

That fat bastard David Wells had like 300 starts before stinking up the joint for us. I’ll wait and see what any player does while donning the White Sox uniform before assessing them. Too many don’t live up…That said this guy is low risk filler so any kind of upside we get is gravy.
He’s an average player who is having a strange power surge this season. Gold glove is nice on a resume in a 60 gm season. This team needs an offensive difference maker either at 2nd or right field. Doesn’t look like we are going to get either. All the other top teams are adding major assets. Sox are sitting on their hands and just hoping the offense can get hot in the postseason. No an ideal strategy imo.

Robert coming back is like a new player
Two guys with experience at two spots that needed fortification and look who we gave up to get them. While I've agreed that neither trade was anything eye popping, they were also no brainers that did virtually zero damage to our farm.
Expecting robert, eloy, and and even grandal coming back and being themselves is asking too put imo. 2 coming of serious injuries and a catcher coming back from a knee surgery. If they do that would be fantastic but this deadline, to me, just exposing a cheap ass owner. Teams are eating players contracts to give up lower level Prospects. I still think the Sox drafting is a major issue too. Where is the depth? It’s great that your first rd picks and international signings are hitting but the depth in the farm is extremely thin for being terrible for so long prior to last yr.

Kimbrel is legit, and under contract for next year too. Sucks to lose Madrigal but not for this year and is that position really so hard to fill? I like this deal. Pitching is king in the playoffs.
