Whoa...Teryl Austin. I was excited the Bengals hired a DC from the outside when they picked him up last year, but his defense was a complete disaster. I'm not sure exactly what went wrong, but the players were often stuck in some sorta soft zone where it seemed they either forgot to cover the center of the field or nobody knew their assignments. The D still sucked when he left and Marvin took over, though they had a few good days as they were playing much more man-to-man, simple assignment football. Maybe he'll be better as a position coach.

Will fit in perfectly coaching the secondary in Pittsburgh.

Teryl Austin as the Senior Defense Assistant/Secondary Coach? As a DC in Cincinnati this year, they were 30th, as DC in Detroit, they were 3rd, 23rd, 13th and 21st. Not too impressed.
Bigger question is... What did those units rank in their secondary?

Well Mike proved his 1st year wasn't a fluke... It's time for the Steelers to pony up the dough.

One of the few bright spots in the secondary, even after a brief demotion this past season.

Eddie Faulkner named new Steelers running backs coach

Built-in chemistry with Jaylen Samuels but this guy hasn't coached RBs in 8 years. His official title at NC State was "Tight Ends/Fullbacks/Special Teams Coor./Recruiting Coor."
Pro's:
  • The way the RB position is evolving requires a multi-faceted position coach.
  • Chemistry with Samuels
  • Could be an assistant ST coach as well
Cons:
  • Zero NFL experience
  • 17 years coaching in NCAA.
  • Reading his bio on NC State it looks like he has more clout in ST coaching than RBs.

My take: Doesn't appear they dove very deep into candidates to replace a quality coach in Saxxon. No connections to PA whatsoever, so it deviates from the normal hires. Not a bad hire by any means, just an interesting one. Or uninteresting one. I still have yet to make sense of firing Saxxon, so it is what it is.

Side note... I think its bullshit to tab that 31st rushing rank against Saxxon. It wasn't his fault his coordinator wanted to throw the ball 50+ times per game. When the ground game was used the right way, it excelled.

Yeah, it's not how much you run, but the quality. What was the production per attempt?

It was really good this year. I think him being let go couldn't have had anything to do RB production, it must have been other factors.

In the end, two good coaches are gone, only Peezy fired for cause.

That's Tomlin's idea of accountability and changing the culture (that he built.)

Bottom 3rd if the league. 4.2 yds/att rushing . Tied with IND, OAK, BUF, & MIN. Teams are ranked 21st-25th.

I wouldn't think a 4.2 average would be considered bottom 3rd of the league. Long way from the days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

Ok... pure rushing yards, but what about when you consider the total RB yardage? Receiving yards is a big part of the RB game now.

Not sure where to find that sort of compilation stat as a team statistic. Would likely require a lot of stat compiling. But I do know Conner finished the season just shy of 500yds receiving (~497) and Samuels added another ~200.

Burnett wants released.

If he wants out, he should pay back his signing bonus, prorated.

He knew the position the Steelers needed him to play.

Lol because the position he was supposed to play he got beat by a rookie. Of course he wants out.

Bye Felicia.

Hilarious that the media is spinning that into the AB drama without saying anything factual. Good work Rapaport, per usual.
