Statistically, if you put Eli and Ben in the HoF, you have to put Rivers in as well. However, him not winning a Super Bowl, in my opinion, hurts him. He's got about the same passing yardage, he's been to more pro bowls than Ben and Eli, he's more accurate then Ben and Eli, he's got less INTs and more TDs than Ben and Eli. The only real difference are the Super Bowls.

So according to this logic Dan Marino should not be in the HOF.

I never said Rivers should not be in the HOF because he hasn't won a Super Bowl.

Dan was one of the 3 best of his playing days. That gets him in easily despite not having a SB win.
Rivers was not considered even top 5 most (if not all) the years he played.

He has the numbers and 7 pro bowl appearances, so that = yes.

Vinny Testaverde?

His numbers aren't nearly as impressive as Rivers. He has a lifetime passer rating of 75. That hasn't been respectable since the 70s.

His numbers are garbage given the subject matter. I only responded to rmilia1 when he suggested that anyone with a bunch of top 10 stats at the time when he's eligible for the HOF, should be a member....regardless of what era. Vinny Testaverde was Top 10 in yards, TD's and probably in completions and attempts....and has no business being in the Hall.

A really idiotic argument to make IMO.

There are more stats than those. Rivers is top 10 in nearly all of them including passer rating and YPA which are 2 of the most telling stats about how good a guy is

Yes....Rivers is top 10 in everything under the sun....and most every top 10 list in QB statistics are dominated by guys who are either still playing in the most pass-happy era in football history, or are recently retired. Being 'top 10' in stats at face value and being a HOF player given the entire spectrum of the NFL with its myriad of rule changes are two completely different things.

Yes. Teams last more now and guys play longer now. Neither of those impact passer rating or YPA though. Also to my earlier point, do you grade other offensive positions differently too ( since it's an offensive era ) or fo you only do that with QBS?

Example - do you think Larry Fitzherald is a lock Hall of Famer? Antonio Gates? If yes then why? They also benefit from the current rules and neither has ever won anything of note

51,000+ yds passing, a career 64% completion rate, 348 TDs and 167 INTs.

If you don't think he belongs in the HOF, you're daft.

if you are a QB that puts up huge career numbers, you will get in .... doesn't make it right but it's the way things are.

Why doesn't that make it right? What other credentials do you have to have and please don't say SB rings.

Agree... Eye test says yes for me.

Is he an all time elite in that top section of the hall? No. Not in the Brady, Manning, Marino, Montana type group.

But a HOFer yes. Besides the eye test, he's had some great seasons. Ones he led the league in yards, TD's, QB rating...

Has the volume, top 10 all time in yards and TD's. Has the efficiency, top 10 all time in QB rating and YPA (big one here).

Plays the most important position in the league in the biggest passing era. Yes numbers are higher now. It's also much more important to be able to throw well for volume and efficiency. They days of being able to win a SB with 7 pass attempts are gone.

His team record is arguably his weak spot and he's 13th all time in wins. He's already ahead of Fouts and Bradshaw on game winning drives. His next one ties Montana and Kelly.

He's pretty close but the other two guys in his class both have two rings. Rivers has no postseason success on his resume. That hurts.
