Toronto isn't a place that players play to "take over baseball". That belongs to, in today's baseball, Chicago (NL), New York (AL), Boston, Houston and Los Angeles (NL). Every other team just isn't a place where any player can "take over baseball" whether it's due to the success of the team, the market, the fan base or a combination of those things.
only 2 of those teams have more world series wins then the Jays do in the last 25 years

The Jays will be big players when the time is right. Once these kids develop ownership will agai spend what it takes to bring another championship to Toronto

But they have more World Series wins than the Jays do over the last 20 years (well, barring the Dodgers).

That’s in theory though. I just gave you an example from just two decades ago the most marketable baseball player since the 80’s and he wasn’t in a major market.

I just cannot understand the appeal of signing Bryce Harper to a mega deal.

I get his OPS because he walks so much but one year over 100 RBI, plus power but not overly so....

Meh

Guess his marketability and the fact he's 25

Ok, but that's the exception, not the rule. You gave me 1 example and that's supposed to show me what, exactly? Griffey was an anomaly of his time, you more than likely won't see that again.

IMO, the legend far exceeds the actual production. Only once has he had a season where he broke 5 WAR.

For comparison, you could add up the WAR from his last 3 seasons, and you still don't equal Mike Trout's 2018 WAR.

Massively overrated.

That is fair and most likely the case but you can’t say it’s impossible.

All good points

Like I said the only upside is that maybe he hasn't peaked yet but a guy like Cabrera who started early was peaking at 25 and destroying Harper's offensive numbers.

Harper mskes an average team relevant.
He doesn't make a good team a winner, or he'd have done that at least once.
He didn't. If a team is good enough to win, they probably don't need Harper.

Harper would be a good add for any team but he's not as good as he should be or people think he is.

And part of that is injuries. It’s hard to imagine he’ll stay healthier as he ages.

All these NL teams making moves, but hey at least the Pirates shed a bunch of salary and bragged about how the team that lost the AL Wild Card won so many games with a low payroll!

It makes zero sense to deal for archer and follow it up like this.

Rangers wait for years and years for Jurickson Profar to put in a full, healthy season. When he finally does, all we hear all winter out of Texas is how they want to move him, and they finally do. And don't get too much for him either. I wonder why they were so eager to cut ties with him? They weren't exactly selling high, considering the return they got.
