It sounded like Rogers was reluctant to bring Don back even for this season as there were multiple reports in the summer that they were getting ready to move on from Grapes. Some speculation that Don was asked to apologize and he has held his ground on that aspect.

Daryl Evans has some decent threads
Unfortunately you need to watch the Kings in order to see him
My wife loves the way Daryl dresses for games. At the practice ring he is a shorts at tee shirt guy.
Great guy. We were sitting in the front office waiting for someone and he comes in the door, sees a stack of Red Bull cases in the lobby; picks up the stack and takes it to the locker room. I am sure they have guys to do that, but he saw something that needed doing and did it. Not too good to do grunt work.

I love Don. I have an autographed picture of him and the 1st Blue somewhere.

But haven't seen him in over 2 years as I no longer watch hockey much....

This beyond "triggers" and upsets me.

According to Multiple reports. He has been Fired.

This guy is a ambassador for the right way to play hockey. I can't count how many times he go "listen kids..." when showing a clip of a smart and good play. He used to be against showboating.

All of this is gone. Legacy tarnished because why? He was trying to go a good deed for veterans and get people to buy Poppies.

He tarnished his own legacy over the last decade or so. He has scoffed at new safety rules and equipment. He has long had derogatory things to say about European players, even if he has eased up on that.

He bitched about players celebrating when he didn't like them yet didn't comment on players celebrating whom he liked.

He said exactly what he meant the other night and it got him in trouble. Oh well.

I am sure they can find someone else who shows the same clips all the time and tells everyone he told us so.

All Don had to say was "I see a number of Canadians walking around not wearing poppies and it bothers me" and nobody bats an eye as he has a valid point. Also, if Ron Maclean would have interjected/corrected Don and even gave him a chance to explain his comments/walk it back somewhat, it wouldn't have been so controversial. Alas, neither of that happened and in my opinion, Sportsnet had no choice but to let Don go.

He was an institution for decades, but had become a parody in the last five plus years (ten plus?).
Hasn't been must watch viewing for a hell of a long time. Certainly not worth that extra commercial break between credits and segment. How annoying was that!
Network has had to apologize for him time and again, put him on a delay, etc.

He's always been racist (Swedes, Russians, Frenchies, etc) and we've always collectively said "oh well, that's just Grapes".
Times have changed, and his attitudes didn't. Not just on the racism, but things like concussion risks etc.

He had a good run.

I'm hearing they are going to move up Headlines to the first intermission and add a 2nd intermission feature hosted by Sean Avery called Sloppy Seconds with Sean Avery.

I'll see myself out.

He won't stop being an ambassador for playing hockey unless he chooses to. This is just an organization deciding they disagree with a guy they employed and decided to no longer employ him. There will be a number of other opportunities for him to continue in the public eye if he wants it.

I agree he often said a lot of great things about how to play the game. But at the end of the day, the game has moved beyond him. Had he not pushed this time, he might have been on his way out anyway. The world has moved on from him. It's time.

Just deleted a bigoted and probably racist but true comment here. My apologies.
