Note to self.
Maybe re evaluate when the only person who you amuse is DTG?
DTG can be amused by anyone as an argue based on post not poster person.

Hell, I'll get a chuckle when the comment is meant to put me down sometimes.

Disagree.
The team gave the player the contract.
Player knows he can be traded before he signs.
If the team decides to trade, its on then to get equal value.
If player forces way out, often team gets less value in return.
Agree....but teams also know a trade kicker could be involved in a deal yet you seem to have an issue with it.

why not just say you think the contract applies only to the player and owners should do what they want?

It's funny because those two examples you gave, they (Lakers and Derozan) both got screwed for being loyal.

Exactly. As much as players, teams and even us fans like to talk about loyalty and how important it is...it isn't really practiced much and when it is, often ends up with someone getting screwed (and not in the good way).

No where in the contract does it say that they can't piss and moan and undercut the team. If you weren't being treated fairly at work and it improved your prospects to piss and moan then you would do the same thing. Why do people complain about players being spoiled brats when we do the exact same thing here in America. Third world countries struggle to have food, water and housing but here in America we bitch about the price of gasoline going up 2 cents or the size of our houses being too small. It's all relative and people are always going to improve their situation if they feel they need to, it's just human nature.
yep....complainers will complain.

Same circle.
One things to privately discuss to benefit both sides.
Quite another to become a distraction and force team to take .60 on the dollar...

And yes, they are in essence, forced.

I do agree that these things should be handled quietly.

While I like that the Lakers got AD...I don't like the way it was accomplished. Especially all of the crap that happened during the season.

The way it happened actually has kind of deadened a little bit of how excited I am for the season to start. It reminded me of the situation when Shaq was traded to the Heat.

Preferred destination is fine, but the team is under no obligation, imo, to trade him to where he wants to go simply to appease him. If it makes the most sense for everyone involved, then that works out great.

Agree 100%.

WTF?
Im for the trade kicker.
Its fair compensation, if agreed on.
Owner pays a price because he changed his mind for whatever reason for wanting the player on his team.

So, to be fair, if player changes his mind, he should be held to same standard.

You're too stupid to even understand how dumb you are. And I'll ask again. But you're a pussy & won't answer. Where's your outrage over all the Clevelanders in your own backyard that are steelers fans?

In your fucked up & limited mind do you think it's worse for a native NE Ohioian to be a Celtics fan or a steeler fan?

In a perfect world, but if player tells 28 of 29 teams he’s a 1 year rental, guess what?

Yeah, that one is a little difficult, imo.

On the one hand, it definitely hurts what a team can get in return.

But it also would help a team to not be giving up a lot of valuable assets for a 1 year rental.

Not sure how you get around that.

End of the day, neither side has loyalty.

As soon as the team decides the player is no longer "part of the plan" or they're ready to "move in a different direction", they move the player whether he wants to be moved or not.

As soon as the player decides the team is no longer "where he wants to be" or that he "can't win here", he starts looking for a way out.

The closest I've seen in recent memory to loyalty from a team, the Lakers gave Kobe a big contract for his last 2 seasons. While I agreed with it at the time, and still do...it also likely has a lot to do with why they have struggled so much the past few years.

The closest I've seen to loyalty from a player in recent years was DeMar DeRozan re-signing with the Raptors because he wanted to play there for his entire career. He's now a San Antonio Spur.
the contract does not state that the player has to consent to a trade. the team CONTROLS that- its part of the contract. The players rights under the contract is to get paid. The teams rights is to get a full effort for pay.

Players do not execute moves- front offices do. I n no way shape or form is there any duty of loyalty from a front office not to trade a player---- in fact- if the palyer is really worried about that- there is such thing he can negotiate called- guess what- A NO TRADE CLAUSE!

when a player signs a contract- there duty is to play to the best of their ability- no matter where they play or who they play for as long as its in the NBA. The owners duty is to pay the contract. There is no right of the player to get traded.

So you're a pussy? Already knew that, thanks for the clarification. It's funny that you don't have a backbone & refuse to answer a simple question.:pound: Not surprised though.

And don't forget at one time you were an Oklahoma City fan. Hypocrites like you will always be hypocrites.

I'd say Steeler of course but to be fair, something tells me he'd call a Steeler fan from NE Ohio a traitor if he/she was here.

But there is nothing in the deal that says he cannot ask to be traded.
