Yup. The Segura deal is awful, look like just wanting to get rid of him for anything.
However, if they can flip Santana, then you could potentially look at Segura for Crawford + 1 or 2 mid level.

Only thing is, if Dipoto was more patient, he could probably get this elsewhere besides the Phillies. :L

Trade would've made more sense if Philly took Seager.

Nicasio's deal is so short that the savings are minimal compared to eating a 2nd year of Santana.

Letting Diaz go for what we got is a joke. Diaz was the best chip Dip had in his pocket. As far as I am concerned he's doing a half assed job and If he doesn't dump Seager with his overblown $ contract I will keep thinking this organization (and this GM along with his buddy Scotty) will continue to be one of the bigger jokes of the MLB. Dip should get out of baseball, take Servais with him and head down to Vegas or Reno and manage one of the casinos. :D

Unfortunately I think it came down to the M's not willing to pocket 60mil to get McNeil... he was included in the initial trade proposal and when the M's wanted to send 20mil instead of 60mil, they got Bautista instead.

This is the most frustrating part of that deal and I believe ownership had a hand in not wanting to send 60mil.

Jerry knows his way of baseball but doesn’t know how to GM. The owners don’t care about baseball as they are allowing Jerry to keep making trade after trade that A. Is getting laughed B. Too early in the off-season to purge your roster. Zunino ok, makes sense. But Segura, Colome and Diaz he should’ve waited until the winter meetings to at least see their market. He is a Mickey Mouse GM and is making this organization even more of a joke than it has been.

It's so sad man, M's fans deserve better.... Why can't the @#$^@ing ownership group hire real baseball guy's that know talent ? We're getting rapped by the media for the Segura trade, experts are saying the M's decision is baffling...

"Experts" are wrong a lot of the time.

Of course they are, but the eye test is pretty bad, we just gave up a talented 2 time all star short stop and didn't get any prospects in return... We better hope like heck Crawford pans out, because we got no other prospects in this deal and gave away a couple decent pitchers....

McNeil is a 27 year old rookie.

He could be nice, but chances are just as great he’s nothing more than a flash in the pan.

I disagree. You got a pretty good return. Klenek is a very high ceiling prospect and Dunn has some upside.

It’s very comparable to the Andrew Miller deal imo.

I have a really bad feeling this will be the case.

Even the more positive evaluations of Crawford don't exactly excite me.

good call...so let it be written........so watch it be done........lol

I agree, but with the eye test, what's your feeling... Lot's of baseball people are baffled...

Honestly, I see an All-Star SS with a hefty salary who was a cancer in the locker room and holds all the cards with a no-trade clause in his contract. It's easy for all of us to Monday morning quarterback this trade and assume there was more to be had, but at the end of the day it's all about unloading a contract that does damage in 2021 if he's still in a Mariners uniform. I truly feel that no matter the deal in any trade I will always feel like we could have gotten more, but nine times out of ten we probably get what we were supposed to with most trades.

I may be on an island here, but my focus as a fan is 2021 period. If we fall short on a prospect package here and there it really doesn't bother me to be honest, the fact that we have a clear plan is what has me excited for the next couple of years. The fact that by 2021 there will hardly be any contracts hitting the cap, even if a prospect or two fall flat any new GM that would come in at that point gets to come in with a clean slate because of what JeDi is doing at the moment. He walked into a dumpster fire following Jack Z, either we will be good in 2021 or it'll be a clean slate for the next regime. I like what I see so far.

Exactly.

You don't pay $60 million for a 27 year old rookie when you're three years out at a minimum in a rebuild.

And I think he would've only been protected through 2020...

If you read the latest report on Seager in MLBTR, then you know that appears we are stuck with him. About all we can hope for is that his sense of pride is violated and he goes on a "Fuck you" mission to prove his worth. I'm not holding my breath.
