Starr is the only quarterback in NFL history to lead a team to three consecutive league championships (196567). Starr and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady are tied for total NFL championships, at five each. Starr led his team to victories in the first two Super Bowls: I and II.

The context was and remains the minimum level of production to get into the HOF at the QB position. My post was in response to a suggestion that we need to change the requirements from earlier period. I was pointing out that requirements have already evolved and continue to evolve.
I mentioned Stabler and Starr, but I can make a sizable list of QBs now in the HOF whose numbers would not get them in today.

Well I disagree that Ryan even gets a fantasy thought of getting in at this point....When a #1 over all qb goes like 9-10 yrs without a playoff win and finally gets to a SB and drops a 20+ point lead in the 4th qtr with no answer, no one in the HOF is thinking of him.....
Flacco won more games his first 5 yrs as a rookie starter than anyone but Brady, double digit post wins, a SB win with MVP honors, all while matching Montana's playoff record of 11 Tds, 0 Int's during that run...
He will need another SB win or record breaking yr of some sort to get a later ballot IMO....
Ryan just ain't done enough with 11 yrs in the league....

Do I have to list the HOF QBs who never won a title ? start with Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton.
If Ryan's stats are good enough, he'll get in.

I watched those guys play, trust me the game was way different back then, and Fran went to like 4 SB's, while Dan was a consistent winner and record setter his whole career....
Look at Ben of todays NFL, been to 4 SB's, won 2, and kept a winning record over his career, he's going in....Stats alone won't do it because there are too many intangibles involved in the rules restricting the game now a days.....Flags kill games and would be records, and you have to consider the players around you that dictate what you can and can't do each game....No run game, lots of passing yards, no playmaker wr's, lots of run yards etc......
Stats do not tell the whole story, ever imo.....

Warren Moon
Jim Kelley
Dan Fouts
Y A Tittle

In the end the numbers will speak for themselves and will dictate whether he gets in or not.
Right now given his current stats and age, I think he has an excellent shot.

No, I'm answering those who say eras produce different standards, a QB could get in with 196 td passes and 219 ints when Stabler was enshrined, those numbers wouldn't cut it today. Ryan will likely have over 400 td passes and less than half as many ints when he's finished.

Let me project a bit.
If Ryan throws an average of 25 tds per season till he's 38 years old he'll have around 470 td passes. That would put him 5th all time as of today and Rivers is the only QB in position to possibly join that group by the time Ryan reaches 38. So it's reasonable to project him as the 6th leading QB in history then, and he could well play till he's 40.

I'm far from young, experience tells me 470 td passes will likely be enough to make The HOF when Ryan's time comes.
Trust me, I was surprised when I started to see these projections coming together, he reached 40,000 yards passing in the fewest games in history by the way.

25 tds a year is not a hof'er sorry its just longevity.......thats mediocrity in todays nfl..
