the Lakers obviously chose to pay Harrell over Kuzma.

Kuizma's days appeared numbered. He was hyped by so many people and clearly fell short.

I don't know about that. They didn't have to pay him this year. Admittedly, it's hard to know exactly what to do with him. He showed improvement over each of his first 2 seasons. But he was inconsistent last year (although his defense improved).

The question is was he inconsistent because he was a young player trying to learn to play with 2 superstars (something all star vets like Bosh and Love struggled with), or is that just who he is?

I think they're giving him this year to show more improvement or they'll move on from him. I just wonder, with all of the new additions, if there will be the minutes available for him to prove it.

I don't know about that. His shot is/was pretty ugly and he's certainly not likely to ever be an elite 3 point shooter. But if he can consistently hit around 35-36% of his 3's, that will be enough to keep teams from sagging off of him.

He's young and only has 3 seasons under his belt, so it's too early, imo, to say for certain where he's likely to get to. He may be similar to Brandon Ingram. For the first couple of years he looked like he could be a bust or at least not live up to his draft status. Now he's an all star with a max deal.

Whatever happens with Lonzo's 3 point shooting...he has to get that free throw percentage to at least 70% or he's never going to come close to living up to his draft status.
Kidd sucked when he came into the League. And developed into a solid outside shooter.

Marion had an ugly and awkward looking shot but he turned into a solid shooter also.

No reason Ball can't. Especially, since he was a good shooter in college. The only difference is in the pros its a bit farther back. The 3 point line that is.

Trade Kuz at the deadline.

I agree that he can improve and so far he has. It's entirely up to him. He just has to keep putting in the work.

At the least, he gets credit for working on it and improving rather than just refusing to shoot it like Simmons.

it was always going to be tough to convince him to play on the RFA tender this year - and wait - then just give him the deal. It takes a huge chunk out of their cap space doing it this way, but it would have been tough expecting him to wait until next year.

Now their cap space will be significantly decreased.

its not impossible at this point, but its more unlikely.

24-30 aint gonna be enough for a big time guy.
agree he should have signed...he's much better than I thought but not the top end max type guy who should mess around and take shorter deals.

Maybe. Depends on how he's playing. Keeping him is a bit of a gamble for the Lakers. If he plays well, he will increase his trade value, but he still has that small contract. If he doesn't play well, then they are either going to be stuck with him or have to settle for trading him for a couple of picks.

Maybe Whiteside wants to win? If he signs.....he is getting most of those 25mpg and Gasol is getting 5-8mpg.

The Lakers didn't get Gasol to play him 5-8 minutes per game. He's too good and fits too well for that to happen. I like Whiteside, but if Marc Gasol is only playing 5-8 minutes, it will mean that he has suffered a "falling off a cliff" type regression.

I disagree.

Gasol is better fit. The role you want these guys to play is not a major one offensively. Smarter players tend to make better role players because they understand where they fit.

Gasol is one of the smartest big men in the league. Whiteside is not.

I think Gasol wins that position battle rather convincingly because he will compliment the Laker stars better than Whiteside would.

Yeah, you my be right. I like Gasol, but he's 35. He hasn't exactly been injury prone and athleticism isn't exactly what he was known for anyway. But 35 is still 35.

Basically, it would be smart for the Lakers to have him on the roster and available. But not smart for him to have himself on the roster.
Lance spinning his wheels like he did a few months ago when he just wouldn't let the topic go.

I think ideally you would want another serviceable 5 to limit Gasol’s role in the regular season to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Let him miss games here and there, limit the minutes to 15-20.

Then he gets more in the post season.

Just think you would be better served to a serviceable body who views himself as a role player.

True. Not sure who's still available that fills that role. That's where having Dwight back would have been good. But he played well enough to get a little more money and a bigger role. Can't blame him for taking that this late in his career.

I am spinning my wheels?

I made like 5 posts about this topic. You probably twice that. Maybe more.

And like 4 different people have liked my posts about this topic, which indicates most probably tend to disagree with you.

I don’t really know either.

Ironically, Javale McGee would have been perfect.

Oh well.

Yep.

That is really all the Lakers need. Any of those would do fine.

Lol but these same people won't call the lakers winning a title a fluke (it wasn't) but you can't say one team in the finals run wasn't a fluke while the others was especially considering Miami never faced and elimination game or trailed in a series until the finals. It's different if they were like the nuggets and kept falling behind 3-1 only to come back and win the series

Well, it's not like they had to beat the team with the best record in the NBA or anything.

Oh wait...
