Sometimes it is hard to tell when a post is in jest. But, all the same, several Nebraska posters seem to think the Huskers will win the Big 10 West this year (and possibly make a NY6 bowl game).

But in my defense I also thought they could go 15-0 under Mike Riley.

I have seen that as a hopeful, but not an expectation. I think you are confusing Hopes and dreams with expectations... there is nothing delusional about hoping for a division title....AG has been pimping nebraska most, maybe that is where you get that from? not sure. Predictions are not expectations just a random prediction....if you are talking about RA putting 25 bucks down on Nebraska to make it to the CFP well that bet will pay off huge if he is right but hardly an expectation lol 25 bucks at a shot of like nearly 2 grand....meh id do it if i didnt hate driving to iowa

Nebraska biggest hurdle to getting back to where they once were — recruiting. With little to no home grown talent — trying to beat the teams bringing in the best of the best recruits year in and year out is going to be extremely tough to do.
I said the same thing to Michigan fans because we only get a handful of top 100-150 recruits from our state.
When you rely on recruiting nationally — you have to beat out all of elite schools and you aren’t going to win many of those battles.

Life is much easier on schools who can recruit elite talent who were brought up fans of the school.

If that were true Florida, Miami, FSU, Tejas, Arizona, Ariz St, USC, UCLA, etc. etc. etc. would never fall on their faces.

It's more about culture, getting people developed, lined up properly, and winning. i.e. coaching.

Also two of the 22 best players ever nationally were Omaha boys in Johnny Rodgers and Dave Remington.

The '95 offense was 75% Nebraska kids. They just made very few mistakes, executed well, and punched punks in the mouth.

Rumor is that team was nearly able to read a Dr Seuss book once.
Lawrence Phillips was on that team.
He most certainly couldn’t.

However his backup is pretty well known. Another Omaha guy.

@kburjr can probably tell you who that was.

1995 Nebraska. Arguably the greatest CFB team of all time.
10 starters from the state of Nebraska.

Stolen from this article. It’s long.
1995 Nebraska and the myth of championship recruiting – Concerning Sports

Who was the last team to win a national championship without the luxury of a top 5 recruiting class?

You can believe this, but it isn’t a secret why the top teams are the schools with the best recruiting classes every year.

In today’s CFB, with high school athletes coming out bigger and stronger than ever before, because of all the specialized coaching and camps available to these kids now — seeing a team who isn’t pulling in top 5 or top 10 recruiting classes win a title isn’t going to happen often.

This isn’t a knock against the University of Nebraska. Michigan, to a lesser extent, is in the same boat. High school football in Michigan isn’t that good, but we usually put out 5-10 4 star guys a year and sprinkle in a 5 star guy every now and then. Nebraska is baron when it comes to elite talent though — this past year, they tied with Delaware and Rhode Island with 1 blue chip recruit.

To have to recruit the vast majority of your team from out of state means you are battling all the top teams with no advantage whatsoever. That isn’t a winning battle.

Elite coaches get top recruiting classes.

Alabama and Clemson aren't getting blue chippers because of where they are.

There are only a few elite coaches in a generation.

The last few years there have been 3.

Urbs, Saban, and Swinney.

Now there are only 2.

Saban and Swinney.
