"Experts" are wrong a lot of the time.

I’d generally agree except when there is a consensus. The only person in the entire world that thinks Jerry has done a good job at either of his GM jobs is Jerry himself.

I could be completely wrong but I cannot see Jerry parting with Haniger. He is still controllable and is literally and Marco are the only imaginable thing he can say when Stanton or any of the owner minority owners talks to him.

Call it a gut feeling, but I don't think Haniger has peaked yet. If he stays healthy, I can see him being even better at the plate in 2019.

Of course they are, but the eye test is pretty bad, we just gave up a talented 2 time all star short stop and didn't get any prospects in return... We better hope like heck Crawford pans out, because we got no other prospects in this deal and gave away a couple decent pitchers....

Crawford won't pan out. He was given every chance by the Phils and he couldn't hack it at the MLB level. He couldn't hack it at the AAA level which is more concerning. M's look horrible in this trade and worse could have have Sixto Sanchez if Dip didn't jump on the Mets trade.

Personally he’s not a guy I’d like them to get rid of. Especially since it doesn’t look like Jerry is going anywhere they are eventually going to need a face for the organization and a leader whether it be vocal or just a physical leader. You can acquire a shit load of young players but in every case in baseball or even sports history the young core group needs an established veteran to show them the ropes.

From everything I have read on Crawford is he is a much athletic Dustin Ackley in terms of prospect vs MLB ability. A can’t miss prospect everyone touted but can’t adjust to the MLB. Maybe he is young enough a change of scenery, especially one where there is zero expectations can’t hurt. The M’s have had 4 top 10 prospects in the past 9 years and 3 were shoved into “playoff expectations positions” in Smoak, Ackley and Zunino, the other just got hurt in Hultzen. Adam Jones was really the only other top guy since Felix and the Mariners jerked him around so much he couldn’t catch a fly ball in the outfield in his stint before the trade.

Every GM makes mistakes, but he was able to take a Jack Z team and make them an 89 win team within a couple of years. If that’s not a good turd polisher I don’t know what is. Then he immediately recognized what his 89 win team was and knew that it was all smoke and mirrors now everyone is getting sent packing. Jack Z would be doing everything he could to sign a bad free agent and hope the 89 win team could be built upon. The guy is doing the right thing and has a game plan, I’m stoked for the direction he has us and cross my fingers these prospects pan out.

Maybe it's better to hang onto Seager and Gordon, and hope they can get hot enough next season so Haniger and Gonzales won't lose any trade value being part of a package with those guys.

MLBPA Don't want M's to rebuild.

What the actual fuck... can this team do anything without drawing headlines?
Overall, this is is stupid... the the MLBPA is more concern about attendance than being competitive.

Rebuilding teams, attendance has MLBPA worried

Because teams make less money and pay less to players, and tanking teams don’t pay veteran FAs.

Well apparently the MLBPA wasn't looking at attendance when these "vet's" were here.....
Im sure the numbers will be there when the Yanks, Soxs, and Jays hit town. Their fans fill the place...

Ooo, MLBPA your concern about attendance because teams are not competitive, well I have a solution for you....

Definitely agree that a lottery should be implemented for the draft.

Zero chance the MLBPA or the owners would ever agree to a hard cap. As well as it doesn’t really solve the main issue that the MLBPA has and that is people in front office’s aren’t as dumb as the past have been with handing out ridiculous amounts of long term contracts.

I completely disagree with crediting Jerry with anything or giving him props for this past year as it was some kind of success. There were 6 teams in the AL who weren’t tanking it and Jerry’s squad got past by 2 that were tanking it. Zero credit for finishing 3rd in a marathon when the other competitors walk the whole time.

Yeah its not gonna be much of a difference attendance wise. Even when they look competive in some Septembers they still dont draw that well, especially not during the week. Meanwhile Yankees, Red Sox, Jays, Bobbleheads are what will bring the most attendance.

I'm with @wazzu31 here. Not because I revel in bashing the Mariners but realistically this wasnt your average 89 win team. I'd argue they were a more balanced and more watchable product the prior year when they won 78 games. This team was more like 2009 team that won 85 games but weren't 85 win talent. Honestly there is zero evidence that Jerry is any better then Jack Z at this point. The difference is the front office is actually allowing Jerry to rebuild where as I'm not sure Jack Z was afforded that same luxury.

I could semi understand Jack Z being a bad GM, because inexperience in the FO and all that. But Jerry is a seasoned front office guy and he came in with a plan and has scrapped his philosophy. I maybe overly critical of him because I flat out don’t like people like him. And I hate as a fan my favorite baseball team is being used as a lab rat for him.
