Oklahoma-bound QB Spencer Rattler on Jalen Hurts' transfer from Alabama: 'I love it'

Phoenix Pinnacle senior quarterback Spencer Rattler has never shied away from competition.

So when news broke Wednesday that former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts was transferring to Oklahoma, the soon-to-be Sooner embraced the competition.

"I love it," Rattler said in a direct message when asked about Hurts coming to Oklahoma. "Jalen is a great player and I'm excited to get to play with him.

"It'll be great competition for sure."

Hurts figures to be the starter next season with a resume that includes a 26-2 records as an Alabama starting quarterback, leading the Crimson Tide in two College Football Playoff championship games.

If Spencer was an EE it would be hairier....I guarantee you.

He needs some time to mature physically.

There’s no chance he even approaches Mayfield and Murray numbers. Easily the worst thrower of the three. Interesting.
Murray and Mayfield are system QBs, Jalen will be just fine

I disagree. You can pretty much insert any starting D1 QB in that offense and they will put up ridiculous stats.

That defense will still lick major taint though........

You gotta love it when people say you can hand the keys to a Porche to anybody and they will turn out to be Mario Andretti...

Yep. Mayfield breaks the single season TD record in the NFL for a rookie while not even starting the first several games with the fucking Browns. Obviously a system QB.

What makes OU's system work is their OL. Always have the best OL in the country practically every year.

?????? Geezus, it wasn't that many years ago that OU fan was ready to chuck the O line.

It's been the last maybe 4 years they've good. There was a pretty rough stretch for a few years with injuries, defections and plain not playing well. One thing OU has going for it on the O line is the center, Creed Humphrey. True frosh and a beast, last year, and is only going to get better.

Dude lost only 1 game playing in your overrated, weak as fuck conference. IJS......

Oh look, another shitty ass Big12 team wins the Sugar Bowl against a SEC team that didn't care and thinks they are something.

Looking at this as just a college football fan, I like this for Hurts. Seems like a good dude and this may actually get him drafted! As a Sooner fan, I hope he kills it but outside of that, he deserves it and he couldn't have chosen a better system to be in.

Shhh. Let the same program who’s been owned by Maryland and haven’t sniffed a conference title in a decade think they’re officially back now man.

Ever since Stoops added Bedenbough to coach the offensive line it has been a real strength.

Tell us what’s so funny about that? Oklahoma has a pretty good shot at being a one loss team or better next year. What’s been holding them back from being able to get it done against a team like a Bama is a lame duck DC and defensive coaches. Riley jist hired a new DC and new defensive coaches. Hurts may very well get the opportunity to play Bama and if the defense can get it turned around may have a shot at it.

It's pretty funny bro. Your defense was among the worst in college football this year, but you had the best offense to make up for it in a conference with mostly bad defenses (Texas is the only one who can play any kind of D). Bama beat OU in the first quarter, and then just walked through the rest of the game. Bama should be as good or better next year, since they're mostly returning everyone, and replacing the few people who are leaving with excellent players. There's no reason to think Bama won't be a top 5 offense and defense like they were this year.

Riley hired a new DC from a team that was just horrendous on defense with far more talent defensively than OU has and against worse offenses than the Big 12. Maybe it could be improved this year, but you're crazy if you think they're going to flip from 120th or whatever they were on defense to top 25 (probably not even top 50). OU will definitely take a big step back on offense too. You're losing your stud QB, and while I'm the biggest Jalen fan out there, don't think he has the passing skills of Murray. You're losing your best receiver by a huge margin, and almost all of your offensive line, and since OU was in so much more shootouts (because of the bad defense), your backup linemen don't have the reps Bama's backups do. So your offense will likely still be solid, since you have so much talent, especially in skill positions, but not what they were this year.

So in short, Bama was much, much better than OU this year. Next year, Bama should be better and OU should be worse. Ergo, it's funny that Jalen could beat Bama at OU next year. That said, I really wish him the best and hope I'm wrong. I love Jalen, and we haven't played Oklahoma for a while now, and never in the championship. Besides, we already knocked out Ivan Drago in Rocky 4, and Rocky 5 was a terrible movie.
