Not enough playoff success - where Hall of Fame quarterbacks earn their stripes. He's only been to the playoffs five times in his career and to the conference championship once.

If he shows he's the difference maker in the playoffs this year or next and gets them to at least a hotly contested AFC Championship game, he's got a good shot.

Statistically, if you put Eli and Ben in the HoF, you have to put Rivers in as well. However, him not winning a Super Bowl, in my opinion, hurts him. He's got about the same passing yardage, he's been to more pro bowls than Ben and Eli, he's more accurate then Ben and Eli, he's got less INTs and more TDs than Ben and Eli. The only real difference are the Super Bowls.

This is why I voted "has work to do," and that work is: to just win a SB. No way they could keep him out after that.

I don't think so. I like Rivers a lot as a player, but I think given his lack of 'rings' and such, he would've needed some sort of historical impact like Dan Fouts and Air Coryell - just ripping the shit outta most every defense they faced. That's still arguably the greatest offense in NFL history.

It's never made sense to me that we devalue QB numbers now because " it's a pass first league and the rules are set up to help the offense " but we dont do the same with receivers or TEs.

"Tony Gonzalez isn't a Hall of Famer because his stats are a product of the rules now!!!"

See how stupid that sounds??

If a guy who will be in the Top 10 of nearly every passing category possible by the time hes eligible isn't a Hall of Famer then just get rid of the Hall

Vinny was too 10 in 2 categories when. His time came. Yards and TDs. Rivers will be top 5 likely in both those and top 10 in passer rating yards per game, yards per attempt and others. Its not really the same. That said I'd have had no issue with Vinny getting in. His passer rating, YPG and YPA were better than many guys currently in the Hall

Phil Rivers forgot to take advantage of the hot chicks

If you let Rivers in then we're going to see a flood of QBs come in this generation.

And there lies the problem

The game is silly now, Matt Stafford is gonna obliterate the career numbers of many Hall of Famers

All I know is that if Matt Ryan makes it into the HoF then you might as well call the whole thing off.

Yeah that's where the line is drawn, if Ryan gets in, Dan Mcguire still has hope

I don't know. I'd still draw the line before Rivers. Right now I think he is at 'Chargers should retire his jersey' and not 'NFL should put him in HOF'

Rivers is in year 2 or 3 of a second stint of a team that could compete for a title. I think without a MVP like performance this season and/or a deep playoff run then he shouldn't even be in consideration.
