Cheap ass 49ers let a golden opportunity get away. What good is cap space if you won’t spend it? Sickening

Have to disagree. I wanted no part of AB ca$hing in one last time and mailing it in for the fat part of his career for garbage yards on a crappy team. Lots of Steeler WRs go from looking all-pro to mediocre after not playing with Ben.

The 49ers need to act like a rebuilding team, not like the Rams circa 2018. 2019 will be a throw-away season, so the team needs young talent, not aging, malcontent whiners.

An established team could have used him, but he couldn't have helped the Niners IMO.

Why is next season a throw away season.....Jimmy G missing the entire season?

Thought he was on pace to return....

He is, but I’m being realistic. The Niners are a mess right now, and they’re not gonna fix it in 1 offseason.

Obviously they wouldn’t give him a contract he wanted. Instead they tried to tag him over and over, while asking him to be the most used player in the NFL. I applaud Bell, even though I can’t stand him, for giving Pitt the finger and sitting out.

Also, if Bell is a product of the line, why tag him at all? Just trade him.

And with AB — you are kidding yourself if you think, no one wanted to trade for him. The Steelers didn’t want to trade him to an AFC team they’d be competing with. You think it was a coincidence the Bills and Raiders are the two teams we heard about, two of the worst teams in the NFL?

You can’t be that foolish. New England would have given you a first round pick for Brown, but no chance are they sending him to NE. The same can be said for a half dozen other teams. And just like with Bell — if they had issues with the guy.........trade him.

The Steelers got the absolute bare minimum return for two of the best players in the NFL.

Proof to back up any of these claims

Tate, traded for a 3rd.
Cooper, traded for a 1st.
Antonio Brown, traded for a 3rd and 5th.

Umm....what?! I know he ruined his value by his social media bullshit, same with Le'Veon, but I mean come on! Good riddance but I still wish we would've gotten SOMETHING out of this.

Just put it in perspective. We have what once was the best WR/RB duo in the league for 3-4 years straight. Bell and Brown. In 2019, all the Steelers will have to show for it will be 2 3rd round picks and a 5th. Ugh....
Be nice to Bell or he might screw you out of the compensatory 3rd round pick. :heh:

You don’t need it in writing. Are you saying, you think Buffalo and Oakland just so happened to be two of the worst teams in the NFL and they were the only teams making offers? Come on, I’d hope you were smarter than that.

You don’t think the Colts, with a ton of cap space would have given you a better offer?
You don’t think NE, with Brady on his last few years, wouldn’t have given you a better offer?
You can go down the line of top teams who have both cap space and need WR help — It is obvious Pitt was willing to take less to send Brown to a team they don’t have to worry about battling in the next few years.

It is even more obvious what Pitt was doing to Bell. Tag him — give him the ball 400+ times, if he gets hurt, who cares, we are only on the hook for one year. He made it thru, so we will tag him again and do the exact same thing, because who cares if only 2 or 3 RB’s ever, had seasons of 400+ touches because we are only on the hook for one year.
It is why I said I applaud Bell for sitting out, even though I don’t like the guy. Pitt wanted to try and abuse the system in place and in return, it makes Pitt look bad.

i think yes teams like the colts, who have a GM who has come out and publicly been against personalities and contracts AB and bell want, would not get involved in this. I also believe guys like belicheck are smart, and are only gonna bring in personalities they feel they can fix or work with. bell got paid out the ass in those franchise tags. He had a contract on the table giving him basically what he wanted, still turned it down, thinks hes better than gurley. I think alot of teams dont wanna pay a psychopath the most money in the nfl, with all his history of diva activity.......OBJ been rumored to be available for some time, curious what ur take is there? why no movement?

Ultimately this is a small loss for the Steelers, a small loss for the Raiders, and a good result for Brown. Once the Bills backed out of giving up high 2nd round pick value for Brown the trade market was always likely to be difficult. I don't think the Steelers could have gotten more at this point and waiting, (which would have included swallowing a roster bonus), would only have made the sour taste even more bitter. This trade is a decent result for them given the circumstances and alternatives. The Steelers are paying the price for a questionable contract that gave Brown too much money too early, and poor man management skills that allowed a minor dispute to blow-up into a full blown conflict. It's not the 1980s any more when players have no money. You can't push multi-millionaires around so easily. The Raiders have effectively given someone who might have ended up as a FA a bumper FA contract but lost a 3rd and 5th round pick into the bargain. They've turned a potential trade win into a net loss. The only one smiling is Brown. At least it's over.
