I think if you're moving Ghost it's for a 2C with a plan on signing Karlsson. If it's a legit 2C, I'm fully on board with that.

20+% of NHL goals are scored on PP. Our forwards think pass first on PP . Ghost is a shooting threat. I can only image how easy it will be to defend against Flyers PP with no "shoot first" threats.

He has had a good year every other year in his career so this is the season he is supposed to bounce back and if he does it will be good for us.
And if we shit the bed again this season his trade value will be extremely high at the trade deadline.

Which 2nd line center would you accept in a ghost trade?

Personally i would rather sign a dman like Tyler Meyers before Karlsson for 2 reasons. He wont break the bank like Karlsson and is a righty shot.

Ghost only had 4 PP goals last season which was tied for 111th place and our team was 23rd best in the league.

Not that im looking to push him out the door.Trading him is just a topic that a lot of NHL insiders are talking about.

His 4 PPG was 2 better than Giroux.... and put him at Tied for 3rd on team. As everyone has noted, the PP has to improve IMMENSELY to be a contender. Flyers need more scoring options, not fewer

This is true we do have to improve on our PP to be a contender. We also have to improve on our PK and our even strength to be a contender. IMO standing pat with a non playoff team wouldn't help us get to be a contender any faster.

Flyers need to make moves - on that I agree. I'd like to see more offensive minded players. IMHO coaching can improve the PK and overall defense. An old coach once said, you should never have a bad day on defense. It's a matter of discipline to the approach - to defense. You can't have 3 out of 4 players on the PK following the approach with one going rogue. 5 on 5, same thing. Everyone has a defensive responsibility... every minute, every game. That's about coaching, and intolerance for players that don't get on board, regardless of their "star" status.

Not a JVR fan.... In too many games, and in too many instances he was just plain lazy. Zero D. The game has moved past the era when a LeClair in front of the net was enough to get ice time.

I can agree with this but how do we explain that two of the coaches that weren't good enough for us to keep have 2 cup appearances with other teams in the last 3 years?

Can't tell you how many times we've had that convo here, we all agree JVR was not a great re-signing.

Not sure who posted it.... but a while back someone said 'winning teams have an identity'. I wholeheartedly agree with this. I'm not married to specifically what that identity should be (personally I like gritty play - and love Gritty), but the coaching staff and front office need to agree on the identity, and get the players that can play in that identity. Not sure pure gritty can win these days.

So Laviolette plays a wide open game - almost reckless abandoned. Your players need to be on board and be able to play wide open. Berube plays a very disciplined forecheck game. His players need to be 200' players (cough - not JVR).

IMHO Holmgren never got this. He always went after shiny objects, irrespective of it they fit into an identity. I have a lot of respect for Hextall and how he rebuilt the talent from the ground up. He obviously had a different timeline than what we (and front office) wanted. Never thought Hakstol would get us to a Cup, but I don't think Hextall brought him in for that.
