An NFL Player only has to play 6 games (or be on the active roster) in order to acrue credit for a full season. Bell could set 10 games and get full credit.
He could if he wants to lose 4.5 million dollars .

I gotta be honest... if Bell is thinking this it’s dumb. He is getting a lot of money to play this season. He’s on a good team with a legit shot at the SB. If he’s worried about getting hurt that’s what insurance policies are for. I think he hurts his value by sitting out most of the year.

Just my opinion.

Hurts his wallet, too. Over 800k per game

It would be more than $4.5 mil. If he played only enough games to get credit for a season (6 games) he would lose almost $9 mil.

This is an expensive game of chicken both sides are playing. Le'Veon Bell knows that he is not getting franchised next year and that the Steelers have zero intentions of signing him to a long term deal. He also knows they are going to try to run him into the ground as well. Last year he led the league in carries with 321. The #2 back in carries had 287. Knowing that he is not getting a long term this season he could very well be doing this to limit the number of carries and hits he endures this season.

He had a total of 406 touches (85 receptions - 107 targets) last year

I dont think so. Like someone else pointed out. Steelers has a ton of weapons, & adequate RBs to play the spot who also catch. dont think it is gonna be horrible to get Juju & other receivers into the mix more. In fact it very well could help the team moving the ball around more. Now with that said. I think the Steelers are only gonna be as good as Big Ben is, but that is more on Ben than not having Bell. Ben has plenty of guys that can catch the ball on that team, & as I was saying I think the running game will do fine.

The Steelers defense is below average IMO, and the Steelers need to play ball control to keep that defense from being exposed. Not grind it out running, but modern ball control. Bell has been an enormous part of that offense, much larger than someone like Conner can take over by himself. If they are forced to shift to more passing, that will expose the defense IMO.

Interested to see what happens. Bell could sit out the first few games and if Conner doesn't perform Bell will get his deal but what if Conner lights shit up? It's not like Bell massively outperformed Pitts backups the last few years. Maybe the Steelers simply think they're stacked enough on offense that any halfway decent back will put up good numbers in their system

As general info over the last 3 years the backup RB in Pitysburgh has had 330 carries for 1400 yards and caught 60 passes for 600 yards playing roughly the equivalent of a 16 game season . Not really dissimilar from Bell. Maybe they just dont think its Bell that makes himself great, maybe they think its everything around him?

Bell will report on Friday or Saturday. Because those are the last few days that he can still collect his weekly paycheck before the Steelers file him as an exemption. He'll sit week 1 but still get his paycheck.

Reports are bel is sitting out till week 10
Lots of reports flying around today. My bet is he reports Friday or Saturday. 9-10 weeks? There's no fuckin way he gives up over half of his franchise tag just to sit out that long. He loses $853k per week that he doesn't show up.

The Steelers offered to reset the market for a guy who's twice screwed them over by getting suspended and he couldn't even tell them when he plans to report.

But tell me more about how he won't mail it in when he is paid.

The offense didnt miss much of a beat in 2015 and 2016 when DeAngelo Williams started. I'm excited to see what James Conner can do as the starter.

I love the kid. I hope he goes off and Bell fucks off. No one deserves success more than Conner
